Eddie and his crew arrived at 745am to start the job and was already digging by 8am. My repairs included three cracks in the foundation, crack by the main sewer drain, crack by main water line, and crack by one of the window wells. Each was dug by 10am and I took pictures of before and after. They laid down tarp to pile the dirt on and hand dug the entire job. Cracks were repaired with foundation repair cement, covered with tar and then the voltex (http://buildingmaterials.cetco.com/LeftSideNavigation/PRODUCTS/WaterproofingProducts/Voltexsupregsup/tabid/1574/Default.aspx) lining. If it were not for the thunderstorm, they would have completed the job by 12pm but they eventually finished around 2pm. They also installed a french drain in three of my window wells so they will not fill up with water and flood the basement from the windows. They cleaned up my fence, siding and all areas that they worked on. Only time will tell if they have resolved the water leaking problem, but eddie has a warranty and will come back if there are any problems. I highly recommend eddie for any foundation repair job as he does what he says and will only do what is needed and never sell you anything that you do not need. His values are that of "i would do only what I would do for my own house" and we need more contractors and home repair guys like eddie's team. Thanks again for the great work.

I had a contractor back out of our waterproofing job at the last minute due to health issues.  Our access was through a neighboring yard, so time was of the essence.  E&M came to the rescue in a major way, saving many thousands of dollars and weeks of time, compared to the original contractor's estimate.  They came for a quote on the work within a couple of days, and had the job completed in less than a day.  Professional and punctual in a way I've rarely experienced with contractors before.  Just had a major rainfall yesterday, and where we normally would have had at least some moisture with that level of rain in the past, our basement remained bone dry.  Eddie, the owner, came to oversee the job for the first few hours, and he walked me through every step of the process.  He's been doing this a LONG time, and the guys who work for him have years, if not decades, of experience with him at the same company, which really says something.  They were like a well-oiled machine, and watching them work was fascinating.  Overall, the experience far surpassed anything I could have hoped for.  If you have a leaky basement, call E&M.  They're extraordinary.

I used the services of E & M Waterproofing Inc for basement waterproofing. I fell that the price was legitimate. It wasn't cheap but I was comfortable with the price. E & M Waterproofing Inc’s work, the professionalism, the quality, the guy was the best. A lot of people have come in and E & M Waterproofing Inc was the best. He knew exactly what I needed, efficient and professional.

They were very good and professional. They had to remove a board on our deck, and they were careful about moving them and replacing them with no damage and we appreciated that.

No work done. No estimate given.
Response from E & M Waterproofing Inc

"I do recall our conversation, you explained to me ur garage was damp and had a smell but no pooling of water. I recommended to get a dehumidifier to control the problem. If you are looking for a costly French drain installation I'm sure another company here on the island would be happy to install it for you. That is not the answer.I stand by my recommendation. I am very, very happy with the work and professionalism of Eddie and his crew.  They came when they said they would come, they did what they said they would do, and they cleaned up afterwards.Eddie was easy to reach and to communicate with.
At first I had asked Eddie for his take on our water leak and mold problem.  I had been receiving conflicting reports on the severity of each problem, from different subcontractors.  Eddie said that neither the water leak nor the mold problem were severe.   Eddie explained that the traditional approach of excavating outside and around the foundation walls, and waterproofing from the exterior would be risky, since buildings like mine risked having the foundation buckle if the dirt were all removed.  Nobody else had raised that concern, and I was happy to hear a cautious word on the matter.
Eddie said that the only way to go - even though it was a bit overkill - was to put in a French drain, and to cover the interior walls with waterproof mortar.  This work was a huge, huge job, I later saw.
For the few months after the work was done, I was wondering why we hadn't discussed possibly doing the job piece-meal, first covering the walls with mortar, and seeing how that worked out, and only doing the French Drain afterwards, if it were critical.  (Maybe there is an easy answer to this, but we hadn't discussed it, and I was wondering if we had done too big a project from the start.)  However, when Eddie came to check out some moist spots after a few months, he pointed out to me that the French Drain indeed had been functioning, pumping out water that leaked in.  So, my doubts about the necessity of such a big project were put to rest.
Several weeks after the work was done, I spoke to Eddie and asked him about spots in the mortar that seemed still moist.  He said that it takes a while to fully dry, but that he would come and have a look if it didn't dry out fully in a few weeks.I called him again several weeks later, to report that the moist spots remained, and he made an appointment to check it out.  When he came in and saw what I was describing, he said "I am not happy with the way this looks.  I will have my guys come and put a damp-proofing coat over it." And then he scheduled the work and it got done in a half of a day.  Same punctual schedule, same easy-to-reach manner, same clean-up afterwards.  Very professional.  Very pleasant to deal with.
In short, as a manager of two properties, I have two lists.  One list is of subcontractors that I dislike working with, and will try to avoid.  That list is quite long.  My short list is of subcontractors with whom I enjoy working.  E+M is near the top of my short list.  In fact, I just recently tried to educate an acquaintance of mine who has done work for me, but whose customer service is lousy, by comparing his service to that of Eddie at E+M!

We had worked unsuccessfully with three contractors before him, who either were unable or unwilling to do the work; one also gave us an estimate of $3500 to "explore the problem".

The challenge was in finding where the existing dry well was, which ultimately required camera work.  Eddie brought his crew out 3 different times to assess the situation and to do exploratory digging, without charging a dime.  And every time, they put the backyard back together again neatly and were careful not to track through the house.

Throughout this process, he was extremely professional and communicated well--e.g., always calling before hand to remind us he was coming; always calling afterward to see if we had any questions/concerns.  In our 3 years in our current home, we have had many issues and have worked with many different people.  Eddie from E&M gave us our best home improvement experience, by far.

After purchasing my house a decade ago I discovered water slowly seeping through basement foundation on heavy storms. I used a Dry/Wet Vacuum to manage the light flooding. After several major hurricane and tropical storms in 2011 the flooding was no longer bearable. I checked Angie's List and found E&M had a great track record with many positive reviews and reasonable cost estimates. In early January E&M President Ed arrived on time for our appointment. He reviewed the entire waterproofing process complete with his company's brochure. The price was right so we setup appointment in February.  I was very pleased with his team's spirit and work ethic.  They came to do a job and went right to it.  Other then provide a water hose for cement and a pitcher of cold drinking water, his team didn?t need much from me and completed the job in just less than 5 hours. Ed returned at job end to make sure I was satisfied with job.  I waited until heavy rainfall to write this review.  The rain poured down over the weekend and I'm happy to report my basement is completely dry.  Thanks Ed for the professional and phenomenal job by you and your team!

Eddie came sharp on time. He inspected the place and came up with the suggestion of what is supposed to be done to remedy the problem: water on the basement floor when it's really heavy raining, like the hurricane Irene or any other nasty lady of that sort. I did my home work in advance and understood well what he was explaining. There was no bull and no advertising type of talk. Straight to the point and you feel you are talking to the guy who has been doing this business for years, knows the trade not from just the books.
I spoke to a couple more companies and the E & M is the choice.

He called 3 days in advance and the day before. He came with his people at 7:30 AM. In 15 minutes they were already running the show. The team of 7 men worked like a good orchestra where every musician performs his part flawlessly and timely. I was trying to observe their operations and sometimes asked questions and gave suggestions. The owner and his guys patiently listened, agreed and immediately did what I was asking for, if it made sense.  Before starting the work they thoroughly covered all your stuff with plastic, taped the door to the house. Make sure all the vents and ducts are sealed. The dust will penetrate everywhere. This is an unavoidable evil of any renovation, and these guys do their best to keep it to the lowest possible level. After the job was done they
cleaned the place to the previous condition, checked the pump and Eddie asked to call him any time for any questions or problems. They were done by 4 PM.

I think this is the company you have always been looking for: small, the owner personally involved in all the details of the particular job, he has permanent employees working with him and having experience that grows year after year.  I am not an American born person and have been living in this blessed country for 21 year by now. I can tell you this blessing came not from God but from the people like Eddie, not from huge corporations run by the crooks and the crooked government but from small business. So, if I need, I will hire Eddie again and will vote for a republican for my president.

I saw E&M waterproofing on Angie's list. All of the reviews were positive so I decided to call them. I had spoken to a number of other companies.  Eddie the owner met me and told me things about the basement that the other companies did not.  They were the least expensive.  The crew came in and in one day completed the job.  They were quick and clean.  They did not leave any garbage and were responsive and friendly.  The guys did a great job and I would recommend them highly.  I probably won't know if it fixed my problem until we have another major storm but i am confident that it will work.

Our experience with this company was wonderful!  The owner kept his word from the first phone call to the final payment.  The price was right and the quality of work was excellent.  I would use them again if I had another problem in another area of the basement.  In today's world finding a company you can trust is difficult...we found one!

Ed was a professional to work with.  He made an appointment but could not keep the time BUT was considerate in giving me significant advance notice to re-schedule.  When he arrived he was forthright and honest, advising me that I didn't need that level work but recommended pointing of my bricks to prevent water in my basement.  He is an honest businessman and didn't try to sell me an expensive job that I didn't need.

Have since used another company to handle my waterproofing needs.
Response from E & M Waterproofing Inc

"I would like to thank you for using my company back in 2009. I'm glad the area we repaired is still dry. At one point I did recommend trying the simple things first as an attempt to save you money and from having to hire my company again. I am sorry that this did not work for you after the hurricane. Also, If I had been short with you on the phone because of the overwhelming amount of calls we had received after the storm, I am sorry you took this as being nasty. All the best, Ed Mihelic Owner, E&M Waterproofing"

The crew arrived at 8 am and was finished before 3pm.  7 men worked very quickly and efficiently. They left my basement in the same condition they found it.  Their masonry work is very professional.  Eddie, the owner, checked in periodically and insisted I call him with any questions or concerns.  I initially requested several estimates from companies that I had already researched and had good reviews. E & M had the lowest quote.  I have no complaints and would highly recommend this company.

They had to come back a couple of times after the job because I still had the water problem. They were quite good and took care of the problem. I haven't had any water damage since then. The owner was very responsive and he came back numerous times. The workers were excellent and very knowledgeable, and they worked fast. They did a very big job for me and the price was excellent. They had given me a guarantee and I had to call them back a couple of times, and they actually did more work for me for free since they guaranteed their work. I was very happy because I am selling my house and I want the basement to stay dry for the new owner. They were very good and I was very happy with them.

  • Arrived exactly on time
  • Re-checked the work order & made measurements
  • Team divided work and started digging in 5 spots around house
  • Tarps were laid out for all the dirt being dug up
  • Very careful around plants (only lost a little pachysandra)
  • Worked quickly and finished by noon
  • Patched all spots
  • installed window well
  • Put all dirt & plants back as best they could... hard to tell that some spots were even disturbed.
I had to wait 3 months to write this because we didn't get the heavy rain that would cause my basement to leak.   But in early August we got 7" in 36 hours and later in month Hurricane Irene hit (3.5" rain).... Not a drop of water in my basement!  Good work!  Heartily recommend them.

Ed, the "E" in E & M came over and did the inspection.  Unlike the 2 other foundation/leak repairers who gave me estimates whose costs were quite high because they said the work was critical, Ed explained that the cracks were merely settling cracks and all but one MIGHT need repair in the future.  Ed said he would do the work now, if I really wanted it, but it was not necessary.  I elected not to do the work now, but Ed gave me a very fair price estimate that he would stand by if I called him in the future.  Ed gives a 10 yr guarantee on his work and it is transferrable to new owners.
Also, when I made my initial call the E & M, it was prompty returned and they arranged an appointment for the very next day ; Ed showed up at the scheduled time.

E &M provided me with a simple and cost effective solution to a nagging problem.  Work was originally scheduled for 2 weeks out but  was improved by one week due to a late cancellation.

Today, in this blistering heat, his staff arrived promptly and completed the work in a professional manner.  Eddie ( owner of E&M) communicated with me throughout the process.

From my experience, you can  why E&M is rated so high by Angies List Users.  Their work and professionalism are deserving of high praise.

Sorry I don't have more to report, but I didn't have the work done by E&M. I met the owner, and he was on time very professional. I went with another company based on the price, but I would consider using this company in the future. I've recommended E&M to friends and family, and I know a close friend used them last summer to fix leaks in foundation walls and was pleased with the experience.
