We got three bids and Reliable was the least expensive by about half. We were admittedly concerned about the price difference and began negotiating with the other companies and they questioned the accuracy of Reliable's quote. As it turned the closing date for our sale and new purchase drove the moving date and the other two companies could not accommodate a last minute change. Reliable was flexible and actually arranged for a 6 man team to move us on a Sunday. Unfortunately, we had to pack ourselves due to the timing, but Reliable provide all the boxes and supplies at a reasonable rate. We were skeptical about their ability to move us in a single day as the other movers said a day to load and a day to move and unload. They started at 9 AM and had us moved and unloaded by 4:00. They estimated the price at $2700 and it ended up being $2900 due to the need to use part of a 2nd truck, but this was all laid out clearly in their pricing policy... so it was no surprise.

Awesomely! 4 men arrived a half hour early (called first), and had the apartment emptied in under 45 min, stairs and all. Similarly moved everything into destination apartment in record time. They were very professional, took great care of my possessions, and did a great job! Would highly recommend them and will definitely use again when I need to move.
Description of Work: Contents of studio apartment (3rd floor) moved to a 1 bedroom apartment across town (2nd floor). Furniture (bed, futon, kitchen table & chairs, dressers, bookcase and modular pieces), 20 boxes plus miscellaneous items like microwave oven, plant stand.

WARNING! All walk through conversations will be recorded without your knowledge and thrown back in your face when you try to make a claim. WARNING! If you love your stuff, use someone else. Found them on Angies List, very responsive, personable and accomodating. Came quickly to give an estimate on the walkthrough. I was very specific in my first contact that more than half the furniture was already disassembled and in storage but it would all have to be put back together on the other side. Apparently this requirement never made it to the team who showed up onsite because they refused. I never signed a contract with them. My error for not insisting/reminding them (why should I have to?) but I had a lot going on with the death of my father and the settling of his estate. I was packing and emptying his house 5 hours away at the same time this move was going on. We were absolutely not ready when the movers arrived. We didn't think it was a big deal because 75% of the contents was in the basement and the garage and we figured they could pack that while we finished the clothes and the kitchen. But No! The team INSISTED on starting in the bedrooms that were not packed because they "always start in the bedrooms". I tried to explain that there were 2 more bedrooms of stuff in the basement but they refused. It all went downhill from there. They needed more trucks than they thought (so I guess the walkthrough wasn't as comprehensive as it should have been). They packed 3 trucks very quickly and left without asking anyone if they were done. They left an entire closet worth of stuff and some outdoor items. They also left Vitamin water bottles EVERYWHERE! They littered all over the place. I watched them load my very expensive desk as if it was a pillow. They did not wrap it and much of the other furniture. It looked like like wrapped the crappy furniture and not the expensive stuff! I was not able to meet them at the house so my husband had to dictate where everything was supposed to go. Things like my daughters clothes would up in the basement while boxes marked TOOLS wound up in the master bathroom. The unloading was atrocious. they basically dumped and ran. I collect Disney snowglobes. Of course my favorite one, a discontinued Bambi globe was broken and leaking. They also broke a chess table and my Keurig, at least we THOUGHT that is all that they broke. It was what we discovered on that day. Its been a month, I do not have my chess table back, they wont pay for the Keurig cause it wasnt properly packed (right, kitchen item I wasnt ready for them to take, remember?) and although they did offer to replace the snowglobe, they weren't able to find it (discontinued). They did offer to pay for it to be shipped to Denver where a guy could repair it but I left them off the hook for that. It would cost a ton of money to ship it and repair it. There are 3 snowglobes that got broken in this move total and we are just going to repair them all at the same time. Lets talk more furniture, they removed ALL the molding from my bookcases and television armoire and never put it back. They threw it all in an open topped box and left it in my garage. In the middle of the first night, the King size master bed FELL APART while we were sleeping in it. They didnt secure the slats underneath nor did they properly screw in the pegs that prevent the bed from falling down. 2 nights later they same thing happened to my daughters bed but this was worse. When my husband tried to repair it, he noticed that a screw was broken off inside the bedframe. THis means they must have gotten frustrated in the disassemble and just ripped the foot from the frame. We had moved into this condo 5 months prior and it wasnt that way so we KNOW it was them. My husband had to take the whole bed apart in order to fix it and its still not 100%. It squeaks on that side which it never did before. My issue is that attitude of the company since this happened. Rather than being apologetic, all I keep getting is rude emails that basically say "well you packed it not us so we aren't responsible". Hello! Packing is only half of it. If a box says FRAGILE, then it should be handled as such. Disney managed to ship my snowglobes to me intact and if I am using the same packing material that they originally arrived in, then it must be how it was handled and what was dumped on top of it that shouldn't have been! Also, I think its incredibly rude to insert excerpts from a recorded conversation (recorded without your knowledge) into an email in an attempt to prove your point. Here is a line from her last email to me "And our voice recording, I along with Mike offered you packing not once, not twice, but three times. " As if I had forgotten that I didn't pay them to pack my stuff! I think these guys may be great at moving dormrooms but certainly not a family home with irreplaceable treasures!
Description of Work: Showed up, loaded contents a 2br condo that contained contents of a 3000 sq ft home. Drove it an hour away, unpacked it but they only set up half the furniture.

Response from RELIABLE MOVERS
I tried desperately to work with this customer to no avail. During our initial walk through estimate she spent about 70 percent of the time complaining about her mover from five months prior when she moved from Albany. The house was in disarray with several rooms jammed packed with boxes, opened spilled boxes. I offered packing three times as I seen she was overwhelmed and she state no she can handle it. She rescheduled her move because she was not ready to which she was not charged. She received our moving guidelines which clearly states all moving boxes are to be taped top and bottom. On the day of her move my main employee called me to tell me she was not packed at all. Clearly violating our moving guidelines. She then asked my employee "Gee is anyone ever ready for there move?" to which he responded "Yes, all the time" She was throwing items in boxes in the kitchen. We always start with the bedrooms first, as we have full overhead. This is a clean designated space for mattresses only. Ms. [Member Name Removed] thought she could pack the kitchen and pack the bedrooms at the same time. Which is impossible. Her coffee maker was being carried out and fell completely through the box. Which again violates our moving guidelines, boxes are to be taped top and bottom. We are not responsible for packing of the customer unless the box is crushed or torn open. This again is in our moving guidelines. Her snow globe was broken but she packed it. I offered to have it repaired to which she declined. Even though I did not have to. As for her beds falling apart, I do not believe this. There is one way to put a bed together. Screws to the head board and foot board using the rails. I did not hear about this till four days later. After I told her I was not responsible for her packing. The customer also fails to say that she "forgot her checkbook" and my guys spent one hour waiting for her to return with it. In the mean time they assisted her husband with assembling beds that were already disassembled prior to the guys coming for the move. As listed in our moving guidelines we do not reassemble beds unless the guys have taken them apart themselves. Because they would have prior knowledge of where the screws are, if they are stripped, where the screws go etc. Her husband also assisted during this process, so she is blaming us for beds falling apart? The customer stated during one of her rants that she never received her moving guidelines and moving contract. I forwarded her contract with the moving guidelines which was sent two weeks prior to her move along with her responses of "Where do I sign!". "Also, please stop referring to moving guidelines. I never saw any guidelines or any contract from your company. So you are trying to use documentation to back up what you will cover and what you won't but I never saw or signed anything so its moot. None of it would hold up in a court of law."--- excerpt from one of her emails. She denied this several times and then noted to her each email she was sending me was a re: from the first initial email I sent with contract. [Member Name Removed] <> 05/05/15 at 8:49 AM To Reliable Movers Message body We would be thrilled to hire you guys! thanks. Do you need this printed and signed , (like with a pen)? or does this email with initials suffice? Date: Tue, 5 May 2015 01:52:19 +0000 From: [email protected] To: g Subject: moving guidelines and moving estimate Hello, below is a copy of your estimate. Your price is all inclusive. Truck, labor, fuel, break down and set up of your furniture, padding/shrink wrapping, and insurance. If your interested in booking let me know as soon as possible. Thanks Jen Reliable Movers Thanks Jen Reliable Movers 315-252-9214 Her checker board was damaged to which I did have repaired and brought to her 3 weeks later. I can only push the furniture repair person so hard. Ms. [Member Name Removed] then started complaining on how much damage she had. I asked her several times to please list the items and send photos. Ms. [Member Name Removed] on her walk through estimate had forgotten she gave me a very detailed inventory with prior damages marked from her Albany mover. I stated I would compare "the pieces damaged by us" to the other movers inventory and of course she never sent pictures nor listed any furniture. I did speak to her Albany mover and he had more than a few things to say. With every move we try are hardest and give 100 percent. My guys have been employed with me 10 years plus. I take these men twice a year to Cancun and Florida. I treat these men well because they will treat are customers well. Out of 100 moves your bound to get that one customer that has a lot going on in their life and you just cannot make happy. Date: Tue, 5 May 2015 01:52:19 +0000 From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: moving guidelines and moving estimate Hello, below is a copy of your estimate. Your price is all inclusive. Truck, labor, fuel, break down and set up of your furniture, padding/shrink wrapping, and insurance. If your interested in booking let me know as soon as possible. Thanks Jen Reliable Movers Thanks Jen Reliable Movers 315-252-9214 Please note all customers with estimates for 500.00 or less customers are to pay cash effective 10-1-12. Due to reoccurring issues with several prior customers and insufficient fund checks we have had to change the policy of personal checks for this amount. We have also placed in service our new 28 foot truck which is 2 feet longer and 2 feet higher in ceiling height as our 26 foot truck. We have calculated the exact square footage of the 26 foot truck and marked the interior of the 28 foot truck for this square footage. If you should receive the 28 foot truck for your move, the pricing for the 26 foot truck is the same for 1/2 full, 3/4, or full as they are marked in the 28 foot truck. The picture attached shows the sizing difference. Moving Tips and Guidelines 1. All boxes must be closed and taped, and properly marked for each room. We can shrink wrap together your brooms, mops, rakes, and yard tools. When the men arrive and your items are not packed, they will not move them. They will not wait for packing to be completed. Please make sure everything is removed from the tops of tables, nightstands, dressers etc. 2. You may leave the drawers in the dressers, we will move them the way they are. Please do not put anything but clothing in your dressers. Nightstands and desk need to be emptied. There are gaps between the drawers which cause items to be dumped when the items are tilted. You may also leave all file in filing cabinets. 3. We will break down bedroom furniture and reassemble it. This season we have come across many customers moving from large apartments/homes into small apartments taking the same amount of furnishings. If you are boxed in the guys will not reassemble certain furniture because they cannot access it. This guideline applies to all NYC moves. 4. Wardrobe boxes may be purchased. If wardrobe boxes aren’t available you may also buy extra large boxes for wardrobes. Remove the hanging clothing 5-7 hangers at a time. Make one fold in the middle of the clothing and place in box. Do not over stuff box to prevent added wrinkles. Heavy duty garbage bags are sufficient for bedding. Wardrobe boxes do not come with the standard packing job. You must specifically ask for them. We use the large box system. 5. The customer is responsible for all snow removal and salt. Stairs and driveway must be cleared prior to the truck arriving. Overtime charges will apply if snow removal is not done prior to arriving at pick up or destination. If you need snow plowing the day of your move we can refer you to a insured plow service. Please call for information and pricing on this. 6. The customer is responsible to prepare for protection of flooring within the house. We recommend going to Lowe’s or Home Depot and buying Red Rosin Paper. It is located in the hardwood flooring section and usually runs about $15.00 for a large roll. The paper can be laid with masking tape throughout the walk area of the house for added protection of carpet and hardwood floor. If rosin paper is not available we will be able to use two or three moving pads to lay in the entrance of the home. Our employees cannot remove their shoes due to Workman’s Comp and safety issues. 7. We are not responsible for the customers packing of boxes unless the box is crushed, or torn open. Please carefully pack glass and label box FRAGILE. Bubbles are available through our company at a lower cost then most retail stores. 8. We will pad and shrink wrap large pictures and mirrors (over 2 feet long) free of charge, no more than 5 pictures/mirrors. You are responsible for packing lamp shades and bulbs. Lamp shades are very fragile, many customers opt to take lamps in their own car. We have plastic mattress covers for sale at 10.00 each. You must call or email me prior to your move if you need them, as the men do not carry these covers on the truck. 9. The customer is responsible for doing walk through of their home prior to the truck leaving to make sure everything has been loaded. When the truck arrives to be unloaded at the new home the customer should stand near the entrance to where the truck is being unloaded and tell each employee where each item is being placed within the house when the items are being carried in. The customer is also responsible for doing a walk through of the truck when the move is completed to ensure nothing has been left on the truck. 10. Payment is to be made cash, check, or money order on the day the move is completed. We ask that personal checks are from NY state banks only. There is a $30.00 charge for returned/canceled checks. 11. For the safety of your animals and our employees please cage or remove your animals from the move site. 12. The customer is responsible for disposal of shrink wrap used on the job. Because we are considered commercial, our dump runs to the landfill are high, to keep your cost down we ask you to dispose of this. 13. If your move was bid by truck size, this if for one trip only, unlimited hours and men. Additional trips carry an extra charge. Piano moving is NOT included in this price. All pianos have extra charges due to weight and man power involved. Please read your contract and make sure your piano is listed along with the charge on the bottom of the last page. 14. Only during certain moves will the head employee will ask for half down prior to loading the truck and the other half when the job is completed. This is at the discretion of Mike or Jen (owners) when this happens. All out of state moves operate like this. We have dealt with too many bounced checks. It is too difficult to chase down customers in the court system when they reside out of state. 15. If an itemized inventory and single price is listed on your contract versus based on truck size, the guys must follow this inventory. Your price will change if your inventory changes drastically. Single prices are given through walk through estimates or smaller shipments via phone. All phone conversations are recorded in ensure accuracy of inventory given by customers. 16. We have the right to substitute truck size. You may receive a larger or small truck. 1/2 of a 26 foot truck is the same cubic feet of our 15 foot truck. The 26 foot truck has higher ceilings and over head which accounts for the 2 less feet. 17. Over times charges will apply for assembly and dis-assembly of furniture and appliances that take more than 5 minutes per item. This includes removing of interior doors, refrigerator doors, two or more piece desks, over sized bed frames. Over times charges are in 15 minutes increments. Extra Charges Defined: During certain moves some customers will need extra items not mentioned move to certain areas. Example: At the destination there is a washer you want moved from the basement to the garage. Clean outs or removal of items for disposal. Set up or assembly of boxed furniture, play sets, etc. Or the customer would like an additional stop to pick up other furniture. This is considered an extra charge. BEFORE any extra charge is to occur please call and speak to Mike or Jen at 315-252-9214 or 315-863-5426. You are to only pay what your contract states unless the extra charge/extra labor is cleared by one of us or defined in the contract. You the customer WILL NOT ask any of my men to do extra work on the side not outlined in the contract for extra cash or a "bigger tip". Example: loading of another truck, moving another family member, moving or removing for disposal any item that is defined as an “extra charge”, set up or assembly of products. The customer can be fined up to $500.00 by Reliable Movers for hiring “side work” from my employees. My employees are insured by Reliable Movers LLC, any side work hired out still gives me liability towards my men, product, property, and workmanship. To protect my business and liability this rule remains intact up to six months from your move date. Excessive distance and stair carry charge: There will be a charge for excessive distance which is defined as the walking area to or from the home to the truck that is being loaded or unloaded. A stair carry charge will incur if you do not have stair carry listed on your contract. This does not apply for two [Member Name Removed] homes. Excessive distance is more than 50 feet. If you have excessive distance please make sure this is listed on your moving contract or you could be charged for this. Elevator delay due to residents or other movers using the same elevator. Multi level storage facilities --- for storage facilities that we are not able to back directly up to the door and unload. 18. Effective 6-27-13. We will no longer be hold liability for movement of granite. Granite is extremely delicate and needs to be crated prior to moving. We will move your granite piece(s) but will not cover any damages to it. Our men will cardboard, pad, and shrink wrap granite pieces and protect them to the best of their ability. Due to veins within the granite, it is not considered a stable piece thus subject to damage regardless of the handling procedures. Cold climate as well as humidity effect granite making it extremely fragile 19. We are not responsible for your purse, loose change, coins, jewelry, lap tops, valuables. Please take them with you. Please do not leave these items left in the open. You may pack them in boxes that are taped shut. 20. Payment for this out of state move is as follows. We do not accept checks for out of state moves. 1/2 balance of cash is due when the loading is completed. The remaining 1/2 balance is due prior to the truck being unloaded at the destination. 21. Over stuffing boxes. Since we base our prices on truck size, customer lately have been using extra large boxes and over stuffing them to avoid going into more space used within the truck. Some of these boxes are hitting 100lbs. When packing yourself, please use book boxes for books. They are a smaller carton. Please do not try to stuff your entire apartment into one box. There will be an added fee if this happens. The average home should use an assortment of boxes. Small, medium, and large. Totes are acceptable. Your entire book collection in one tote is unacceptable. 22. Moving large items- Some items such as your dressers, beds, or pianos will not fit into your new space because of hallway turns, stairs, or doorways. The guys will assess the situation and determine if the item will fit. The guys are trained to specifically deal with situations such as these. If they state the item will not fit they will not move it. And this is based on the space, if it may damage your walls/trim, or the piece being moved. Please trust their judgement. If tips are given please do not add this on your moving check. This causes tax issues for us.

From our first contact with Reliable they were very professional and responsive to our needs. On the day of our move they were able to show up earlier than scheduled which worked out great for us. They were very careful with all of our furniture and made sure nothing was damaged in the move. They were polite and professional and we would highly recommend them to anyone in need of help moving.

Movers completed the job in about two hours. They arrived on time and went right to work. The never took a break, and even declined offers of water. They wanted to get in and get out. I liked that about them. The movers were friendly and gentle on our stuff. One piece of furniture cracked, but that was because of degradation in the wood, not them. The movers were able to negotiate tight spaces in our 100-year-old home and took on logistical issues as challenges and not problems. It should have been a $500 move, but it's our fault for overestimating the size of the truck we'd need.

For the most part we were pleased with the company. They gave an estimate but did not do any follow up. We ended up choosing a different moving company. We were not displeased with their service, but were more impressed with another company. In the future I would probably call them again.

Thank you for your recent review. We will take into consideration your view on "follow up phones calls". We always tried to evade this in the hopes we do not appear too pushy or salesman like. My husband and I present ourselves on estimates in the most sincere and straight forward way in the hopes this would aid in getting the moving job. We are family owned and operated and want to keep our business very personable to our customers and employees

Jenn, our contact person at Reliable movers was very nice. However, they were in the middle of a move to Florida so she was not always quick to get back to me. They do an estimate by you submitting an estimate of the number of boxes you anticipate and an entire list of all furniture items to be moved. She was slow getting the final estimate back it me due ti being in Florida. It was 2 days before our scheduled move and I did not have the final contract. The crew arrive promptly at 9:00 as scheduled. The nice thing is that they shrink wrap most of your furniture making it easier to handle and so that drawers do not fall out. They started right away and moved quickly. They underestimated the size of the truck that they would need, so they had to make a second trip back with one of the trucks. As the day wore on, they were still moving quickly and damages began. They were pretty rough with our furniture and stacked very heavy boxes in light ones. I found boxes marked fragile at the bottom of piles after the move. As the days and weeks passed after they moved us, we noticed more and more small areas of damage. They also did not re-assemble our sleep by number correctly and if my husband had not checked and made them change it, they would have just left it. All in all they were rough with our furniture, VERY expensive and I would not use them again nor would I recommend them to friends.

Response from RELIABLE MOVERS
Hello member, I apologize for any inconvenience you have received due to your move. As stated we were completing 5 moves in Florida. I did go back on our emails and noted that I had spoke to you via email three times on 8-3 8-5 and 8-8 along with the four phones calls during this time to answer any questions you had. Your price was based on truck size used. Your initial quote from me was for one 26 foot truck and one 15 foot truck at 1800.00. Your ending price was 2000.00 as you did go over space used. Please note this is not an exact science. And your inventory had changed twice as I still have your emails. I try to estimate space to the best of my ability and years in the moving business. Its very rare some shipments will go over as yours did. Most of the time they are under the space I estimated. If there was damages I did not receive a call or email. I do not understand why you did not contact me immediately concerning this? I would have immediately come to your home and assessed the issues you had at hand. We are family owned and operated business and strive to give the best customer service possible. I would have repaired any issues at hand, and I also carry twice the limit of NYSDOT required insurance. I had sent two of my best employees both have 10 plus years in my business on your move. I find this distressing I received no emails or phone calls concerning your complaints that are posted. Being in business for 16 years I usually get a phone call the same day or emailed pictures within a week. Versus a bad review five months late to which I cannot rectify. Jennifer Reliable Movers

All three men were very nice. They communicated their duties and followed our directions. We were very impressed with how quick and precise they were in getting the stuff out of our rental and gently placing them on the truck so they wouldn't break. We got to our new home and they were there waiting for us. They asked where the items were to be placed. Offered to set up our bed and/or washer and dryer and placed all the containers in their correct rooms. We highly recommend this company to others and will use them again if we ever need moving service. They move not only locally but nationally we were told.I had no problems with the office. They were great with getting us a quote and setting up the time. The guys were supposed to arrive at 930am and they arrived right on time.
Description of Work: Moved from a 2bdrm apartment to new home with an estimated 1/2 truck. They moved us from the City of Syracuse to a small town just outside Syracuse. 3 men hauled all of our heavy furniture and stacked our bins to take from one location to another.

It went very well. They were very polite, hardworking and efficient. They got the job done. The communication from their home office to the movers themselves could be improved. The workers themselves were great; the communication from the home office was a little lacking.
Description of Work: We used Reliable Movers for moving services. They moved us from one town to the city.

They were excellent in all respects. They communicated their expectations and were very clear about the services they would provide and what we needed to do to be ready. They answered all my questions either by email or phone very promptly and so cheerfully and politely. They were a pleasure to work with even before the move and made me feel secure about how things would go. The two moves went seamlessly and they were again cheerful, polite, and hardworking, a delight. They were careful with all items and very responsive to our questions and decisions. I would certainly use them again and would recommend them to everyone for a fine moving experience.
Description of Work: Reliable Movers moved our things from a small house on one date and then from an apartment the next date to our new house. Both went to our new house about 1 mile away. They moved boxes, furniture, and took some things out to the street.
