WARNING! If you love your stuff, use someone else.
Found them on Angies List, very responsive, personable and accomodating. Came quickly to give an estimate on the walkthrough. I was very specific in my first contact that more than half the furniture was already disassembled and in storage but it would all have to be put back together on the other side. Apparently this requirement never made it to the team who showed up onsite because they refused.
I never signed a contract with them. My error for not insisting/reminding them (why should I have to?) but I had a lot going on with the death of my father and the settling of his estate. I was packing and emptying his house 5 hours away at the same time this move was going on.
We were absolutely not ready when the movers arrived. We didn't think it was a big deal because 75% of the contents was in the basement and the garage and we figured they could pack that while we finished the clothes and the kitchen. But No! The team INSISTED on starting in the bedrooms that were not packed because they "always start in the bedrooms". I tried to explain that there were 2 more bedrooms of stuff in the basement but they refused. It all went downhill from there.
They needed more trucks than they thought (so I guess the walkthrough wasn't as comprehensive as it should have been). They packed 3 trucks very quickly and left without asking anyone if they were done. They left an entire closet worth of stuff and some outdoor items. They also left Vitamin water bottles EVERYWHERE! They littered all over the place.
I watched them load my very expensive desk as if it was a pillow. They did not wrap it and much of the other furniture. It looked like like wrapped the crappy furniture and not the expensive stuff!
I was not able to meet them at the house so my husband had to dictate where everything was supposed to go. Things like my daughters clothes would up in the basement while boxes marked TOOLS wound up in the master bathroom. The unloading was atrocious. they basically dumped and ran.
I collect Disney snowglobes. Of course my favorite one, a discontinued Bambi globe was broken and leaking. They also broke a chess table and my Keurig, at least we THOUGHT that is all that they broke. It was what we discovered on that day.
Its been a month, I do not have my chess table back, they wont pay for the Keurig cause it wasnt properly packed (right, kitchen item I wasnt ready for them to take, remember?) and although they did offer to replace the snowglobe, they weren't able to find it (discontinued). They did offer to pay for it to be shipped to Denver where a guy could repair it but I left them off the hook for that. It would cost a ton of money to ship it and repair it. There are 3 snowglobes that got broken in this move total and we are just going to repair them all at the same time.
Lets talk more furniture, they removed ALL the molding from my bookcases and television armoire and never put it back. They threw it all in an open topped box and left it in my garage. In the middle of the first night, the King size master bed FELL APART while we were sleeping in it. They didnt secure the slats underneath nor did they properly screw in the pegs that prevent the bed from falling down. 2 nights later they same thing happened to my daughters bed but this was worse. When my husband tried to repair it, he noticed that a screw was broken off inside the bedframe. THis means they must have gotten frustrated in the disassemble and just ripped the foot from the frame. We had moved into this condo 5 months prior and it wasnt that way so we KNOW it was them. My husband had to take the whole bed apart in order to fix it and its still not 100%. It squeaks on that side which it never did before.
My issue is that attitude of the company since this happened. Rather than being apologetic, all I keep getting is rude emails that basically say "well you packed it not us so we aren't responsible". Hello! Packing is only half of it. If a box says FRAGILE, then it should be handled as such. Disney managed to ship my snowglobes to me intact and if I am using the same packing material that they originally arrived in, then it must be how it was handled and what was dumped on top of it that shouldn't have been!
Also, I think its incredibly rude to insert excerpts from a recorded conversation (recorded without your knowledge) into an email in an attempt to prove your point. Here is a line from her last email to me "And our voice recording, I along with Mike offered you packing not once, not twice, but three times. " As if I had forgotten that I didn't pay them to pack my stuff!
I think these guys may be great at moving dormrooms but certainly not a family home with irreplaceable treasures!
It should have been a $500 move, but it's our fault for overestimating the size of the truck we'd need.
"Thank you for your recent review. We will take into consideration your view on "follow up phones calls". We always tried to evade this in the hopes we do not appear too pushy or salesman like. My husband and I present ourselves on estimates in the most sincere and straight forward way in the hopes this would aid in getting the moving job. We are family owned and operated and want to keep our business very personable to our customers and employees"
"Hello member, I apologize for any inconvenience you have received due to your move. As stated we were completing 5 moves in Florida. I did go back on our emails and noted that I had spoke to you via email three times on 8-3 8-5 and 8-8 along with the four phones calls during this time to answer any questions you had. Your price was based on truck size used. Your initial quote from me was for one 26 foot truck and one 15 foot truck at 1800.00. Your ending price was 2000.00 as you did go over space used. Please note this is not an exact science. And your inventory had changed twice as I still have your emails. I try to estimate space to the best of my ability and years in the moving business. Its very rare some shipments will go over as yours did. Most of the time they are under the space I estimated. If there was damages I did not receive a call or email. I do not understand why you did not contact me immediately concerning this? I would have immediately come to your home and assessed the issues you had at hand. We are family owned and operated business and strive to give the best customer service possible. I would have repaired any issues at hand, and I also carry twice the limit of NYSDOT required insurance. I had sent two of my best employees both have 10 plus years in my business on your move. I find this distressing I received no emails or phone calls concerning your complaints that are posted. Being in business for 16 years I usually get a phone call the same day or emailed pictures within a week. Versus a bad review five months late to which I cannot rectify. Jennifer Reliable Movers"
