From start to finish, from Joe, the estimator, to Bill the crew chief, these guys were outstanding: courteous;efficient;very considerate of clean-up after each day;attention to detail; finishing job on-schedule.
We have a nearly 100 year-old home without any kind of ductwork, almost 3000 sq. feet, and 4 levels. I never thought it possible to add a complete central a/c system in anything approaching a reasonable price with top equipment; These guys did it. Minimal disruption of interior space. Very ingenious design of system; Comprehensive planning;
Requirement number one was trying to keep interior of home as little disrupted as possible..i.e: system should be as invisible as possible, as we have gone to great pains over the years to restore the house to its' former style and vintage feel. Heatwave was able to achieve this better than expected. The only real downside is the loss of a rather small amount of closet space,which we felt we could live with.
Great job, guys. Thanks.

Disappointed and not happy. After a somewhat initial pleasant experience with the Heatwave sales associate, the actual Trane central air installation by Heatwave, an authorized Trane dealer, was fraught with workmanship issues. On top of that, it is questionable how the central air conditioner coil housing unit was mounted (was without adequate sealant all around and is obviously not square to the Trane furnace unit it sits on top of), damage was done to the house siding (which I had to point out to the installer who would have otherwise not have said anything and I made him replace it), and no clean up (left lots of sheet metal screws in the garage and driveway) all this again in addition to other workmanship issues. They also required a second trip to reinstall the humidification unit because the first installer could not figure out how to do it. It took a number of calls and return visits to get the humidification unit installed and remedy most, but not all, of the workmanship issues. For the remaining issues, Heatwave?s response was that the unit was functional and that they would not do anything more. Since this was contracted through Lowe?s, Lowe?s agreed with each and every issue I pointed out which came with photos and in Lowe's words, the installation reflected a lack of pride in workmanship. They got involved and was helpful in trying to resolve most of the issues. Lowe's also encouraged me to submit this review to Angie's List. The Heatwave sales associate was helpful as he could be and was professional, but could do only so much. What made this even more of an unpleasant experience was that in addition to the frustration and waste of my personal time was that Heatwave was the most expensive of all the installers quoted. Heatwave was higher in price compared to other reputable installers including those also authorized by Trane. In other words, I paid a premium price for a workmanship issues and a bad experience. You decide, how would you feel after paying thousands of dollars and knowing that you overpaid ... NOT HAPPY.
"Mr. (removed member name), we want to sincerely apologize for any inconvenience our install may have caused you. We understand how frustrating it can be. We want to ensure you that our customers are our first priority, and want to ensure that the issues are rectified. We will give you a call soon to make sure there is nothing further we can do for you."

The sales rep from the first company that came to my home was professional and wore booties over his shoes. He took general measurements and calculated the size of the unit that he thought I would need, but his estimate was scribbled on notebook paper. I was shell shocked by the price...they wanted over $10,000 for a premium Mitsubishi AC system. I was worried that I would never be able to afford an AC system.
The next guy sauntered in without bothering to remove his shoes, eyeballed the space, told me that Mitsubishi systems are terrible and that I should go for a Panasonic, and told me he would email me an estimate.... well over $7000. I knew I wouldn't hire them the minute he walked in the door.
By contrast, Heatwave was extremely professional. When Joe walked in the door he had the company shirt on and put the booties over his shoes. He noticed my new hardwood floors and even mentioned how they needed to be protected in the estimate. He had a really cool and extremely accurate laser measurement system. He brought his computer and portable printer. He used software that has an algorithm that calculates the exact load needed to cool the space most efficiently. The estimate was professionally printed on site. Again I was shell shocked by the price... in a good way! It was half that every other company. Originally $3500. I was thrilled because I knew I could afford it!
Another factor in favor of Heatwave is that they offered a single outdoor compressor for multiple splits. Some companies insisted that I would need multiple outdoor compressors. I decided to upgrade the outdoor compressor so that I could add another split in the future for my attic. This increased my cost to $4000,
A few days after I met Joe, I received a thank you card in the mail. It was a nice personal touch that no other company offered. After the Heatwave estimate, I had a few more estimates but nobody came even close to their price. I signed a contract with Heatwave and schedule the installation for early July.
For the most part the installation team did a good job and got the system up and running without making a huge mess. I had to clean up some dust after they left but I felt they did a good job. There were two issues that needed to be resolved. The first was that the cover for one of the splits broke during the installation. You couldn't tell that it was broken unless you removed it, but he said he would order a new one. The second issue was that I wanted the drain to be fed into the storm drain, but the installers had it draining to the ground. In the last few minutes of he rigged up a PVC to the storm drain but it was poorly done in not secure and ended up leaking, which I didn't notice until last week.
I called their service dept. and within two days they had a technician out to fix the problem. He corrected the leak, secured the the pvc drain, and re-ordered a new cover for the split.
I have had the system for a little over a month now. Trane is a good product and and I am happy with it's performance.
It is really quiet and it cools things down very quickly. I was hoping we would have a few more hot muggy weeks this summer so that I could really put it to the test, but I'll be ready the next time we have a heatwave! The bonus is that the Trane unit has a heat pump and will take the chill out of the air on those crisp cool autumn nights.
After my experience with 6 different companies I would recommend Heatwave to you without reservation.

They were detailed and they were good.
