I purchased health insurance for myself through the New York Health Exchange. I decided to go with CDPHP as I am a healthcare provider and find they are one of the better insurance companies to deal with.
I met all of the deadlines but there were still problems -- information on the exchange was wrong (e.g. it said there were no high deductible HMOs eligible for HSAs when in fact there were several), I received bills for two other people, access to the CDPHP web site was unavailable for about two months, automatic payments were not available. I took it in stride as the Healthcare Exchange was new and buggy. Plus CDPHP was very open about the problems whenever I contacted them.
In terms of price you will pay more for CDPHP -- both Empire Blue Cross and MVP had less expensive plans for my area. I probably could have saved a few hundred dollars per year with comparable plans from either Empire or MVP but due to my professional experience with CDPHP I decided to stick with them. Plus I knew just about every provider in the Capital Region accepts CDPHP.
A few months after getting coverage I developed a rather serious medical problem that required diagnostic work-up and surgery. I knew when I chose my coverage I would have some costs I would have to pay since I had a high deductible HMO. I have found CDPHP great to work with. I stayed within their preferred network for my radiology studies (and you do have a lot of choices) and a PET scan was paid in full (except the radiologist charge, which is normal). My bills have been easy to understand and paid in a timely fashion without any problems. When I have called CDPHP to ask questions they have answered my questions in a timely fashion.
What you learn with insurance is it is the service and coverage that you get when it is needed that counts. CDPHP is a bit more expensive but when you need it they deliver.

Representative was able to clarify the details of our plan and help me understand what would happen with our coverage after we met the deductible in our plan.

The agent was straight forward, confidence-inspiring, very knowledgeable, and patient -- answering numerous questions and explaining pros and cons of all options. She also answered innumerable follow-up e-mails and calls until the decision was made.
With such a highly-rated organization, I feel fortunate to live in CDPHPs catchment area.

The plan sends out an invoice to indicate how much the doctor charges and what was paid. I like having that service. High copay for a very expensive plan.

I am currently enrolled with CDPHP. I left for a year, and went to another company because it was a little bit cheaper. (My company offers a choice between two plans with two different companies.) I was eager to come back to CDPHP. The benefits they offer for the money are a good value, and their service is great. They also work with most of the local (Capital Region) doctors and medical centers, so your choice of providers in this network locally is excellent. My whole family is now enrolled with them and we really like the service and benefits we receive.

Last year I had a catastrophic event and many health care bills. It was difficult keeping track of all that was going on and the Hospital I went to made numerous billing mistakes. CDPHP was happy to help me track down and settle the numerous mistakes. I chose this health care provider every year. They have awesome insentives to stay healthy.

CDPHP overall is a pretty good health insurance provider. Their EPO Plan is competitive and my co-pays are only $35. I have had no problems with them. I used to have MVP but about 2 years ago, my company switched to CDPHP. I loved MVP, but CDPHP has proved to be just as good. As far as customer service goes, I have only dealt with them on a small level, but they have been very helpful in all instances.
