Best & Company

Hiring Best & Co. was one of the most costly and regrettable decisions of my life. My wife and I found Best & Co. through positive social media coverage, without speaking to anyone who had actually engaged the company. This was a huge mistake. Our simple renovation project turned into a nightmare when nearly everyone at Best & Co. who was associated with our project either quit or was fired in the middle of the demolition stage. The months that followed were a disaster, as my wife and I were forced to hound Best & Co. on an almost daily basis to account for massive delays, errors, sparse communication, and the fact that on multiple occasions no one would show up when they were supposed to. Many months behind schedule, we learned that the "millwork" component of our renovation - which we were told was "a week or so away" from being completed - hadn't even been started yet. We were originally told that Best & Co. would be fabricating our millwork at their "in-house", top-quality millwork shop, but after demolishing our living room wall in July, the Company told us that their in-house millworker was actually too busy to complete our project on schedule. They subsequently told us that they assigned the job to a third-party millworker, and told us that fabrication was well underway and nearing completion. Come November, we were shocked to learn that they hadn't even STARTED working on our project. Ultimately, the so-called "project manager" stopped answering our phone calls. We terminated the relationship four months into a project that was supposed to be completed in three. Our apartment is partly demolished and nowhere near finished. None of the essential millwork - the largest and most expensive part of the project - has been started. We now are looking for another contractor to urgently get the work finished before our new baby arrives in April. We will be cutting it close. I truly wouldn't wish this stress and frustration on anyone. We are desperately trying to make up the time and money we've wasted with such a grossly dysfunctional company. There are plenty of other companies out there that can help you avoid these issues. Good luck! (Note, "Best & Company" is the "assumed name" of the contracting company Design Development NYC, Inc.
