Interior Painting, Woodworking
$18,000
I contracted with Scott Davidson representing Davidson Custom woodworking. Scott lives in Sherburne N.Y., approximately 90 minutes away from our home in Lenox Pa., so I offered for him to live in the house while he was working on it. Scott originally said, working 4 days a week, it would take 3 to 4 weeks to complete. He began in the middle of October 2015, immediately said he didn't like the finish product I had on site and that he couldn't guarantee a satisfactory finish with the contracted 3 to 4 coats we contracted for. It cost me an additional $4,400 to purchase the product he preferred to work with. He did a beautiful job but, in 12 weeks he had only finished half the house before disappearing the end of Jan. 2016. Scott disappeared for 8 months, in those 8 months I repeatedly called, left voice mail messages and texts, all of which he ignored. When he finally answered my call (probably forgot to screen), he said he had family issues to attend to and offered to return to finish the work. Scott returned, finished the other half of the house, said he had to do the interior staircase last and asked for additional work. We agreed to his hourly wage to install kitchen cabinets, a kitchen island and an exterior front staircase. Scott also offered to build a custom bathroom vanity for $400 and if we liked his cabinetry work he would build two more for the other two bathrooms. During this time Scott asked to be paid in cash, which I did. He then asked to be paid each week on the day he left, rather than submitting a bill and being paid the following week, which I did. The last day Scott was on the job site 11/11/2016, he left unexpectedly, leaving 20% of the kitchen incomplete. The island wasn't finished, one cabinet not installed correctly, none of the handles and knobs were installed and moldings not installed. The exterior staircase was never even started and the interior staircase was left unfinished. He said he would return with the custom vanity on the day the installers were coming from the countertop company to install the cultured stone countertop, promising to finish the kitchen and begin other work upon his return. That was 13 months ago, once again, Scott has disappeared, has not answered or responded to any of my calls, voice mails or texts. The good news is, he was only paid for the work he completed, he didn't run off with any unearned money. Living together I thought he was a nice guy and that we had become friends but, I now feel my kindness was taken advantage of. There is no reason a contractor could not at the very least offer the courtesy of a phone call with an explanation, for whatever reason why they cannot finish. Scott showed me no respect as a customer, especially a customer so willing to accommodate him. Even though the quality of his work is there, what good is it if it's incomplete? Scott has talent but is severely lacking in professionalism and is not at all a man of his word. I'm sorry to say, I would "NEVER" recommend Davidson Custom Woodworking to anyone.
