The ac units prior to 2013 were old but were functioning correctly. I felt it was time to replace the units so I could avoid the maintenance problems and cost. Therefore, I purchased the new units and have had nothing but problems and cost from the contractor.
I got three other bids on this job and chose Williams for the price, quality of service, and professionalism. Very happy with our decision.
They kept household disruption to a minimum and cleaned up the areas they were working in.
"Thank you for your review and feedback. We appreciate your business."
replace it with a Trane XC95m high-efficiency furnace. A $2400.00 down payment was made prior to the beginning of
work. Chris had come to our home and inspected the crawl space to determine what
furnace would work in our area before any work was completed. Before the work
was begun, we were informed that the son of the owner and his wife would do the
install, because the scheduled plumber was going to be at a funeral on the day
the install was supposed to happen. Thirty minutes after plumbers from Williams were
scheduled to arrive at our home for the install, I received a phone call from
Annette, Chris' wife, to tell me that when they received the furnace from Denver
and did some preliminary work on it the night before the install, they found
some damage, so they would not bring it out that day. She and Chris arranged
for another furnace to be delivered the next day and they said they would arrive
to remove the old furnace and install the new one after 12:00 pm that day. I asked if they could do the install in one afternoon and
was told that 3 or 4 employees would be on the job, so it would be finished that same day. Two
gentlemen did arrive at 1:00 pm (Annette called at 11:30 am to say they would
come) and started work that day as promised. They got the old furnace out.
Eventually, one of the gentlemen told me that the new furnace was too big for
the crawl space. [This is where I should have told them to stop and not return.
I still thought we would have heat by that evening, so I did not.] They told me
that they would pull up my carpet and cut through the oak floors to drop the
furnace into the crawl space. They said that they would replace the wood and
stretch the carpet back. I replied, "You will?" Then they said they
would look at other options and speak with their boss, Chris. They started
drilling under the house without telling me what they were doing. I was not
sure what sort of concrete they were chipping away or where they were chipping. I would ask and
they wouldn?t reply (perhaps they could not hear me in all the noise). A big
thunderstorm came through; they covered the crawl space entrance with cardboard
and continued to drill with an electric cord plugged in our outside outlet.
Chris, the owner, arrived and said that he ordered the wrong size furnace and that is why they chipped away
at the concrete (he never said why they didn?t just go order the correct size
and return another time). Next he said that they put a furnace in that had an opening
at a wrong angle so they removed it, went back to the shop to get a different
one, and put another furnace in the crawl space. They finally got the furnace in the crawl
space by chipping away concrete at the entrance and in the bowl holding the
furnace. Chris' son Bret told me that they were going to install a new vent pipe even though Chris
had originally said that would not happen when he gave the estimate. After
searching for and finding the attic crawl space for the vent pipe, he said they
would have to drill through the oak wood floors and send PVC pipe up through
the water heater closet for the vent pipe. As it was turning dark outside, Bret told me that the only day they
had open to return and finish work was Sunday but that was their day off. Later Chris told me that he
would speak with Annette to figure out how to reschedule. He said that they
were already scheduled for a job replacing two new heating units and two new
refrigerated air units, so they would not be able to finish the job they were
doing for me. They left about 6:30 pm saying that the vent area had to be rebuilt
so the old vent work would fit the new furnace. He left me with the impression that Annette
would call later on in the afternoon of the next day. Annette did not call on
Thursday. She finally called on late Friday to say she wanted to bring space
heaters by for us and maybe schedule a time for their crew to finish the job
the following week. We told her that they did not need to return. Williams sent
us a final bill of $1,628.26.
"This project defiantly had several issues On the scheduled day for this installation the installers went to pick up the furnace at the supply house. When the box was opened they found freight damage on the unit. This caused us to have to delay the installation until a replacement unit can be found. It is unfortunate but out of our control. In an attempt to get the furnace installed in a quick manor because of the delay we decided to squeeze the installation in with a three men crew on a short day. We had another customer we had promised an install date for the following day and when we called that customer to ask if we could push his installation back he declined since he was taking work off for his installation. Our mistake was scheduling to tightly, this did not allow for issue that may happen. During the installation we were delayed because of challenges getting the furnace under the home and the replacement furnace that was given to the installer by the supply house was incorrect (not what was ordered). After opening the entrance to the crawl space by chipping away extra over poor concrete from the entrance and returning the furnace for the correct one we worked until 7-8 pm in the hail and rain to try and get it up and running. We finally decided to call it a day when it was apparent the delays and time remaining to complete the install was much longer than we had anticipated for this day. Again we made an incorrect call that we could get installed in an afternoon and had a perfect storm of wrong equipment, weather and challenges that we did not account for. Our normal operation is to allow time for challenges and in 99% of the cases the challenges are resolved with undue stress on the home owner. As to cutting the floor, the installers where working on solutions, a process we should not do with the customer around until we have talked the idea trough amongst ourselves first, because some ideas like cutting a hole in the floor to lower the furnace into the space would not have been acceptable after further discussion. The new vent system did require the need to open the floor behind a water heater in a closet to run two 3” PVC pipes through to the roof. These pipes would be hidden and in a mechanical closet. Annette did call her to offer electric heaters, and reschedule the rest of the project. At that time Mrs. [Member Name Removed] asked that we not return and bill her for the work completed up to that point. I tried to call her to work out a solution so we could finish what we started but did not receive a return phone call. I do apologize for not scheduling the project with more time and undue stress caused, but, because of the time crunch things did not go as planned. We work very hard to prevent situations like this, but with construction, not everything can go as smoothly as we hope for. We do sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this caused Mrs. [Member Name Removed]."
