When Alex arrived on 1/2/12, the burners started fine and he couldn't replicate my problem. Since the induction fan had been running without the burners kicking in, he was certain that the problem was with a vacuum switch and convinced me to let him replace it. He promised to buy that part back if it proved to not be the cause. He charged me for the part and the after-hours response and left. The furnace ran fine for another day but then started acting up again. This time I found I was able to get the burners to light if I wiggled wires connected to the circuit board. I called Alex but he didn't answer, then called and left a message with his office. Alex called me back a couple hours later and agreed to come by after all of his other calls that day. I told him that I had isolated the problem to a short between the soldered plug and circuit board, and I gave him the part number of the circuit board and explained that I had found the same board available new online for $139. He called me back to say that board would cost me $179 if I bought it from him, but he was willing to refund $50 for the unneeded vacuum switch and wouldn't charge me any more for the installation. Unfortunately, when he arrived, the part he had was not the same and he didn't know if it was the wrong part or an upgrade. And since it was after hours, he couldn't call the supplier. We decided that I would wiggle the plug to keep it running another day and he would return the next day after all his calls and on his way home. I was up several times through that night and into the next morning manually restarting the burners. Finally about 8am, the board died completely and didn't appear to be getting any power. I called and gave Alex an update, but he could not make it back until that evening. Luckily, the outside temperature got into the low 50?s that day and we did not have to be home. Alex called me near the end of his last call that afternoon and I left work to meet him at the house. When he arrived, he had the same part that he had determined was an upgrade (which explained the higher cost). He installed the new board and I paid him the additional $138 for the difference in part prices. After that the furnace has been running fine.
Description of Work: The furnace had been working earlier in the evening of January 2nd, but about 7pm stopped producing heat. I checked and found that the Induction Draft Motor was running but the main burners would not start. I called Albuquerque Plumbing, Heating & Cooling because of their high rating on Angie's List. I had to leave a message and Alex called me back within 30 min, then finished his current job before coming to my house about an hour later. Unfortunately, when he arrived, the furnace started working and he couldn't replicate my problem. After about a day and for the next six days, I spoke to Alex several times on the phone and he was back to the house twice before my issue was resolved. Thankfully, I have a technical background and could self-diagnose my issue and keep my furnace running while I waited. I was disappointed that the only time he had for me was after all of his other customers. Alex was very nice and has years of experience, but I would recommend Albuquerque Plumbing, Heating & Cooling to anyone not willing to actively monitor every step of the service or knowledgeable enough to keep their own furnace running while they wait.

I will never do business with Albuquerque Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling on any future service calls. I do however, recommend doing business with Wagner Mechanical. They did great work in taking care of the A/C problem.
Description of Work: The technician did not fully clean the A/C coil system as directed. Our property management office paid for this service so I really cannot specify on the cost. Since the system was still malfunctioning, another A/C company was called out and it was then that this technician discovered that the A/C coil system was not properly cleaned.

Ray arrived on time and even called prior to arrival. I supplied the new faucets and he installed them. The second faucet package was missing parts and had to be returned to the big box store; therefore the work had to stop for the day. Ray arranged for a return visit the next day after I had purchased a new faucet. He also rebuilt all 3 of my toilets. He was extremely personable, professional and neat! Excellent experience!

Quite well. In the course of less than an hour he cleared the problem, working from the flange where the toilet goes. (Before he came, I had removed the toilet myself -- since our house is from a period when "cleanout" access points were not customarily installed, they'd suggested that that was the best entry into the system, and I wanted to take the opportunity to retrofit a modern water saving toilet anyway). It was a clog some 30 feet into the pipe. He rooted it out the estimated distance to the street and reported no other problems. He was knowledgeable, punctual (actually, after asking, a bit early) and friendly and cleaned up after himself. I was pleased with this service, and plan to call them back in the spring for an estimate on installation of a cleanout and some other plumbing work.
Description of Work: Diagnosed and fixed a sewer clog that was causing one shower drain, the underneath of adjacent toilet, and the bathroom floor to share their function.

Upon inspection, he replaced the proper part and also discovered that the water heater was still under warranty (THEY did the research and discovered this) and we were only charged for the labor! I was impressed with their service and would recommend them.

First visit was ok, (only routine maintenance) but after that downhill. Asked for estimate to improve our HVAC system (eg. insulating ductwork, furnace repair etc). Quote we received was $4,200 - way over priced after we just spent over $1,100 maintenance on our furnace (for which they told us that should fix our problem ) - then they would not break down the estimate - called 4x requesting a break down of the quote- no response the first 2x then told they cannot break it down. I explained that i was about to give a poor report and tried to give them one more chance to correct things. No response from that call either. Made one last attempt, they responded stating that they do not break down quotes - how can you give work to a company who cannot define how the money is spent? Not sure how this company ever got A's on Angies List.

They were very nice on the phone and would have come out the next day if we had been available. We were still able to get an appointment in less than a week. They gave us an 8-10am appointment and sure enough, they were here just after 8am. The workman did the work quickly, was pleasant, and didn't leave a trace of a mess behind. He explained the problem to us and how to prevent it in the future. Our fireplace is working perfectly now and we feel much safer. Now we have a working fireplace just in time for the snow!
Description of Work: Troubleshot and repaired our gas log fireplace. It was not lighting properly (it was taking too long to light and then a ball of fire would come into the room) and the pilot light was also burning too high.

On Saturday, 12/22/2012: I called Albuquerque Plumbing, Heating and Cooling (APHC - my abbreviation) to see if they had anyone who worked on propane wall heaters that would service homes in the East Mountains. They answered the phone, and the service provider/technician called back immediately to schedule a time. This problem was not at my own house but at a house we own in the East Mountains that my father is living in right now. The technician arrived a little later than he had originally said but it was within reason given unknown circumstances with the job(s) he had to complete ahead of me. Jason was cheerful and professional and quickly diagnosed the problem (a broken gas valve). He did not have a replacement on his truck, and the warehouse to get one was closed and would charge $100 to open the doors to get one. We agreed to wait on the valve until either Monday (December 24 - very unlikely, we were informed) or Wednesday, December 26. On Wednesday, 12/26/2012: I did not receive a phone call from APHC regarding a time for the valve to be installed. I called them late in the morning. I was informed that the service would not take place on Wednesday but rather on Thursday at 9:00AM. This was a little frustrating, as we had re-arranged some plans as to be available, but at this point, I did not complain because I felt it might be understandable. I gave them the intake and billing information they needed. I re-arranged my schedule again to accommodate the new time. A short time later, someone from APHC called to ask how I had heard about them. She specifically asked if I was a member of Angie's List. I said that I wasn't. She then indicated that if I became one in the future, I would be eligible for a 20% (not 10%) discount on labor. That was the only information she needed. Wednesday night, I called my dad (who is living in the house with the broken heater) and learned from him that APHC had called him (less than 1 hour after they called me to find out if I was a member of Angie's List) to let him know that they were not coming out on Thursday but would come on Friday instead. The technician (Jason) was going to be busy on someone else's job. They did not call me with this information. They had all of my phone numbers and already had credit card information from me. Because of their thorough intake, they were well informed that I was the property owner and the person who would be paying the bill. I joined Angie's List Wednesday evening and hoped that, by informing the company I now planned to report on my overall experience, my job would get finished. Thursday morning, I called APHC to express my frustration with the reschedules from Wednesday to Thursday and then Thursday to Friday and the fact that they did not inform me of the second schedule change. I also let them know that I was now a member of Angie's list. The woman I spoke with assured me that the technician would be there first thing in the morning, and I would not be rescheduled again. Later that morning, she called back and said they had another technician that would be able to get the job done on Thursday. Because of rearranging my plans, I was not going to be able to be there but called my dad who said he would wait for them. Gary, the new technician, called me awhile later to indicate he was on his way. When I talked with my dad later, he said that Gary was professional and that the heater was working. I checked it myself on Saturday and it seems to be functioning as it was before. Although I authorized the work that Gary completed, I was surprised to learn after the job and received an invoice (at 4:30 on Friday afternoon via e-mail) that the replacement valve and parts cost about $270.00. This was higher than I had expected and it would have been nice to know this cost ahead of time even though it would not have changed the decision to fix the heater. I will say that we have had some similar difficulties with subcontractors in the East Mountains, but we hold out hope each time that our experience will be better. APHC's technicians were professional and competent, but the scheduling was very unprofessional. Because their technicians were good and they were responsive to our concerns once we voiced them strongly, we will consider using them again but will hope for the kind of service we have read about from other Angie's List customers.
Description of Work: Called to fix a propane wall heater that had stopped working. When I tried to light it myself, I could smell propane and the "firing" up of the heater sounded wrong to me. Albuquerque Plumbing and Heating came and diagnosed the problem and replaced a valve that regulated the amount of propane going into the heater. This took 2 visits, one to diagnose the issue and one to replace the valve.

I placed a "Please help! It's freezing and I have no heat!" call to ABQ Plumbing and Heating yesterday (chose this company because of the many good reviews on Angie's List). They were able to get a technician out that same day. The technician, Alex, called me shortly after and was able to come over earlier than the planned appointment (yay!). I asked to look over his shoulder in order to educate myself in case I needed to troubleshoot next time. While he worked he walked me through the different mechanisms in my heater explaining the inner workings and safety features. Unfortunately our path led us to decide my 15 year old heater needed to be replaced (not what I wanted to hear the day after Christmas but the right decision). Alex was awesome and talked me through the different heater options and plus and minuses of each. Once I decided on a heater he was able to get on the phone and get all the parts he needed that afternoon. He showed up at 0800 the next day to install (I couldn't believe how extremely helpful he was - SO refreshing!). When he arrived he brought a digital, programmable thermostat with him because he remembered I wasn't fond of my old school thermostat. HE MADE MY DAY!! Looking forward to a warm, worry-free house. Very impressed by the service, knowledge, and professionalism - will definitely be a return customer and recommend to friends.

It all went well until I noticed that the plumber left it with a leak. I didn't check until a couple hours after he left. I was about to put everything back under the sink and there it was dripping. To be honest, we left on vacation the next morning so there was no time to call and have him come back. Except for that, everything was fine.

The job was completed, but at one point the technician though one of the zones was not working. It should be noted that the person they sent was not their "boiler person". Ultimately we determined that the zone did work, but I was the one who figured out the problem.
Description of Work: They winterized our two "swamp coolers" and did the fall start up of our natural gas hot water boiler and the baseboard hot water heating system in the house. We recently bought the house and we are not familiar with this type of system, so we wanted a professional to start it up the first time we used it.

When Ken came out to look at our job, I thought, man, they need to take him and clone about ten of him. He was very professional, clearly really likes what he does and is an excellent representative for this company. They came and installed a split system for us that had some challenging design elements which Ken handled really well and actually shaved a significant amount off the initial estimate because he thought about a better design in between the original estimate and the actual job. I was also very impressed with Richard- not only are these guys apparently highly skilled tradesmen, they are pleasant and funny and seem to enjoy working with each other. I would definitely recommend ABQ Plumbing, Heating and Cooling. An excellent experience from the first call for the bid to the final cleanup.
