Their website is false promises. Epstien is an awful doctor and a rude uncaring evil person. She didnt say hello or goodbye and left me in room and never returned. She said "its not broken, you have arthritis" and never returned after I asked what is there to help me. I was degraded and received no help. I was hopeful when reading their website and chose this place from other orthopedics...big mistake. I recommend you skip this place and wait for an appt with a REAL doctor specialist at LOVELACE, UNM, or PRES. This place is a steping stone, to take your money, on your way to a REAL medical facility treatment. They collect your money and not provide a service...they have a website of false promises. Very nice front desk and staff, but I felt sorry for the staff as they have to work with Dr Epstien who treated the staff terribly as well.

Excellent. I have been to some larger practices, but this is the best overall in friendliness and professionalism.

Staff friendly. Office personnel don't seem to have their act together. Gal at front desk didn't take my deductible as indicated on insurance card for my visit. I had to stop on my way out and ask if they wanted it. This might be good for me, but lends me to wonder about the accuracy of their record keeping. Not the biggest deal.
PA I saw recommended an MRI. Saw her Monday...told I would get a call the next day and MRI would probably happen that Saturday. (Great since I was on my way out of town.) Called Friday and listened to two minutes of excuses as to why the gal hadn't gotten to my file yet. I suggested she communicate her list of challenges with her PA so that timeframes weren't misrepresented in the future, hung up and waited for a return call. End of story: Took seven days to get a call with the appt. I was out of town. When my dog needed an MRI the vet called back in 2 hours. Yes, they had to call my insurance co. (5-10 min call at best). Rating reflects the very friendly but struggling office team. I'm going to give another Dr. and their staff an opportunity for my business.
Response from Academy Orthopaedic Clinic
"I am sorry to hear that your experience at our clinic was such that you don't plan on coming back. Being a small business, we do things differently than the big medical offices. We strive to treat our patients like individuals, and not just another number. Our providers concentrate on taking care of patient’s medical needs, and the staff concentrates on taking care of logistics. This means providers aren't always privy to the complexity of insurance companies, and getting authorization for procedures. When dealing with insurance companies, every time we need authorization for anything, we spend an average of 2 hours on the phone. If a patient would like to pay cash, and not run things through their insurance, we then, of course, don't need to get authorization. As for the deductible, I don't know if you are now using a different card, but the card you presented at the time of service doesn't list any deductibles on it. We prefer not to take monies from a patient, without knowing the exact amount owed. We then bill the patient later. This may seem to you to be poor business, but we feel it raises our accuracy rates, instead of collecting unnecessary monies that we then have to refund."

They are efficient. Patients are required to arrive thirty minutes prior to their scheduled appointment. The physician I saw was all business, no small talk. The condition for which I was seen has not yet been resolved.
