prices are the highest in my area.
13 years I'm dealing with them, this is the last season.
getting estimates to install my own propane tanks then I can buy from the cheapest source
if you have the time to Google them you'll find lots of people that have had the same experience I have had
I asked that they schedule an automatic delivery at 3 month intervals. In May of 2012 I realize my tank is empty and that they haven't been delivering as requested. I called up and had them come out on an emergency basis to fill my now empty tank. In addition to charging me for the gas they charged $175 "will call off route" fee for having to come out on a day they were closed even though they had missed 4 deliveries in the past year which caused me to run out.
After many phone calls the manager finally agreed to waive the $175 fee and assured me I would have a fuel delivery every 3 months as originally requested. I had a fuel delivery on 6/12/2012. So, I should have had another delivery on or around 9/12/2012, but it too was missed. I realized this on 10/25/2012, over 4 months since my last delivery. This is right before hurricane Sandy when there was a good chance my generator would be running for a week or more due to power loss. The woman tells me we were scheduled to have delivery on 10/30 which makes no sense since that would put the interval at about 4 and a half months. Of course, the hurricane hits and Suburban doesn't show for the 10/30 delivery either. By today, 11/1/2012, I'm running dangerously low on propane due to the missed September delivery. Twice today a woman at their office promises she'll send a delivery today. They at 3:30 PM I get a call from the general manager telling me they're not coming out today because they ran out of propane. You can imagine my frustration with this company at this point which I DID express. In addition, this manager could care less about the history of the way I was treated by them. I got zero empathy from her, only her wanting ME to empathize with her that they were out of fuel and working from a satellite location because of the storm. Remember, this stems from the missed delivery in SEPTEMBER, well before the storm. Had they kept their word then I wouldn't be running out of fuel today. Then, 45 minutes after hanging up, they show up at my home and make the delivery. Wait a minute... I thought they were out of fuel???
As a side note, I had them do an installation of the gas line to a standby generator for me this year as well. Each time I had to schedule them to come out it was a ONE MONTH wait. On the second visit they were supposed to complete the installation including adding a second tank. When the guy shows up it's without the second tank and tells me no one told him. This causes yet another delay.
Bottom line is this company's office personnel are ridiculously unorganized. They can't adhere to any delivery schedule you give them and can't seem to get anything right. The office staff is deceptive, including the general manager. They repeatedly lied to me about the missed deliveries and about not having fuel to deliver today. They're more interested in trying to deflect blame and lying to cover themselves than making things right for their customers. Again, I highly recommend you STAY AWAY from Suburban Propane/Suburban Energy or whatever else they call themselves.
