I use both the Union and Westfield facilities for the medical care of our dogs and have for the past 5 years, ever since they saved the life of our eldest dog, Blitzen, when she was suffering from congestive heart failure. She had gotten into this condition due to the failure of our previous vet to take her heart murmur and mitral valve condition seriously and treat it, or refer it to a specialist. Since then, we have received professional, caring medical services for all three of our dogs by every vet and technician at both facilities. As Blitzen's care now requires frequent hospitalizations or chronic kidney failure, we are well acquainted with both the staff and emergency veterinarians and most of the techs, and are impressed with the professionalism and true caring they demonstrate every time we come in. We especially love Dr. Kevin Maus, who treats our dogs as if they were a part of his own family. Our dogs are like our kids, and I trust them implicitly to give them the best care possible. They are also great to decrease the pets' fear as much as possible, and to educate pet parents.

It all went very well. Dr Doyle is the best! Short of getting Dr. Maus, the owner, himself, you can't do better. Of course all the docs there are great and I have always felt in good hands there. All the staff is very professional and yet very human. They treat you and your animals with utmost respect and caring. They truly love animals, each and every one and it shows. Dr. Doyle is very gentle with my dog, and has an excellent "table side" manner with the client. I have been with Westfield for some 30 years through some very rough and some good times and I can truly say they are tops. They are a little more expensive than some maybe, but well worth it. They are super up to date on everything and can do more for you and your pet than the average vet. They are unequivocally the best around. So good in fact the Union county K9 force is their client. That is good testimony in itself. If you don;t know where to take your pet, try Westfield. You won't be disappointed.
Description of Work: My dog was checked over from head to toe and treated for a lip infection. her anal glands were treated and a complimentary nail clipping was done. She also received her 3 yr rabies shot and received the paperwork for the town and her rabies tag.

My cat ended up having crystals in his urine, which is something that often just happens (I've had two cats previously with the same exact problem). We took him in for emergency care at 10PM. and they had no problem taking him in immediately. He needed to stay for a few days, and the doctors called twice a day to update me on the situation. Unfortunately, my car re-blocked, and he had to have the surgery again. He ended up staying there for about two weeks for observation and overall care. By the end, all of the doctors, techs, and front desk people knew Chaos and were sad to see him go (because he's awesome, not because they wanted him to be sick). Everyone was very nice, very professional, and super awesome. I was very happy with their service, and would definitely recommend them to everyone.

Was not very happy with the care I received for my cat. My biggest complaint was I was in the exam room and in the middle of asking a question the Doctor opened the door and pretty much gave me the impression that my time was up for me to leave and starting walking out. Also they will not accept faxes from online sites that sell prescription food. All they have to do is ok the fax that is sent to them, instead they want you to drive there to pick up a prescription. They are now open 24 hrs. So I would use them in an emergency but I have found another vet in the area

We used to use Westfield Veterinary Group but have since switched to another in the area. First the positive: We believe the doctors there provide a good level of care. They are now open 24 hours. On the negative side it always seemed as though they were trying to sell treatments. For example, they kept recommending that my 15 year old dog have his teeth cleaned. This requires general anesthesia and I have since learned is not advisable for a dog that age. Their prices seem more expensive than other vets in the area. Finally, they need a business manager to oversee the front desk area. There are usually several young women sitting there more interested in chatting than helping customers. Many times I tried calling during business hours and no one answered the phone. Some supervision is in order.

The staff has been great. For wellness visits, I think it's a good place to go. If it's anything severe, there's another place I would take them. This is convenience around the corner for inoculations and basic stuff. When my dog's not sick it's okay type visits. I don't know if I would trust them with something severe.

I would agree with many of the other reviewers' comments in that the quality of the veterinary care is good, but their business practices, staff professionalism, and pricing would benefit from a serious overhaul. I don't have any horror stories; rather, it just seems like they're singularly focused on maximizing profits with customer satisfaction a distance second. Everything requires an additional cost and just getting them to refill a prescription is a battle as they try to get you to commit to yet another "wellness exam" in the interest of your pet's health (guilt, guilt). It's exhausting, and it's also really expensive. I lived in NYC prior to moving nearby, and my vet in the city was less expensive (imagine that) and their office staff was much more pleasant to deal with. I will continue to use them as I'm already in too deep and my dog is older. However, I would think twice before starting a relationship with them with a new pet. As I said earlier, the quality of care isn't an issue; they just need to reconsider their focus, ease up on their policies (they're not fooling anyone by suggesting that their practices are in your pet's best interest) and retrain their staff to be more customer friendly. With the quality vets they have on staff, let's hope they can do better in other areas of the practice in the future.

I used the Westfield Veterinary Group for over 20 years and at the end felt such disappointment. I always felt they gave the best care but toward the end felt that getting you and your pet in and out was becoming more important. I switched care givers and found that the vets at Westfield had overlooked a skin condition and anal fistulas. I asked my new veterinarian why that last condition would or could be overlooked and the reply was that most veterinarians don't want to get down there to examine that area and the skin condition was something the dog could live with. His coat on his hindquarters was so dry and flakey and the shedding was unbelievable and no amount of brushing helped. I can't imagine the discomfort the dog had with both those conditions. Would I use them again, I am not so sure. After all those years I am terribly disappointed.

They took wonderful care of my cat through most of her life. She was 17 when she passed. I used them for more than 10 years. The doctors and staff were caring, considerate, professional, and sensitive. They made what was a difficult time for me as easy as possible. I would definitely recommend this practice. They also have very convenient hours.

My dog wasn't eating, was retching and seemed to have pain. I called after 8:00 p.m. and they said to bring her right in. They were open until 9:00. The doctor was understanding and compassionate and performed a thorough exam. He took xrays to make sure there was no obstruction. All was well, except for a very upset stomach from something she ate. I can't compare their prices to other vets because I have been using this Vet Group for over 30 years. I have always been satisfied with their service. I have health insurance to cover the cost of my dog's care.

This visit was not a bad visit overall. However, the cost for the services provided seemed quite expensive. In the past, I have experienced subpar service especially from the front desk/reception staff. Multiple phone calls were made to speak with a veterinarian regarding one of my pets that requires monitoring due to a urinary problem. Eventually I had to speak with the office manager because no one returned my calls. The office manager, who was fairly new at the time, also stated that there had been changes to the front desk staff and that she was aware there were issues. Since I have been bringing my animals to this animal hospital for over 7 years, it has been disappointing to say the least to experience a lower quality of service. It has made me think twice about changing to another animal hospital. However, I do feel that Dr. Shaun Day is a wonderful veterinarian and would recommend him any day. If it wasn't for Dr. Day, I am pretty sure I would have changed veterinarians over a year ago.

Their price was fair. My experience was very good. They're easy getting an appointment with and the the doctors are very good. They listen to you, ask if there's something wrong and they look and check. They are very good. I have no problem with them. I have one aggressive dog and they are very good with him. I haven't gone to other places to really know the differences in the price but they are different than most. I have no problem getting in and out in there. You have to wait half an hour sometimes. They are very professional.

My last visit was a simple ear problem. The vet I saw looked at her, was sweet to her, the tech and doc combined gentle and loving. She was prescribed a topical medication and antibiotic in the case of infection and was checked on later to be sure all was clear. Blood was drawn to check for infection and there was one so this confirmed treatment was right on the money. Blood was also drawn for DNA testing. She was well checked all over for general health and the doctor pinpointed what was wrong correctly.
Description of Work: I have owned four dogs in my married life, over a span of 35 years and for the majority of that time I have used the Westfield Veterinary Group for their care. I have always found their vets of high quality and caring. The owner back about 25 years ago was still actively practicing and was exceptionally kind and open when my mini schnauzer was dying of cancer. He spoke to me as a fellow dog owner. I only wish he took on more cases now. Since then several of the vets have gone above and beyond the call of duty. One, calling me personally upon the putting down of one dog, a couple of the vets calling to see how my dogs were doing following treatment and one sending a card to my home with personal condolences. Upon the death of one of them, the technician offered to clip a lock or two of her hair for a memory. One doctor did extensive research, consulting other specialists outside the practice for a second opinion and he was particularly compassionate with her treatment of a rare flesh-eating disease. Yes, they are a bit pricey, you might find a vet more reasonably priced, but they have such modern equipment and technologies and even participate in a national study to have my dog's DNA examined fro disease research on animals health issues and persons. Clean facilities, I was even allowed to tour their boarding facilities before boarding my first dog there. complimentary nail clipping in some circumstances. I like them very much and can find little fault with them.

I am not satisfied with them. They seem to be more interested in the sale of products and services rather than the wellness of my dog. They want sign me up for some program or treatment before they even look at him. It has changed since I first started with them and they now seem to be interested more in profits than caring for the animals. I would say that they are good for the few minutes that they spend on my dog. They do give a thorough exam but for a very short time. They are not negligent and will spend more time if there is a problem like discharge of the eye. They are clean and the appointments are prompt.

Nice facility, clean, modern with boarding facilities in the back. He is totally up to date with all his vaccinations and check ups and they are done there so the record is easily accessible. For some reason he was tested again for lyme/heartworm before the year was complete and he takes preventative meds for this. They tried to explain why to me when I lodged my complaint but it was not satisfactory. Why would he need this if he is taking preventative for this? What is the point? I feel that they are more interested in services and product now rather than good, sound care for your pet. We also recently boarded him and he came back with no voice/bark which leaves me to believe he was left to bark endlessly. That has never happened to him before in any place that he has ever boarded.

My inlaws had been using this hospital for years, so it came highly recommended. The surgery went well, and the staff seem very nice, but it's awfully expensive. Worst of all - they gave me an estimate for the spay and then doubled the price when I came back to pick up the cat. I didn't even get an apology for the screw up - or an offer to make it up to us. That's just wrong. Some of the vets also try and push products that may not be necessary. Needless to say, we're looking for a new vet.
Description of Work: Took my new dog and cat to this hospital for their regular checkups. Everything went fine - but it was very expensive (about $250 per pet). My cat needed to be spayed, which wound up costing more than $500.
