I am not a customer but the neighbor of the customer. 11/22/2017, the subcontractor Ashley contracted, C&H Disposal of Elmer NJ, pulled a dumpster from neighbor's yard & drove on my yard, leaving ruts where the tires were & damaging the enclosure for the water & gas (the water company fixed). C&H Disposal's driver left without informing me & I found it the next day as I got home from work after dark. Ashley said C&H Disposal took full responsibility for the damage & I would have to deal with them. I called C&H Disposal about the ruts & a month later after many false promises & a bunch of resistance, C&H Disposal showed up unannounced & filled in the ruts. Just topsoil; no seed, fertilizer, or an erosion preventer. The sidewalk damage makes this muddy. Winter & the downpour 4/16 showed that damage was done to the curb & sidewalk where C&H Disposal's truck drove onto my yard. The water pools on the sidewalk where the truck did the damage & causes muddy grass & possibly ice in the winter. I called C&H Disposal about the issue 4/13 (left message) & 4/17 & followed up both times by calling Ashley. I was told 4/17 by C&H Disposal they would not repair the damage because I waited 5 months (actually 4 months) to contact them (they were mostly unresponsive to get the ruts filled in). I didn't tell them the extensive damage because the damage didn't become apparent until months later due to the weather. They also questioned how they know their truck did the damage. If they initially responded & sent someone to inspect the damage, they would have seen the damage their driver incurred. They did more damage than initially observed & now refuse to repair the damage they caused. I followed up with Ashley & they agreed that since it had been 5 months (actually 4 months) since the damage occurred, they agreed with C&H Disposal & would not repair the damage to my sidewalk. Contractors like this give honest contractors a bad name.
Response from Ashley Construction

"Hello, We were sorry to hear of the incident you say took place at your home and any inconvenience it caused you. We did try to go above and beyond to help you in this matter by contacting the dumpster company responsible directly several times on your behalf to get the matter resolved. It was our understanding the matter had finally been resolved by the dumpster company as our last communication with them they had scheduled the repair to be completed."

I had to hire other electricians to come and fix it.  They could have burn down the house. luckily, my new electrician came back. I had live wires in my wall. At the end, they did not want to fulfill what was in the contract. There was a foundation work that they was contracted to do but they did not do it. After they won the contract, it became awful. I had to stay with them the whole time to get most of the work done. I made sure it was right but I cannot be with them the whole time. As things progressed, I found more things that they did not do correctly. We were also affected by sandy very badly. The work that they have done was ruined by the hurricane. We had to rip up the hardwood floors that they put down. The new contractors looked at it and told us that we were lucky that we got flooded because it was just a fast job. It would have fallen apart a year or so. They had to do concrete work for my whole property. The concrete inside was okay but they did not put any extension with the concrete outside. The finished work was awful.

"(Member name removed) is a tenant at the location where we did work for his in-laws. He lives on the lower floor of the property where most of the work was completed. The Plaskow's are the property owners. We were paid to complete the work by the next door neighbors and their insurance company (One Beacon Insurance) We completed all work to everyone's satisfaction including the building inspector. We completed many extras for the home owners on the second floor. When hurricane Sandy hit Atlantic City the Plaskows called us to do more work, we declined because we were already too busy, they became angry over the phone I told them there was nothing we do for them. It is my belief that (Member name removed) go upset that we would not do more work for them and wrote this pack of lies about us. So in conclusion we did not even have a contract with this person, and his comments are untrue. Robert Ashley Ashley Construction"

We hired Ashley Construction to complete a renovation of our basement.  We were expecting a baby and needed more living space in our home. The job was quoted to take 45 days maximum,  but they assured us it would be complete before the beginning of October (baby was due at the end of October).  At the end of 4.5 months (our baby is now 2.5 months old) of us constantly hounding them and with holding partial payment until additional items were complete the job is finally nearly, but not completely finished.  A fair amount of their work is spot on,  but they have not been detail oriented and some of the final details were lacking.

At the beginning and well into the middle of the job I would email them with issues that we needed resolved,  but at this point feel like we get a lot of lip service and the job continues to drag on.  We've conceded to ourselves to fix the issues once the contractor is gone just to get the job done.  Here is a list of some of the many items that have been an issue for us:

  •  They did not put a skirt of the stairs and then later used caulking that is bumpy and poorly done.
  •  Patch work was done on a wall because an outlet was missed during drywalling,  the repair work was poorly sanded (if at all) before being repainted.
  • The floating laminate floor was installed without heeding the manufacturer's guidelines thus voiding the 25 year warranty and with small gaps that detract from the appeal (we're still waiting to see how it holds up).  Ashley assures us they will warranty for 1 year,  but we are disappointed that our 25 year warranty is now void due to their 'professional' installation.
  • The building inspector was here several times and gave them a list of items to correct.  They did not complete all items and so failed again when he was called.  On at least one occasion, we had to call the inspector because corrections were not made and Ashley had indicated they would be moving forward with the work.
  • Large gaps of time went by when no work was done even though permits and inspections were in order.  Also,  a permit was not obtained until well after the job was begun (we found this out 1.5 months into the project when work stalled due to lack of permits)
  • Communication on when they would be here and when work would be done was spotty at best. Once the job was started, vague answers were given about a completion date, but never an actual estimate.  They are, however, very prompt and highly communicable in requesting payment.
  • A drop ceiling was installed in the bathroom,  but several of the ceiling tiles have holes in the corner where light comes through and it shouldn't.
  • When the concrete was cut in the basement for the plumbing no protection was put up to prevent the dust from entering the whole house through the venting or the side of the basement they were not working on resulting in dust through the whole house .  They promised to clean this up,  but waiting 4.5 months to remove the dust was a little much so we've done it ourselves.
We weren't expecting perfection,  but we were expecting a professional job done in a timely manner and that is certainly not what we got.  We could continue to list the issues we've experienced,  but feel this is representative of our experience. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or want to see additional photos.  We would hate for anyone else to be in the same predicament as we are - living in tight quarters and having to hound our contractors to finish their job.

They were exceptionally expensive. I was worried and had to get the job done as I was scared of flooding. I would never use them again. The quality of work they did was very bad, and I had a very bad experience with them. The price we got from another company was half of what this company charged me. They were very responsive when it came to giving me a quote and taking the money. After that they took a month to finish the work. It was just a regular skylight, and they could not do that.
Response from Ashley Construction

"I am the owner of Ashley Construction. We did work for member's mother and she, recommended us to her Daughter. I am very sorry that member is not as happy with our work as her mother. We signed a contract with member on July 7 of 2010, she did not send a deposit payment as it states in our contract (Proposal) but, as requested we order the sky light anyway, and completed all work proposed. Member sent us a check in the mail a couple of weeks later. We at Ashley Construction warrantee all of our work, so if member has and problems with our quality all she needs to do is call Me. 856 794 5687."
