AJ Perri

During my annual maintenance checkup the technician showed me a picture of my backflow preventer which has started to let moisture escape as the area around the joint started to turn blue. He quoted a price of $744 to replace it. I thought that was too high so he gave me a 20% discount. The quote was now $596 (pre-tax) which I accepted. A few days later another technician showed up to make the repair. Since the first tech showed me a picture of the backflow preventer I assumed (incorrectly) that it was in some relatively inaccessible place inside of the furnace. Was I surprised when I saw that it was easily accessible on the piping outside of the furnace. The repair tech spent a little over 30 minutes replacing the part. The most difficult part was that it took him a few minutes to loosen the nuts a holding the part in place. Since it was threaded there was no soldering required. When it came time to pay up I asked him to break down the cost between parts and labor. I was informed that they only quote one price for a job and do not break it down. I paid him and then called the company to complain. I told them that based on the amount of work performed replacing a replacing a relatively inexpensive part my pocket "had been picked" and asked them to rectify this situation. I was informed that the best they could do was to offer me a 5% discount on the bill = $30 and give me a $25 gift card for future work! I told them that this was unacceptable and that once my new contract period expires they were losing me as a customer. Their reaction was that they were sorry I felt this way but they could do no more for me. My first mistake was not asking the tech who first saw the problem to point it out to me in the furnace. I then should have asked for a detailed estimate. My third mistake was not getting a competitive estimate. My biggest mistake was assuming I was working with a company that would never "price gouge" me for the work they performed. During a subsequent search on Angie's List I Found comments from 2013 where the price of the backflow preventer part should range between $25 - $40. The labor should be between $100 - $250 depending upon accessibility of the part and if soldering was required or not! I gave AJ Perri the option of making this right and they basically threw me a few crumbs and told me tough luck! The lesson learned is ALWAYS get a 2nd opinion on price BEFORE you proceed with any home repair.

They are high and expensive.

I purchased my furnace from them. They are very reliable. They show up on time. They do the work they say they're gonna do. They offer advice and tips along the way. They're very easy to get ahold of. I actually had to have people come out afterwards because the pipes were rusting, which meant that it was not a perfect fit, but I don't know if that was their fault. It may have been the manufacturer because sometimes I think the pipes leak, even when they're brand new. It could be something in the groove that was not fitting right or something, but they didn't know that until after they installed it. The price was good. They gave me a good deal.; they financed it for me. They found a financier that offered me a loan and they gave me some discounts. It wasn't like an outrageous monthly payment or anything. It seemed like a lot at the time but I've paid it off since then. The installers were fine. They also removed some asbestos in the surrounding area where the furnace was going to be installed, so they called in a different contractor to do that. I thought it would be all day like to take the asbestos out, but they came in, they set up all the liners to separate the air quality from the rest of the basement, and everything was done very professionally, sanctioned with the State and everything, and they got rid of it in a couple of hours and they left it clean. So they prepared it for the actual people that came to install the furnace. It was ready to go. It was done very quickly, it was clean, and it was done quickly. It was about 3 or 4 people that actually installed it. It was a big job and I trusted them to do the work because they had already been servicing my 40-50 year old furnace for the last five or six years before that.

They went through the whole house. I thought there would be a problem because I never paid for duct cleaning since I've been here, since 2009, and they only found like a little smidgen of dust. I was shocked. The price was kind of high but it was something that needed to be done. They're professional, they are very thorough how they work, and their response is always good. I can depend on A.J. Perri to do a very thorough check and the work. They're just great. The pricing is okay; it's a tad high but it's not the lowest and not the highest, but as far as the review, they do a good job in telling you what the problem is and how to fix it and what it's gonna cost.

There was no charge for this particular visit. They wanted to provide additional services other than what they did, which would result in a charge, and I thought the charge was a little bit too high. They're very reliable, they show up on time, and they do the work they say they're gonna do. They do offer advice and tips along the way, and they're easy to get ahold of.

He basically appeared to do everything, but I had to follow up with another company two days later for issues that came up. The AC panel was not properly closed and another one hour job he failed to do.

I would absolutely use them again.

I've been using them for a number of years. I have a service contract with them. They're very good. They can be pricey. They installed my system so I had a contract with them. They're usually there about 30 minutes.

I don’t think there was a charge. It was just an estimate. They didn’t need what said. They didn’t do any work, and the estimate was wrong. I would use them for certain things.

He was more of a pre-sales guy. Didn't know what was going on. Didn't know how to fix the heater. Made wrong recommendations.

They had to order the part but it was the same guy that came out and inspected it and did the repair.

It was very good.

They are prompt.  They are pretty good.

They suggested replacing the A/C. The guys who came to change the filters and all were fine. It was the high pressure sales man who used high pressure techniques to replace the system. So I was not satisfied. They is a lawsuit pending and a complaint. They come in August and I will allow them to come in and do that. But after that I will not use them again. Some of their service techs were fine. I don't have a problem with the techs. It was the sales man that came in that was not. Quality of service was good. Other than the sales man he was very unprofessional. 
The original tech that came in I had some work done and he recommended things. I was hesitant at times because I was not sure I needed to do things. After that I had another tech that came in and he did what he needed to do changed the filters and things he was fine. He did a good inspection. The first one that came in and started recommending things.

I've used AJ Perri for several years since they bought out the company I used to use. I've had two leaks since AJ Perri took over maintenance of my central air system, causing damage to my plaster ceiling. While the initial leak was no fault of their own, they addressed the problem and stood by their promise to repair the ceiling-- beautifully, I might add. The only problem is, I think they missed the real cause of the problem (a crack in the condensate drain line), so again this year I've had water dripping through the master bedroom ceiling. They have now replaced the cracked trap and will be once again repairing the ceiling. So I give them points for standing by their work, and coming promptly and being professional. It's just annoying that we could have avoided a huge headache if they had fixed it correctly in the first place. Also worth noting, AJ Perri is a large company, so it's usually a different technician every time they come. But on the plus side, they do respond very quickly.

We called AJ Perri on Thurs 7:15pm and the plumber arrived within 2 hours window as schedule. Pete (plumber) was professional and efficient. He walked through the unclog process and provided useful tips on preventive care afterward.

Spectacularly! During a time of high personal emotion (my wife and I lost most of our sentimental possessions, thank God we didn't lose everything like many Jerseyians) the professionals sent by AJ Perri were respectful and understanding. Let me put it this way. AJ Perri is one of three contractors whose number will never be deleted from my phones!

We have used them for a very long time. I would say thirteen years. Its a big company, and they are very well known. They installed our system in our old house for thirteen years. We didn't have any problems back then, and they just provide the service. They are servicing the air and heating system. They did a great job. Excellent price they gave us, and they did a great job. We use to have a contract with them, and they did a great job. They provide the service for air conditioning and heating system. We are in the contract for our system. I don't know if you call to just check the air conditioner system. I cant talk about that, because I don't know what they charge if you don't have an contract. It was $95 for an yearly charge. We didn't have any problems. They service the unit for the summer season, and before the winter starts in the fall. They are very responsible, very punctual, and very reasonable. They are very easy to reach, and when we need them when we don't have an problem, to schedule that appointment. If we need to change the appointment. My husband likes to have the first appointment in the morning, and they are very accommodating for us.
