"A Rich Tree Service, Inc. representative contacted the customer the day after the phone call came in, on January 13th at 12:45pm. He left a message and then proceeded to call two more times on January 16th at 1:30pm and January 18th at 2:45pm. It was not until the report was seen on Angieβs List that we looked into the issue further and found out through our investigation that we had an incorrect number for the customer. Although this is a rare occurrence, it does happen. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and hope customers in the future will try and contact us a second time; especially if they do not receive a call from a sales representative within 48 hours, since this is the policy of Rich Tree Service, Inc. except during times of major storms and extreme weather."
After getting several estimates and checking references, I signed a contract with Rich Tree Service in early October to remove a dead oak tree by my driveway.
At the outset everything seemed fine. They called me to set up a date to do the work. We agreed on a date at the end of October after I was to return from a trip. When i returned, I called them and got no return calls during November and most of December until they appeared out of the blue on Dec 22.
They did a neat job of taking down the tree but they did not grind the stump as the contract called for. The day after the tree was removed they called and asked if i was satisfied with the job to which I said no because the stump was still there. At first they said that they would charge me an additional $200 even tough the contract clearly said that the stump removal was included in the original price. Eventually they called back and said that they made a mistake and would grind the stump which they did the next day.
This time I called them and asked them why they did not remove the wood chips left from the stump grinding to which they responded that that was extra but it would be cheaper to get my landscaper to do it.
This was my first experience with having a tree removed and I learned a lot. It will also be the last time that I use Rich Tree Service.
"We understand the member's frustration and wish we could have done more to stick to our original schedule. Unfortunately, we had some unprecedented weather with Hurricane Irene at the end of August and then the snow storm at the end of October. These storms caused extreme damage and unfortunately, this did delay the member's job. We were forced to prioritize our calls and jobs, and where every customer is a priority at Rich Tree Service, Inc., those that had trees through houses and blocking driveways had to take priority. As far as the stump grindings, customers are told both verbally and in writing on the contract, that stump grindings are not removed from the site. Log and chip from the tree removal is removed unless otherwise noted but stump grindings are not. Although, Rich Tree Service, Inc. representatives can offer a price for this service, it is usually more expensive than a landscaper performing the service, simply due to the fact Rich Tree Service, Inc. hires only highly trained and qualified personnel due to the technical nature of work to be performed. This incurs a greater cost for both Rich Tree Service, Inc. and subsequently the customer; therefore the recommendation is given when customers inquire about a cost to have stump grindings removed, in an effort to keep costs down for the customer. We are always disappointed to hear when a customer chooses not to use us again, especially when price, quality, and cleanliness were all satisfactory. As stated prior, such a delay in having work performed is not typical of Rich Tree Service, Inc.; it was just unfortunate circumstances that two devastating storms hit New Jersey within a small time span."
The crew arrived promptly first thing Saturday morning (Nov. 5). They were courteous and friendly and got to work immediately. They removed the portion of the tree against the house, and all the related debris caused by the storm. After they finished the job, the yard looked pristine - like nothing happened.
I can't say enough about the great job Rich Tree Service did! A professional and courteous operation from beginning to end. Highly recommended!
