They carefully, thoroughly cleaned my chimney, which is used frequently to burn wood from trees we have chopped down.
They were impressed how lucky we were to have not had trouble for using the fireplace without regular cleanings. Must be because we only burn hardwood.
They gave us pictures of the cracks up top and an estimate for repair.

Marvin was very thorough in his work and extremely neat. He wore shoecovers, had blankets thrown near the fireplace to catch all the debris. He also inspected the chimney after climbing on to the roof and found out that a squirrel had dug out a hole in the chimney (which was missed during home inspection!?). He recommended what needed to be done. We had never used a wood burning fireplace before and he answered all of our questions patiently. Very nice experience. Highly recommend their services. The receptionist, Diane was also very professional.

I am always nervous about chimney sweep companies, but Blackbeard's was exceptional. Melvin took before and after photos to show us what he had done and he and his assistant were meticulous with their work. We have had many chimney sweep suppliers over the years and Blackbeard's was by far the best. They are honest, fair and professional. We highly recommend them!

Three sweeps arrived to do the work....they arrived when they promised, they charged with they quoted,

These people are absolutely horrible both as business people and human beings. They will literally browbeat you and call you names if you change an appointment or have questions. I have NEVER has such a horrendous experience with a service business. The woman that makes the appointments is repulsive and mean. They do simply and OK job and sell you that “no none” else can clean a dryer vent like them. There are many other businesses out there that can do a better job and are better people. If you do a price check they are MUCH more expensive than the competition and will do just as good of a job. Stay away from them!

"We did this work in 2010 and he loved our work and he called us in 2011 and canceled that appointment and made another appointment and canceled that appointment. He stood us up twice and now because we will NOT give him a discount any longer for wasting our time he is angry because he is NOT allowed to be our customer. This is clearly a sour grapes story. This person has been posting nasty stuff on the internet for over a year now. WE HAVE A FANTASTIC REPUTATION and I hope you will read the other 50 A's from real customers."

The office called the day before and confirmed the appointment. Marvin arrived promptly within the window I was given and immediately introduced himself and gave me his business card. I don't think I've ever had a contractor do that. He checked both the inside and outside of the house. He was careful in my house, including using surgical booties to cut down on tracking dust and soot through the house.
He tackled the hard job first which was the dryer vent cleaning. That required going into my unfinished (read 'no floor') attic. He did that without complaint. Our furnace is in the attic & I have had most contractors give me a hard time about having to go up there. So I really appreciated that Marvin understood and just got it done.
After that he inspected the chimney which didn't need cleaning.
I got a detailed billing statement which I can submit to our homeowners association for documented proof of work.
All together, I think he was in and out in less than an 90 minutes. Good job! I plan to hire them again next year.

The two guys sent out by Blackbeard's were both very professional and finished cleaning/inspecting the chimney in about an hour an a half. They took before and after pictures from top to bottom, inside and out. They showed the pictures to me along with explaining the where/what it all meant. We chose a cap and they were able to get one sent to them that night and then installed it the following day.
I do not think that our experience with Blackbeard's could have gone any better. We look forward to using them for all of our chimney needs in the future and I would not hesitate recommending them to others.

The entire process was very smooth. From the Blackbeard representative on the phone to schedule the appointment to the team which arrived at the door on time and with ID and confirming the names provided at the time the appointment was scheduled, everything was very professional. The team (two people) first inspected the work sites for safety issues, made recommendations, completed the work quickly and within the agreed upon price. The premises was left clean and undisturbed.
Everyone was friendly, accommodating and willing to explain every aspect of the process. I will use Blackbeard again in the future and will recommend them to anyone needing these services.

I spent about $180 may be on their services. They were very conscious of my house. They tried to keep it clean. They wore surgical booties on their shoes and they knew exactly what they were doing. They were wonderful. I think their price was pretty comparable. They were early and they were wonderful. I will use them again in the future. I had a gas fireplace in my home prior to this, and they explained about the fireplaces and how much it would be, and when I should be calling them out and how often. They were wonderful.

The chimney sweep who cleaned my fireplace and inspected my chimney was very friendly and professional. It happened to snow on that day so he took extra care and laid drop cloths to walk on. I told him that I had never used a fireplace before so he gave me advice and tips on how to start and manage a fire. I highly recommend their service.

I had a positive experience. They scheduled it well and showed up on time. They did the work neat and clean. Everything what I needed was done. The price was good and I got for what I paid. More important to me is that it’s done right than cheap. It’s got be a fair price and had to be done right and it was. The quality was very good. Their responsiveness and punctuality was excellent. I would be using them again during the spring time.

They did not want to come out and service us. They said that they did not have the time for them to come out and work on a wood stove. The person I spoke to on the phone was rude and talked over us. They said that they did not inspect wood stove chimneys although it says that they do. They are also only 5 miles away and they said that they did not service my area.

"Currently there are no available chimney sweeping appointments for the remainder of 2011 regardless of how close a customer is located to our office. The customers we have on our schedule take priority and each job requires a certain amount of time. We do not squeeze extra jobs in. As explained to this customer wood stove sweeps require access to the top of the chimney and our technicians will be taking a well deserved two week vacation after the holidays. Although we are not scheduling roof top work for January because of possible bad weather conditions we were happy to give this person a name of a company with an excellent reputation that she could try. I can't understand why this customer would give us such a bad rating because we could not get to her right away."

Very honest. The receptionist is very responsive and helpful. She did not mind when we had to reschedule due to power outage. She also asked me to describe our house and told us we did not need a dryer vent cleaning (and I was ready to pay for it!).
Recommended certain additional repair services, but did not pressure us at all to complete the additional work. Provided detailed written estimate. Other chimney companies we've had at the house have refused to provide written estimate and had a major attitude problem when we asked for a written estimate.

the technician arrived right on time and got to work. He explained everything that he did and did not rush the job. He inspected the fireplace to make sure that it was OK. He also inspected the outside of the house. I was very pleased with his attention to detail and pleasant demeanor.
