Deegan's roofing crew arrived promptly at 8:30 am on 5/10/13 and proceeded to remove two shingle roofs down to the wood. They installed the new Timberline shingles and new vents as agreed upon. Everything ground level was covered and protected. Upon completion of the roofing job, everything was cleaned up and the crew left by 5:00 pm. On 5/11/13, I discovered that a nail from the new roofing job had penetrated the line set tubing inside the attic disabling our AC. I immediately contacted Deegan Roofing and advised them of same. Mike Deegan came out to the house and examined the problem and indicated that this actually was not their responsibility as per contract and that the tubing was inside the house. However, Mike told me to have the problem repaired and forward him the bill. I did this and within several days of the repair I received full payment for this problem. The roofing looks absolutely fantastic and with several heavy rain storms and gusty winds since the installation everything has been good. I would absolutely recommend this company to everyone I know. They where extremely professional and responsive regarding the job.

They started on time at 7:30am and finished by dinner. Messy dirty filthy job not a bit left anywhere including the open attic which they covered inside with tarps! I was concerned about my gardens, they built a tarp framework over them, not so much as one tulip petal fell. Super job! I had had the chimney replaced several weeks before, and they wrapped it beautifully. The roof was very well done, and was high quality. Just what you would expect from Deegan! Brien helped work with FEMA small business and my insurance company, and was absolutely wonderful. Within one day, he was able to completely replace the roof.

We had a roof leak and had used Deegan in the past. They are relatively expensive but always provide excellent service. The roof was repaired without a problem. When we had a leak a few weeks later, they came over and fixed it with silicone without additional charge. No leaks since then. We would use them again (as have several others in the neighborhood).

The quality of the job was excellent, just be weary of the estimate thought if you get an estimate. We have discussed replacing all my soffits and assumed that he included that on the estimate when they came to do the work. They said no it was not included and they wanted to bill me extra. So, although the do a very good job, I would just be weary about who they speak to when they promise.

The entire job took one day. The roof was stripped. A new roof was put on. I hardly knew they were there. Everything was cleaned up. Hurricaine Sandy hit one week later. I called Deegan to come out and have the roof checked. They made a few minor repairs. Otherwise the roof was in good chape.

We recently bought a house and after about six months in the house we noticed a small leak around the chimney and in another small area. I received a competitive estimate from Deegan roofing where they told me exactly what needed to be done. In their eyes the entire roof was in very bad condition and I needed a brand new roof in addition to what needed to be done to the chimney. They offered me a five year warranty on a new roof, and the more I thought about it, this would be a good investment in my new home and one less thing to worry about. I could not have been more wrong about that! They came out and got the job down in a timely fashion. Although, they left a very large mess throughout our entire house from debris falling through cracks in the roof. In addition, within a few weeks we had new leaks in NEW LOCATIONS! At that time I would call and they would come right out to address the situation and do what they could to fix the problem. Although, a week would go by and another new leak in a new location would pop up in addition to the areas that we originally had around the chimney. All of this happened within a few months, and then Hurricane Sandy came. We did well overall, but we again had a had a few leaks. I went through the same process as before in trying to contact them to come and and it has been a nightmare. For the first 3-4 weeks after the storm their mail box was full and there was no way to get in contact with them. Once I was finally able to reach them, I left a message and they got back to me within a week or so. I explained that I was an existing customer that was having leaks on the NEW roof they they put on. They advised me that someone would be contacting me soon to set up a time to take a look at our problems. A week went by and no one called so I called back and left another message. Again, they returned my call and I explained to them everything that was going on and they said that someone would call me that day. It has been a week since that call and still NO ONE HAS CONTACTED ME!!!! I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt since I understand how busy they must be with the effects of Hurricane Sandy, but I could not be more displeased with the quality of work that we have received and the lack of professionalism that they are portraying to their existing customers. It would be greatly appreciated if Deegan would stand by their work and make sure that everything is in perfect working order. I am at a point now where I really have no choice , but to consider getting my lawyer involved. The work that they did back in June of 2012 has made our roof worse and is starting to cause damage to the interior of my home. The lack of quality and the fact that they will not follow through on their five year warranty is more than grounds to get a lawyer involved.

The owner came out to take measuremnets and then sent an estimate by email, but I had a few questions and could not get any answers. I called there four times and on the last call I said if no one calls me back today don't bother I will go with a different roofer, no one called for a week after that last call! i know they were busy with the storm but if I couldn't get a return call for a simple question I surely was not going to use them, what if you have a problem, how long would a return call take then. Needless to say I have had my roof replaced already by another company am very happy with the results.

Unfortunately, we cannot control the amount of damage Super Storm Sandy has caused. This has caused us to change our voicemail message from ‘we will get back to you shortly’ to ‘we are experiencing high call volume and we will get back to you as soon as possible’. For the past 2 ½ months, we have been working 7 days and as much as humanly possible calling customers back . We have been receiving on average 800-1000 phone calls PER DAY. We are only human and get back to our customers as quickly as possible. Obviously, we would not be this busy if we weren’t doing something right. But you don’t need to take our word for it. Simply check our Better Business Bureau ratings for references from homeowners. Please also call local township construction offices to check on our reputation.

A few shingles blew off my roof during hurricane Sandy and even though the company was swamped with calls and I wasn't even an existing customer, they came out the very next day after my call and showed up with shingles already in their truck and fixed my roof immediately even though the weather had already turned cold/snowy. I selected Deegan Roofing to do the job mainly due to the large number of roofs they had installed in my area and the excellent ratings given by Angie's List members. They even provided a large book with the names and addresses of customers (there were at least 50 within a 1/4 mile of my home), so I could do and quot;drive bysand quot;. An appointment was scheduled for August 29, pending weather. The team arrived at 7:30 am and completed the entire job by 4:30 pm. All scrap materials were promptly removed and the area was cleaned up. I found very few pieces of scrap material leftover (mostly hidden in bushes and trees) and, surprisingly, no roofing nails found anywhere on my property. I was very pleased with Deegan Roofing and would recommend them to anyone needing a new roof and/or skylights.

After reading very positive reviews on this contractor, we requested an estimate for a roofing job (installing a new roof over the old) for our townhouse. The owner was very responsive and professional, explained the job, and expressed a willingness to get to work soon. His estimate was the cheapest. We selected him. The problems arose when we requested insurance and other information required by our homeowner's association. We had to keep calling back because the only office employee who handled that end of the business was off, then didn't return a call...Well, we never heard from them again, after calling again and emailing. We hired another contractor who agreed to come down a little in price. I don't doubt the reviews I read that the company's work is very good, but we never got that far. I was willing to pay a little more for a company who was more responsive.

Member, March 9th 2012, you called our office to get an estimate for your roof. That appointment was set for March 14th between 2:00-2:30pm (the time most convenient for you). We typed and mailed you this estimate on Friday March 16th. We then emailed you a copy of the estimate on Tuesday, March 20th 2012 because your husband called requesting it via email. On Wednesday, March 21st 2012, your husband emailed us a request for a copy of our Certificate of Liability Insurance because your association required it. Our insurance company, Pinnacle Risk Solution, sent this out March 26th, 2012 via email and regular mail. We then followed up with (2) phone calls to see if you were still interested. We regret that you did not find this to be of satisfactory customer service.

I called Deegan on the advice of a contractor friend that actually had remodeled our bathroom and kitchen, but doesn't do roofing, siding, or guttering. Plus, we live in Scotch Plains, so since they were local, it seemed like a no-brainer. At first, I was very pleased. Even though they had their own damage to Hurricane Irene, Mike Deegan came out to do an estimate pretty much the first business day after the storm that our house was accessible. He gave us a verbal estimate that seemed reasonable ($1500), and rather than call anyone else, we agreed to go ahead with Deegan on the merit of our contractor friend's word. A few days later a written estimate arrived, I signed it and returned it immediately. Part of the damage to our house meant that someone from Deegan would need to be present when the electrician was doing his work, to replace the fascia board before the electrician could continue reattaching the electric lines along the roof line. Mike was aware of this, as he was present at the same time the electrician was doing his assessment. At that time, he said it would be no problem to send someone out just to do the fascia board as it was a 10 minute job, and just to call and let him know (ahead of time if possible) when they would be there to do the work. A few days later, the electrician let me know when he would be present to do the work, so I called Deegan immediately (on a Tuesday) and left a message for when I would need someone here. I called three times more during that week (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday), never getting a call back. Saturday came, the electrician showed, no one from Deegan did. I called once again, and actually spoke to a human, a very rude woman I didn't get the name of, who basically told me it wasn't her fault that other people weren't giving Mike his messages. I asked if someone could be sent out immediately, or if I could speak to Mike. She said she would have Mike call me back, but that no one could be sent out because everyone was already out in the field, having been assigned their schedules earlier in the week. At this point, the electrician and I were both very frustrated, as we'd both been part of the conversation where Mike said it would be no problem to send someone out on short notice (plus, I'd done my best to give PLENTY of notice). Instead of waiting for Deegan, the electrician did what he could, rigging up a temporary solution with the hope that Deegan would come and replace the fascia board at another time. Mike did call me back, hours and hours later - but we were out to dinner, and I didn't see the call. I called back the next day and left a message. Over the next two months, I called Deegan three more times, leaving messages each time. My last attempt at contact was through the contact form on their website, asking someone to please call or email me so I knew where we stood - would they be doing the work at all, including the siding and gutters, or should we just find someone else. To this date, I have never gotten a response. We found someone else via Angie's List who did all the same work Deegan estimated, for $700. They showed up 2 hours after I called them for the estimate, exactly when they said they would. They were back the next day to do the work, and it took all of 2 1/2 hours. I've wasted more like 8 hours just trying to sort this out with Deegan. Mike Deegan seems like a really nice guy to me. But his office staff were rude, and clearly don't know how to handle answering the phone, because I only ONCE spoke to a live human after my initial call out request - and I was calling during business hours. I would never recommend this company to anyone, no matter how nice Mike seemed initially.

this client called our office September 9th 2011 to get an estimate to fix the damage on her home. We scheduled an appointment for Monday September 12th at 10:30 am and followed up with a written estimate on Wednesday September 14th 2011. This estimate was for $2,700.00. (According to her report, we COMPLETED the work on August 29th 2011) On September 28th, we received her signed agreement to move forward with the work because her insurance company gave her the approval. The agreement was that the work would be done in one to two weeks *weather permitting*. However, Mr. Deegan said he would accommodate the client in setting up a date and time for us to meet her electrician in which she was to call our office to do (during this time, our voicemail was shutting off due to volume because of Hurricane Irene). On Friday, October 14th, 2011 our office did speak with her and we did leave a message for Mr. Deegan to call her back to set up a date and time (approximately 2 weeks and 2 days after receiving her signed agreement). Mr Deegan called her back that SAME DAY and left a message for her to return his call. She is claiming that she called us for over 2 months with no response and that she finally emailed us through our website. We, in fact, have records of this email. This email, that she claims was sent over 2 months after Oct 14th, was in fact sent Wednesday October 26th 2011 at 5:12pm, only 12 days after Mr Deegan left her a voicemail. In this email, she said 'the electrician realized that there was additional prep work that needed to be done by him and PSE&G before they could complete the part that Deegan was needed for'. So as of October 26th, she wasn't even ready for us to come and do this work. We followed up with a phone call the following day, Thursday Oct 27th, and left her a message to let us know when she would be ready to do this work. As of today, we have never heard back from her. Deegan Roofing would be more than happy to provide all of the paperwork that shows what she is claiming is false.

The roof looks great and I was very happy with the work, with 2 exceptions. First, they did not use stand-offs on their ladders and several of our gutters got bent from them carrying heavy bundles of shingles up to the roof. They did straighten out the gutters when they finished, but you can still see that they had been bent and I had to re-calk the inside corner joints on each side of the front door porch, as the flexing had opened up the old calk. Second, they broke the outer glass of one of our Wasco skylights when one of the workers dumped his bundle of shingles on the roof next to the skylight. They did order a replacement glass and did install it after it arrived, which took about 2 weeks. I later discovered that the plastic frame of the skylight was also cracked where the chain mechanism attached. I don't know whether the worker who replaced the glass didn't notice the cracked frame, or just didn't say anything. I did not ask Deegan to replace the frame, as I was able to reinforce it from inside (I glued and screwed a piece of wood in as a backer and used 2-part epoxy to cement the wood, frame, and attachment piece together. It seems to me to be a poor design on Wasco's part, as there was only a small metal plate backing up the plastic at the attachment point, which bears the stress when the skylight is open). So Deegan Roofing did replace the glass, all that I had asked, but they only sent 1 person to do the job, which was not easy on the slope of my roof, and it took three-and-one-half hours with me outside helping him. It would have been much easier on both of us if they had sent 2 workers.
Description of Work: Roof shingles had been applied to our new attached garage in 1987 and we had the old shingles (2 layers) on the rest of the house removed and replaced in 1980. The plywood had been ok in 1980 and none was replaced, but we had developed a leak above our dining room a few months ago and I had re-calked around our chimney and roof-top vent pipes in the past few years due to leaks. Deegan Roofing had been highly recommended recently by our original realtor and by a neighbor. They had better ratings than most in our area on Angie's List. We met with Mike Deegan, who appeared on time and was very knowledgable. He recommended a membrane roof on our upstairs dormer roof, as the slope is very slight and he pointed out several examples in our neighborhood where membranes had been installed instead of shingles on similar dormer roofs. Their quote matched the price we had seen on a 'Big Deal' advertised on Angie's List by another roofer for similar removal of shingles and application of new ones, so we signed the contract and work started the following week. We chose the shingle color by looking at other houses in the area that they had worked on. One homeowner told us he liked the job they did and that they were the lowest of 3 bids that he had gotten on his job. Deegan Roofing took one day and the following morning and replaced the plywood on the one section of roof where we had leaking. They re-flashed and put a new cap on the chimney, re-flashed the 2 vent pipes and the edges where the dormer meets the roof, used ice-guard membrane all around for the first section above all of the gutters (using tarred felt paper above that), and re-flashed our attic vent fan. They calked all nail heads where exposed at the ridge lines and calked in several other places where there was any potential for water to get in. They used tarps to protect the house and they cleaned up well, including the use of a magnet to pick up nails in the yard, our driveway, and the neighbor's driveway after they finished.
