The Kuken

We selected The Kuken for our (very simple) Kitchen and Powder Room updates because they were the lowest bidder. The design was nice, though could never seem to arrive at our house less than 3 hours late. We met with the owner: Mike Park, five times to finalize the details before our custom cabinets went into production. The first attempt to install (I took a day off for this) was pretty disappointing: the designer never showed, the dimensions were wrong, the mirror was missing, and there were fascia and trim pieces that apparently were never ordered. The designer came by a few days later and confirmed that she'd written down the wrong measurements on the order. The owner and the designer said they'd revise the order with the correct dimensions and would be sure to include the missing pieces. The second attempt to install (I took another day off for this) was a complete disaster: the designer never showed, a different installer arrived using the OLD plan/measurements, which meant the doors were still the wrong size, the fascia and trim pieces were still missing, the mirror arrived but it was also the wrong size and the hardware was wrong. I called the owner and designer twice (no answer) and left VM messages and sent an email outlining the issues. They never called me back. We heard from the Kuken a few weeks later and he wanted to come by again to take more measurements. At this point, we had had enough of their incompetence and lack of communication and I couldn't take any more days off of work. We wrote a letter to them requesting a partial refund, considering I took days off of work and they were still trying to work out the issues with the cabinets. Meanwhile, we asked for a Saturday installation for the third attempt, which was done without any significant issues. Now that the work is complete (12 weeks after production was complete), we heard back from the Kuken owner regarding our letter and he said a refund was out of the question because "tweaking" the product is part of their installation process. I've never seen a contractor with such abysmal customer service. This wasn't a case of a product needing to be "tweaked", this was a clear lack of attention, communication and Quality Control. We'll be telling everyone we know to avoid The Kuken - it's not worth the time, money or frustration.
