They are very reliable, punctual and complete quality work. They are a little high end on pricing but it's worth it. They also don't try to upsell. I recommend them to others.

When the heat went out this morning, Scott was over in the early afternoon to take care of the problem. He explained the problem, fixed it, and recommended a service schedule to keep the issue from happening again.

The person who gave the estimate and answered questions was very helpful and honest about what he had seen in the heating business over many years. The office staff was also very courteous. When they realized our old boiler wasn't usable and the temperature was falling, they rearranged their schedule to install the boiler earlier than they first proposed. The two men who did the installation were friendly and professional.

I am so impressed with this company. I called them on a tuesday morning and by end of day thursday my new furnace was up and running. Everyone I spoke to from the woman answering the phone to the first service guy sent out, to the designer who walked me through my options to the 2 guys who came and did the job were terrific. They were prompt, explained everything in detail, cleaned up after themselves and were reasonably priced. No question that I would reccomend them!

They came on time and finished the entire installation in one day as promised. They cleaned up after themselves reasonably well (I just has to vacuum a bit). The a/c works extremely well and is amazingly quiet. (Just in time for our current heat wave!) We are very pleased with the result, and anticipate being just as happy in the winter when we use these for supplemental heat. They did exactly what they said they were going to do and were a pleasure to deal with. The price was competitive based on the scope of work. We highly recommend them.

Estimate was thorough and well thought out, with various options brought to our attention.(At Whalen & Ives recommendation, we actually went with a more expensive, but more energy efficient, unit that qualified for a rebate, so the cost difference was minimal.)Service rep was clear and very helpful. We had many questions, and he answered every one with confidence and honesty.While Whalen & Ives ultimately was the least expensive quote (we had 5), we made our decision on confidence as well as price.All work was done on schedule as promised.Workers were extremely neat.Everything was tested thoroughly and to our satisfaction.At the conclusion of the job, one of the workers explained virtually everything I would have to know about the system.(Fortunately very little.)

They did a good job. My only issue was that they came with a wrong boiler. When they came to install it, they brought a wrong one; but they fixed the issue. They came back the next day with the right one. I had to take two days off from work because they got the wrong one for the first time. They had kept the wrong picture of my basement in the file; it was somebody else's picture.

I called because one zone of my heating system wasn't working. The men came to the house on time, explained the system to me and showed me that there was nothing wrong with our unit, but a valve was shut off to that zone. They knew I had very little knowledge of how the whole system worked and could have ripped me off, but they didn't. They have my trust and all of my future business!!!

During one of the hotest weeks of the summer, my central air stopped working. It made all the appropriate sounds that it was working but the house was only getting hotter. I called Whalen and Ives at 7:00pm on Sunday night. At 8:00am Monday morning, Scott returned my call and said someone would be able to get here early afternoon which I thought was great. At 8:10am he called back and said that if now was ok, the technician could be at my house in 15 mins or so. He arrived in 15 mins. spent about 20 mins talking to me and checking the system and 15 mins after that, he was replacing a part and 5 mins after that, I could feel the cool air coming through the vents. Whalen and Ives so far exceeded my expectations that I've told several friends and neighbors about them. Although I've used Angie's list several times, this is the first time I've felt compelled to right a review. What a pleasure dealing with Scott and his service man.

I called Whalen and Ives late in the afternoon about a problem with the remote and on-unit controls for my 8 year old Samsung split-unit ductless air conditioner. When I first called, the person who took the call was unsure whether they could repair this type of unit but promised to have Scott Ives call me back as soon as he returned to the office in the morning. First thing next morning Scott called and asked me to describe the problem. He indicated that yes, they could work on this type of unit and he could have someone to the house by 1:00 pm that same day. Joe and Rob arrived 20 minutes early, and spent 45 minutes thoroughly checking out the AC and its remote. They stabilized the loose end of the control panel on the main unit, and suggested that I 'sync' the remote with the main unit whenever I replace the batteries (which I had done recently). They then explained what they had done and made suggestions about what to look for if any other problems showed up. Both Joe and Rob were pleasant, professional, and thorough, and the bill was entirely reasonable. I was so impressed by the quality of their service I called Scott immediately after they left to compliment him on the quality of his staff. I will certainly use them again if I have any additional problems with the unit they serviced today or with my whole-house AC unit..

After getting ripped off by another HVAC company whose name I won't mention but they are available ALL WEEK, I checked Angie's List and found Whelan & Ives. All of the positive reviews are well-deserved. Our central air conditioner just dropped dead (even though it had been replaced not 3 years ago by the aforementioned unmentioned company for several thousand dollars). Whelan & Ives showed up on time and instead of saying I needed a whole new $3000 unit like the aforementioned unmentioned HVAC company did, I was told they would replace one part and see if that worked first. Which they did, and it did. (They warned that the unit may eventually have to be replaced, but so far so good.) Not sure about the price...it may have been more like $800. Seemed a bit steep but I wanted the refrigerant replaced...did not realize how expensive it was! My only quibble is that you can't make an appointment...they call to say they're coming. Saturdays are overtime. This is difficult since I live by myself, and am usually at work M-F. If you are at home most of the day, it's great though. They were professional, polite and friendly and would not hesitate to use them again.

Very professional and all work completed as per our contract.

They were competent, punctual and did everything that they said they would. I did not need more than the usual follow up. I will use them again.

Was introduced to Whalen & Ives in 2008 for basic A/C service. The technician put a great deal of effort and care into keeping my 35 year old central A/C running at a more than fair price. Have used them since to replace the old A/C (it was time to go with an energy efficient solution). While I had some issues with the installation, the dedication by by the installation services manager helped a lot, and the unit operates beautifully. Also used them for regular furnace maintenance... price was lower than the competition, and service was thorough... and the technician showed me what he was doing every step of the way. Would definitely use them again / recommend them.

Although it was a small fix it was quick big to us since without their knowledge and quick response we would be without heat.

I thought I was going to need immediate replacing of my central air, they cleaned it and fixed it. I saw this guy work very hard for his one hour of work. They came in below the estimated price. I will end up going to them to replace my system next year.

They came out on a Sunday and got it running, but not fixed. Came back twice more after contacting the maker of the 17-year-old system to find out what to check that might be causing the problem when they couldn't find it. Terrific service.

I HAVE ONLY USED THIS COMPANY FOR ONE YEAR. THEY WERE RECOMMENDED BY THE CONTRACTOR AND THEY ALSO INSTALLED THE UNIT. WE ARE TRYING TO MAKE THIS UNIT AS EFFICIENT AS POSSIBLE, SO WE ALL ARE TRYING DIFFERENT ADJUSTMENTS. SO FAR, THEY ARE OKAY.

MY OVERALL EXPERIENCE WITH THEM WAS VERY GOOD. I THOUGHT THAT THE PRICE WAS FAIR. THE RESPONSIVENESS WAS GOOD AND THEY ALWAYS SHOWED UP ON TIME. THEIR PROFESSIONALISM WAS GREAT AS WELL.

I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THEM. THEY KNEW WHAT THEY NEEDED TO DO AND CAME AND DID IT. THEY GOT THE WORK DONE QUICKLY. THEY WERE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE.
