We have a 1950s home & selected Renewal by Anderson based on a friends referral & after contacting other well known window companies. Renewal is by far not the least costly, but we feel they make a superior product & the installation was professionally done. The installation was scheduled two months later because the windows were custom made due to the age of our home. The workers were prompt & effficient & cleaned up all materials inside & out. The sales rep. came by after the work was completed to check & see that we were statisfied. Needless to say, we were very satisfied with the job & with the professionalism of the sales rep. & we would highly reccommend Renewal by Anderson to others without hesitation. The work we had done was replacing all the porch windows consisting of 6 double hung + 2 gliders, 1 double casement in the kitchen & 1 double hung bedroom window in total costing $12,000.00. We were so pleased that we scheduled replacement of all other windows through-out the house the following year including a living room bay window, 5 double hung & a double casement window. After all the windows were replaced, it made a difference in keeping the home warmer in the cold north-east winters.
Description of Work: Replacing all the porch windows consisting of 6 double hung + 2 gliders, 1 double casement crankout in the kitchen & 1 double hung bedroom window.

Renewal is a little expensive but one person is responsible for the whole thing and that was worth it to me. The product is excellent.

I love the windows. They train their contractors who put them in. They were very professional and overly friendly. They were very neat and they did a great job. They asked for our inputs several times.

Overall, the salesman was very pushy and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. He used every sales tactic in the book to try to convince me to buy windows from him the night he was here. He offered one-time specials that were voided as soon as he walked out of the house. The icing on the cake was when he made a phone call to his boss 2 hours into the presentation while sitting at my dining room table saying "the buyers don't have enough money saved up to buy the windows". How insulting. He wanted to charge me $32,000 to replace 16 windows. $32,000 and he expected me to sign the papers that night? Not to mention during the presentation they had all these internet printouts of lawsuits that Pella windows is going through, mud slinging isn't the best sales tactic. All in all, from everything I've read these windows are good quality but the price you pay and the sales pitch you go through to get them isn't worth your time.
Description of Work: Inquired about getting a window consultation from Anderson via the renewal by Anderson internet page. Received a phone call to set up the appointment and salesman came to my house to give a demo and estimate. I did not go with Renewal by Anderson to replace my windows.

The representative who came by was very friendly and certainly knew what he was talking about. The windows seem to be of a good quality. They are a "composite" of vinyl and wood that is mixed together and extruded into what appears to be a very strong material. I have heard that since it is technically vinyl, that it does have the same bad properties of vinyl. I would suggest you do research on your own in this and come to your own conclusion since I do not know for sure. The visit was way too long. They asked for 90 minutes and we were 2 hours in before we got to numbers. This is standard practice so prepare yourself. The cost is out of this world. Windows are over $1000 each. This is where the shady stuff happens. The rep will tell you that if you buy the windows that second, you will save extra on each window. I do not like that so we decided to move on. I did some research the next day I joined Angies List and I found several contractors who can install high quality windows for thousands less and will not pressure you. If you choose to use Renewal, I believe you will get a very high quality product. However, look around a bit before calling them. Make sure your homework is done so you can take advantage of the discount with confidence.

They were exorbitantly expensive. I wanted to use them because I knew they would do the job well. I'm sure I could've done the job for half the price. The job wouldn't have been of the same quality, but I could've done it cheaper. I just didn't want to shop around. They sent a salesperson over that talked to me for about an hour. She didn't really know what she was talking about.

The representative was friendly and professional. From our point of view, the problem was with price. The rep quoted three prices, one good only for the day of the estimate, one good for two weeks, and a third up to one year. The quotes were $3,422, $4,972, and $5,677 higher, respectively, than the price quoted by a competing company. The competing company's windows are rated better in quality in Internet reviews.

I hesitantly called after reading the reviews. I only got as far as trying to schedule a consult. They will not give an appointment unless all homeowners are present. This is very difficult due to my husband's work schedule and our weekends are pretty booked. I can understand why they may prefer to have all parties present but after having 2 other companies come to our home and give consults and quotes I know that I am perfectly capable of relaying to my husband all pertinent information. We have had many projects done to our home including window replacement and having only one of us present to meet with contractors has never been an issue. Their insistence about this made me feel, as most reviews have indicated, that they are all about a hard sales pitch.
Description of Work: We did not have a consult with this company. I only go as far as being on the phone trying to schedule an appointment.

A good friend of mine recommended this company so I called to have an estimate. I made the appointment and they confirmed both my husband and I would be at the appointment and I said yes. The day before our scheduled appointment, they called to confirm. I said yes, I would be there. They asked about my husband and I said he couldn't be there (scheduling conflict with sports event for our son) but I could handle it. They refused to come and insisted on rescheduling. I was so angry - the only reason they would do this is for a hard-core sales pitch and after reading a couple other reviews that was confirmed.

I was very happy with them. They removed all the old windows and storm windows and they installed the new windows. They did it all in one day. We spent about $16,000. The windows were expensive but they were of a high quality. The team that installed the windows was very professional. They knew what they were doing. I will use them in the future.

I recently called Renewal by Andersen and spoke with two very professional and pleasant sales assistants. Based on this experience, I scheduled an appointment to have them look at replacing all of the windows at our house. They warned me that the sales pitch could be an hour. I didn't really believe we needed that much time and said as much, as my wife and I had thoroughly researched what we wanted and the price range we would be willing to pay. I believed we could get the 10,000 foot pitch and get into the specifics about my needs relatively quickly (within a half hour). The salesman showed up and was very pleasant in the beginning. Things deteriorated rather quickly, from there as we spent the first hour and change enduring a lesson on the history of windows (including at least 30 minutes on a type of window he started out by saying we couldn’t even use). We tried repeatedly to explain what we wanted and at one point even clearly, but politely, asked him to cut to the chase. He insisted on ignoring us and continuing with the pitch. I am used to salesmen at my office, so the bluntness of the pitch didn't bother me, so much as the fact that the salesman ignored the atmosphere change and our attempts to speak about what we actually needed as opposed to what he wanted to sell. I get that he has a job, but if someone like that came into my office, they would be escorted out very quickly. This continued to the bitter end, when he quoted the price and offered to step outside so we could think it over. We talked about it and quickly agreed we needed to think about it further. This was based on the unwillingness to change tactic to what we actually wanted and the general rudeness of the salesman. We let him come back in the house explained we needed to think about it and he became very aggressive and visibly angry. This was after he said several times that Andersen takes a ‘No’ as graciously as a ‘Yes’. I finally explained to him that while I agreed on the value of high quality windows (I still do and have since invested in ones), the return on investment, for the price he quoted, in our current house would probably not be realized. The coup de grâce was when he insisted on “clocking out” from our dining room (an additional 10 minutes to the two and half hours he already spent in our home), when we have perfectly clear cell reception from our driveway. After further research, I came across similar experiences on the net but I wanted to make this available to a broader audience. I am unable speak to the quality of the work but was surprised at the unprofessional manner and inflexibility of the pitch. Overbearing salesmen are a staple at my work; I don't need them in my home. Salesman arrived at appointed time with various sales props, windows, composite etc. He was very nice and very professional and well trained at positioning the product. We had already installed 4 Woodright Anderson replacement windows and, quite franky, I thought we would be talking about the same windows. However, the sales man knew nothing about any of the other Anderson Windows in our home but was there to push the Renewal Windows. He gave a 90 minute sales presentation, but would never mentioned the price. I pushed him several times to get the price, but he kept moving to the "value" side of the sales pitch. When he finally gave us the price it was very high. These windows were twice the price of the Anderson Woodright windows, although, they are excactly the same window except they use a fabricated laminate vs. real wood! The price for 8 windows was well over $13,000 which, to us, extremely excessive. The other windows were half the cost and actually, nicer windows with the real wood trim, When we told him no, he became irritated and rude and said the sales call cost the company $500 and he expected we would buy something. We told him no, this price was excessive and we had no intention to pay this kind of price for the same window. I gather this is an employee owned division of Anderson, but I am someone what dismayed at how they push the product vs. the other division. My husband and I were completely fooled at the Anderson booth at the home show and did not appreciate the bait and switch routine.
Description of Work: Visited Anderson booth at recent homeshow. We were looking for additional Anderson replacement windows and thought we should go directly to the manufacturer instead of through a middle man. People at booth suggested Renewal by Anderson and arranged an appointment. However, they had several types of windows at the booth and we thought the sales person would have knowledge of all windows, not use the renewal windows.

The salesperson who came out was on time and very good. He was nice and very thorough. He was also very knowledgeable and very professional. We didn’t appreciate the car salesman type of promotion of the product, though. We were not expecting that. The windows were very pricey, but it did look like a good product.

I'm not commenting on the actual window quality (I did not buy from them) just the quote experience. First off it took me 4 times to meet with them - they cancelled on me three times! The first appointment time I actually took off from work because they were not forthright with the fact that they have evening appointments. My experience setting up an appointment should have been sufficient warning about the salesman. I had a feeling of the way the sales pitch would go as I had similar sales pitch from a house painting company and from a company that places French drains in basements. The high pressure sales method rubs me the wrong way. The pitch starts out with the schedulers who insist that all owners be present during the meeting. I told them (truthfully) that my wife was staying with her family taking care of a sick parent and was not in the area so they begrudgingly allowed me to schedule. My salesman arrived on time and provided a lengthy presentation. Though I consider myself knowledgeable about home products and I did learn some things. However the salesman took every opportunity to slam other products as worthless. My salesman was repeatedly misleading what he called “the Obama Credit”, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. He made it sound like only Andersen windows can get this credit as they, as the salesman contends, are the most energy efficient. As I am a CPA working in the tax field I knew this not to be true. I had gotten a quote for 10 higher end windows with the same services Andersen was to provide and the salesman exceeded my previous quote by about 40%. I got another quote subsequently and it was 40% cheaper. Both of the other quotes were for similar quality windows to the Andersen product. The Andersen salesman told me I was getting a $1,250 discount off of the normal price. Here’s the best part – I had to make a decision right then that evening or I’d lose the $1,250 discount. So they give you a high pressure sales pitch with inflated prices and you have to decide right then. I told the salesman to leave.

Everything went extremely well. They were very professional and in wonderful communication with me from the sales presentation to the installation planning. They were wonderful carpenters, and their follow-up was incredible. They called to make sure everything went well, and even sent me a gift package with cleaning supplies. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for windows. They may be a little more than a big box store, but the quality of the product, the professionalism of the company, and their warranty make it well worth the cost. If I had the money, I would have them do all of the windows in my home. They are like old-world carpenters, and are very talented in all the work they do. They are always concerned about their reputation and how well they are doing, and welcome feedback. Even when I call on the phone, they are all wonderful, from the salesperson to the installers to the receptionists. I have had some problems in the past with contractors, and would be absolutely confident recommending them to anyone looking to have their windows replaced. I couldn't be happier with the work they did, and would absolutely love to recommend them.

We scheduled an appointment and informed them that the house was empty and we were planning on moving in after having some work done on the house (including windows). The day before the appointment my wife received a phone call saying that they will not give an estimate if there is no furniture in the home. They said they need a table and chairs in order to do a presentation. My wife told them we didn't mind standing and using the kitchen counter for the presentation. She was then told "You expect our men to stand??? Why don't you call back in 6 weeks when you move in and have furniture?" My wife then requested a supervisor and was told the same thing. So she said "If it's so important why doesn't the person bring a bridge table and chairs?" At that the customer service rep told my wife she was being "rude." The reason we wanted the work done before we moved in is because we have two small children and didn't want the disturbance. Evidentally, the comfort of their estimators far surpasses the comfort of their customers and small children.

The product seemed to be very good, but we felt pressured by the salesman to make a decision right then. He offered us a small deal that he said would not be available to us even in a few hours or a day. We also felt the estimate was outrageous for replacement windows, $30,000 for our colonial home.

They started at 8:30 and finished at 2:30. There wasn't a drop of debris anywhere. I was shown how to operate everything. I was shown how to apply the silicone, after I stained it. They were professional. I was supposed to remove my blinds, but I was having trouble with my arm. They told me not to worry about it and they took care of it for me.
Description of Work: Renewal By Anderson replaced nine windows for me.

I visited the Cranford showroom to inquire about windows for a major renovation project. I had specifications for new construction windows in another area of the house and asked for something comparable in quality and price for replacement windows. One sales rep gave a vague overview of the products and set up an appointment for a home visit. Another rep showed up and never gave a business card. I asked repeatedly for a price and instead got a 2 hour song and dance about the quality of the windows and installation process. The rep's compared the Renewal by Anderson product as being twice the cost of replacement windows. When I finally got the price, it was four times the cost of vinyl replacement windows, and three times the cost of the new construction windows I specified. A single basement window slider would be $1000. The sales rep wasted two hours of my time with a presentation that was based on false pretenses over an expected price range. The company's products may be good, but the sales tactics of this Anderson-owned division are questionable. The rep even made disparaging remarks about other Anderson products.

We needed to replace the shoddy windows used to remodel our house before we bought it. After some exploration, we contacted Renewal by Anderson. They are very organized and systematic, and sent a well-informed and personable salesman. They do use use 'used-car-style' sales tactics -- though considering the rest of the industry, their salesman was pretty restrained. We were able to negotiate the price down somewhat (with the usual 'special offer expiring tomorrow' and 'this deal is only available today' tactics). From that point, the process was superb: the windows were ready even earlier than they predicted, they were happy to schedule to fit our needs, and the (>20 window) installation took only a day. The crew was clean, professional, and on top of every step (though they did nearly put two windows in the wrong openings -- but I know they would have corrected it). There were no extra charges or last-minute shenanigans, although they had to rebuild a number of window frames (as their measuring guy had told me, so I knew there would be some painting after they were done, in advance). We chose this service because we (1) trusted the quality, and knew that it would increase the house's attractiveness if we ever want to sell, (2) because the one-company one-day installation fit our needs. On both counts, they came through. The only drawback is price. They _are_ expensive -- but you get quality windows, installed in a day, with confidence they'll last. And they even take credit cards, so I could rack up a lot of extra miles from the package!
Description of Work: We needed to replace (almost) all of the windows in our house, that had been remodeled in about 2000 using cheap vinyl windows that were leaking and condensing. We wanted to work with one company that would do the job promptly with no risk of contractor malingering or coordination problems. We also wanted a good guarantee, and a brand that would increase the future sale value of our house. A total of 24 windows, some quite large picture windows, were replaced.

Everything went very well. It was very windy the day they came to do the job. So that the house didn't get too cold, they shut the door to the room that they worked in. They set up their equipment outside, so not to mess up the house. They cleaned up inside and outside before leaving, no mess left behind. I just love my new windows, I was talking so much about how good they were, my son thought I was getting carried away.
Description of Work: Needed to replace some old drafty windows. Twelve windows, with screens, were installed, same day. All windows were installed with insulation and vinyl frames from outside. Inside wood framing with silicon grout. The windows are super, no drafts and no frost or condensation like the old windows. All old glass and screens removed and everything was cleaned up before they left. Originally they were contracted to replace other windows too, but in our renovation plans for the house, some of the windows would not be there anymore. I did not get any complaints from them. They just removed them from the job and adjusted the payments accordingly. They were easy to work with.

I was very impressed with Anderson Windows. They were so responsive and courteous. I was so surprised that they would replace the windows for free after all of these years. I didn't know the warranty lasted this long. This was a very big deal to us and it saved us a lot of money. I would highly recommend Anderson Windows.
Description of Work: Anderson Windows replaced 7 large double hung windows after we had them for 15 years. The problem with the windows was that air pressure was escaping and not getting back in, so this was creating condensation on the outside of the windows. The windows were covered by warranty, so there was no charge for this service.

In general, Renewal by Anderson was great! From the initial visit, to measuring, to installation, to follow-up, they were professional, efficient, courteous, and very consumer friendly. We looked at a lot of windows from many different companies and the Renewal window came out on top. They are not inexpensive but you get what you pay for! Even our contractor, after inspecting them with a very critical eye, was impressed with their quality and attention to detail. The measuring process was painless and the turnaround time for production was just as they told us, about 6 weeks. Once the windows were delivered, they were installed over a 3 day period. The installers were very polite and neat. It was obvious they were well trained and went to great efforts to make sure that everything was installed properly. When finished, they took the time to explain and demonstrate how all the windows worked. Overall, the process went much better than we could ever of imagined!
Description of Work: Renewal by Anderson replaced all the windows in my house and provided new construction windows where needed. The service included measuring prior to the order and installing the windows as well.
