We had an excellent experience from beginning to end.  We made the decisions to replace 80% of the windows in our home.  Within days of making the decision, someone from Renewal came to measure the windows.  Each window is made specifically for each window.  We were told that the windows would be in approximately one month.  The windows were completed within this time frame.  The morning that the windows were installed, an entire crew arrived at our home and they worked in a neat and efficient manner to complete the work in a 7 hour time frame.  All debris was removed and our home was left in immaculate condition.

We received a coupon for 20 percent off and made an appointment.  Anderson was very specific:  both homeowners had to be present and we had to agree to give them a full 90 minutes for their presentation.  We received an email confirming the appointment.  I am a busy professional and I work many Saturdays, and so a Saturday without work is very precious to me.  This Saturday was a gorgeous sunny day, and my wife and I waited dutifully for the person from Anderson to show up, but he/she never did.  We called the company and find out that they had tried to call us the day before and since they were unable to confirm with us, they cancelled the appointment.  But the appointment was already confirmed!  Not only that, but not even a courtesy of an email or a phone call to say "since we didn't hear from you, we aren't showing up."  The message is obvious:  Anderson values the time of its salespeople more than it values the time of its customers.  My time is valuable to me, and I won't do business with a company that is so cavalier about wasting my time.
After this rude treatment, I did some more research.  I read the fine print on their coupon, and you get the discount only if you sign on the spot.  What kind of tactic is that?  Obviously they don't want you to do any comparison shopping.  Since we called the 800 number on their coupon, they know we have the coupon and they will just adjust the price accordingly.  It's a fake discount.  They demand that both spouses be at home and 90 minutes of your time in order to make a hard sell.  Why is a hard sell necessary?  Anderson has an excellent reputation for the quality of the windows, so the hard sell is to get you to pay a ridiculous price for the windows.  I see what others have paid and I just shake my head.  You cannot justify paying double or triple the price because of quality, and the energy savings will never amortize the cost.
We will get our windows somewhere else.

Of the windows replaced, three were original to the house (1960's) and five were vinyl windows that had been installed about ten years ago.  The vinyl windows were poor quality and the installation was defective.  I went with this company in part because I have had good experiences with Anderson windows and doors.  I saw the company at a local home show.  The product looked good on display and it was real Anderson, not a similar-named alternative. That was something I was concerned about.  We made an appointment for the sales rep to come to the house.  The sales rep showed up on time. He was a nice guy, but I was really turned off by the hard sell and the three hours it took.  To get the best price we had to commit then and there (while he was at our house).  When I heard that, my first reaction was to show him the door, but my wife really wanted the windows done.  I thought the price we got for the windows was really high, but I have since moderated on this.  It took a month for the windows to come in and be ready for installation (over Christmas).  The installation was quickly scheduled (it was in their off season possibly (January)).  I was really pleased with everything else after the sales pitch.  The installers showed up in the morning on time.  The crew was very pleasant, polite, and neat.  They started work and did not stop until finished.  They did not have to remove much of the inside trim.  The outside was completely redone, as it needed to be in our situation.  The reason I have moderated on the price issue is because of the quality of the work on the installation.  With the old vinyl windows I was starting to get water intrusion.  Since this installation, no water.  The aluminum trim is neat and tight.  The sills are pitched away from the windows so the water drains away.  The caulk is very neat and there are no gaps.  The installation crew did a very good job, almost excellent, and they cleaned up very well.  I did not find any screws or nails on the ground afterward.  The windows all operate smoothly.  My wife and I are happy with the windows and installation.

The crew showed up at 9:00 am with  all of the materials, the windows and everything they needed to complete the job. They came into my house, explained what they were doing, how long it would take and if there were any questions I had or additional info I needed to convey. They began demolishing my old windows and patio door immediately and worked through the day without stopping. I was very pleased.
Andersen renewal windows are different from other windows. There is no cutting down to the rough opening. The windows fit within the existing framework. No siding is removed, no reframing is necessary. Because it fits within the structure, you lose the existing sill and the opening around the window. We now will hang our blinds on the outside of the mount. You lose an inch or two of the glass size as well. No big deal, I can live with that. The materials used in the window is first rate, a composite which is very strong, rigid and most of all, insulating. It must increase the R value of the window by 50% over aluminum windows, and the rigidity by 100% over vinyl. The trim around the windows is also first rate and insulated, sealed and picture perfect.
The other thing about these windows is this: Andersen guarantee's the windows for a specific time. The Renewal folks extend this to a LIFETIME guarantee. All in all, a fantastic deal!

The work was done in 2 days!  And most all the work was done from the outside of the house which was a relief because we have custom interior moldings around the windows.  The service was excellent (including wearing "booties" when walking on wall-to-wall cream-colored carpeting) and we've had many compliments on the look of our windows including one by a friend of ours who is a home builder!  Without a doubt, if we had not had the replacement windows installed, we would have had broken panes of glass (single pane, 35 year old wooden windows) during Hurricane Sandy.  And getting rid of our old, dirty, leaky  storm windows was a blessing.  This winter, our home has seemed warmer and less drafty all around.  I am planning on using Renewal by Anderson again to replace a couple of exterior doors on our home in the next few months.

The project started in about October or November. It's been lousy service. Nothing has worked out. The windows they recommended failed immediately. One of them broke, which they say is a fluke. If you don't call them and bug them, they don't follow up. They was clean up they were supposed to do after the window broke and it took them awhile to come clean it up. We had to keep calling them. They're not reliable, timely and they don't follow up.

- After much trouble was finally able to get an appointment.  Really a
problem.  Even after scheduling the appointment, they called back and
confirmed for a different time and were not flexible about changing it
back.
- Cost was prohibitive.  7 total windows -- if I signed that day
$9,000.  If I waited, over $10,000.  We're talking about 3 small
sliders, 1 small picture, one large picture and 2 cranks.
- Included the cost of termite inspection, that isn't by law required,
but they said it was.  (Note Pella does tell you about the requirement,
but performs it free.)
+ I had signed initially and they accepted the rescission agreement (to cancel) with no problems.

Renewal by Anderson of Central NJ replaced all the windows in my home.  While the cost was very high, the windows are really nice and the transferrable warranty adds to the value of our home.
I knew when we had our in home demo that I wanted the windows.  It was just a matter of getting to the right number.... If you're not already sold on the windows, I could see how the demo could be intimidating since they require your decision right then and there to lock in the price.  It's a big commitment, but if you have the money to do it, DO IT.
The installation went well and they completed all the windows in 1 day.  We have narrow (squat) windows across the front of the house and very large windows across the back of the house.  The only complaint I have about the install is that the workers gouged the window frame on one of the large windows in the back.  It is eye level and sticks out like a sore thumb.  Otherwise, everything was done perfectly.
The only compalint I have about the windows themselves are that we purchased the largest windown they make for the back of the house.  Because they are so large and heavy, the fold down option for cleaning really isn't practical and it is just easier to clean the windows from the outside.  Also, sometimes (on one of the large windows) when you close it, the lock won't line up to secure and (again) I think because the window is so large and heavy.... We have the warranty so I'm not worried about it.  If it is a problem, I will call them to come and fix it.
Overall, it was a good experience and I would do it all over again.

A sales representative (Kurt)arrived first to discuss my needs and the companies solution and to imform me of the process. There was no pressure to buy any particular product but left the decision to me. Another professional arrived to take exact measurements of my window openings. The windows would be manufactured to these specific measurements. Next, the schedular informed me of the exact installation date, which I was able to select. The installation team arrived right on schedule and worked all day to correctly install and finish off the trim and moldings. Everything was cleaned up after the job was completed

I called this company despite the recent reviews because of a personal referral.  Unfortunately, I couldn't even schedule an appointment.  After providing all the of necessary information, we discussed times.  They would prefer BOTH owners of the home be there fore the 90  minutes presentation, etc.  With two working parents and three very active children, schedules do not permit both of us to be home unless its 10pm at night.  I stated if that was a deal breaker to get an estimate, fine and I would call someone else.  I was told no, its preferable but that it was ok.
The next question was when during the day was I available.  When I repeated that I work during the day only evening were available, I was told "I am sorry, but we reserve weekends and weeknights for those appointments where both owners can be available, is there a day off you can be available"  Seriously?
I don't need to work to get a fee quote.  The product is outstanding and is 50% sold before the sales person gets in the door.  Extremely disappointing experience.

We called Renewal by Anderson for an estimate to replace all 23 double hung windows in our 1920’s home. The salesman arrived promptly at the appointment time of 7:00pm on a weekday. He went though a hour long spiel about the quality of the product, comparison to competitors, etc. He was professional, cordial, and friendly, it all sounded really good. He then spent about 20 minutes going around the house measuring the windows to be replaced, and another 20 minutes doing all the calculations for a price. It all sounds great so far, right?
At this point he turned into the classic stereotype of the high-pressure salesman. He spent another 20 minutes reviewing the quality of the product, etc. So we are over 2 hours in (9:00pm) at this point before he finally gave us the price…$36,000!!! Keep in mind all of these windows are standard double hung windows, nothing large, custom sized, bay, curved, or anything else that might justify a premium. He then went on to say he could only offer us that “special discount” price today and after that it would go up by at least 10%. We flatly refused saying that was double to triple what we planned on spending (we later went with Home Depot and spent $11,000) We went back and forth for another 30-40 minutes about how that was too expensive, he responds “I could offer you 0% financing”, we are not paying that much, “you’ll never get them at a lower price than this”…
By 10:00pm it was very plain he wouldn’t take no for an answer and he really believed he could just wear us down to agreeing. I had to ask him to leave multiple times. I was close to the point where I’d consider calling the police to get him to leave. Once he stood up from the table he gave an additional 10 minutes of continued hard selling while creeping towards the door. About the only slimy hard-sell tactic thing he didn’t do was stick his foot in the door, but I did close the door on him still talking.
Bottom line, seems like a quality product, but very expensive and sold by the pushiest salesmen I have ever met. Based on my experience I would never recommend them to anyone.

They have a good, trustworthy name and offer a lifetime warranty.  They were prompt for both the estimate and the installation.  The prices are high but the quality of service and windows was good.  They did a good job with the installation and clean up.  The only downfall was there wasn't any itemization for the work (window were x amount, installation were y amount).

Beyond happy! This was the best construction experience we have had ever had. We had over 25 windows installed plus 2 patio doors so this was a major project. The windows were on the expensive side but the construction and quality more than offset the price. Plus the service was excellent from measuring, to installation to followup. The installers were neat, professional and courteous and left the house cleaner than it was before they started. This is definitely a case where you get what you pay for and I would recommend Renewal by Andersen to anyone considering replacement windows.
