The inspection did not go well. Frank Pellegrino, the company?s owner, communicated with me via phone and email. One of my concerns was whether Mr. Pellegrino would be performing the inspection himself or if he would have employees that would come to the site in his place. Mr. Pellegrino stated in an email that he would be there in person, but on the day of the inspection he did come to the home. My home inspector spoke with him over the phone and informed him that the house had not been occupied for almost a year. Upon hearing this, Mr. Pellegrino told me that the septic inspection would have to take place over two days and that the home inspector and I should run all the sinks and tubs for an hour to fill the septic with water. At this time Mr. Pellegrino assured me over the phone that he would be there in person to perform the rest of the inspection the following day, but he did not come to the home that next day either.
I was disappointed that Mr. Pellegrino never asked about the condition of the house or whether or not the house was occupied. I could have easily given him this information ahead of time and therefor been more prepared for a two day inspection.
Further complicating the issue, the home's well ran dry during the attempt to fill the septic tank with water. In order to get information on the home?s well I visited the township offices. During the visit I explained how the septic inspection was performed and the township employee informed me of the local ordinance that all inspectors need to call the township offices prior to performing inspections. Because Mr. Pellegrino did not visit the home or the township office to get a copy of the home?s septic site plan prior to having his employees complete the inspection, the inspection report we received was incorrect. (He incorrectly wrote that the home had a seepage pit instead of a full septic system.)
While Mr. Pellegrino did eventually go to the township and sent us a second corrected report, I was again disappointed that he did not follow township protocol nor admit that there was anything wrong with the way he completed his inspection report.
As a result, the seller rejected the septic inspection report and planned to hire another septic inspector of his choice to perform another inspection. (He did not hire another inspector because I canceled the sale.) Mr. Pellegrino did not offer any apology or refund.
In conclusion, I would not recommend Hercules Septic and Sewer Service LLC because
- - the owner did not keep his word when he said he would be on site in person
- - the owner did not ask enough questions about a property prior to inspection
- - the owner did not call local townships or follow local ordinances prior to performing the inspection
- the owner did not apologize or offer a refund for mistakes
