Description of Work: Angie's list email re jl molding On about March 2nd or 3rd I paid $450.00 to JL Molding Design to come to my house to install--what else?--crown molding! It is now April 3rd and I want my money back. JL Molding Design has been a pain in my a**! He gladly accepted my $450.00, but he keeps stalling and stalling for an appt. to start with, he seemed to complain that "it will take him an hour-and-a half to get to Jersey City!" (So if you don't want to drive that far, then DON'T take my $450.00!) In March he said, ".....I am very busy; are booked 4 - 5 weeks out." I said, "okay, I'll be on vacation week of April 5th. That's plenty of time for you to give me an appt." JL said, "....I dunno, I have to check my schedule at the office. I'll let you know." He never got back to me. A few days ago, as we got closer to my vacation time I texted JL again and asked if he could come to my house "next week." Once again this JL stalled and moaned about how very busy he is! "We're busy with appts 4 -5 weeks out....!" I told him that HE KNEW last month that I wanted to have this job done. LAST MONTH he cried about being busy 4 - 5 weeks out. I told him that that line is getting old, and just give me my money back!" His response was something like: I don't want your experience with Angie's List to be a bad one. I'll come to your house and do the job.... Even if I have to do this on a weekend." This is now about a week later and I STILL HAVE NOT HEARD FROM JL. (If you'd like, I can print out the lengthy text messages between jl and me detailing all of the aforementioned.) At this point, Angie's list, I'm not interested in this job. I want my $450.00 back! JL molding design sucks.

Response from JL Molding Design
*NOTE* JL Molding Design has neither never met this member nor provided services for this member. JL Molding Design also did not take her money. All money that she sent to Angie’s List will be returned through Angie’s List. The member purchased an Angie’s List “Big Deal” coupon without speaking with us first or having our approval. Unfortunately, as much as I would like to believe, you cannot please everyone. I've always felt that if you give 110%, you can’t lose. You will always learn something useful that can be applied to the next challenge or project. I am not perfect, but, much of life comes down to clearly communicating ones expectations, goals and process. This situation that I was put into was clearly unique. On March 9th, 2015, I was notified by Angie’s List that one of our “Big Deals” was purchased. After reading the name of the person who purchased the offer, I realized that this was someone whom I have never met. After realizing that the location was over an hour and half away, I contacted the member and explained my position. The member stated that she is hard of hearing and that she could only communicate through texts. I explained through texting that there were several factors involving logistics, such as parking and working outside due to weather without cover. Nonetheless, I would love to help everyone and was willing to make this work for her. Due to popular demand, we have a steady workload and new clients are booked approximately 4-5 weeks out. I explained to her that “as long as you are not in a hurry we will be able to arrive and complete the install in just one day.” She realized that we were booked for 5 weeks and stated that she was off the week of Easter, and if that didn’t work for us, she would take a day off from work. This was only 4 weeks away and we had commitments that whole week to other clients. The member explained that she could do a rain date and stated, “I’m really not difficult to work with!” She further stated, “I’m home Good Friday through April 10th. Again, if those dates do not work for you we can always make new arrangements at that time.” I explained to her that I could pull two guys off the project we are working on and have her project completed. I said that I would not know until that Tuesday (April 7, 2015) and wanted to see the progress of our current commitments. She replied with resentment saying that if I “squeezed her in that I would be under pressure to get the job done and I’m expecting quality work. Why did you diddle around and decide that you have no time for my job??” I explained to her there are “absolutely no worries and that we will get this done for you even if it has to be on my day off on a weekend. Our only obstacle will be the weather if it rains.” I further stated that I didn’t want her to have a bad experience and that I take extra steps to ensure everyone is 100% satisfied (as you can see we have a total of 37 reviews, all A+ and were awarded the Super Service award 2 years in a row). As I mentioned to her previously that I would contact her during the week she said she was going to be home, I texted her saying, “Good morning, I will be watching the weather carefully as they are calling for showers. I’m thinking that tomorrow (Tuesday, April 07, 2015) will be our best chance. Please let me know.” The reply I received was unforeseen, she stated, “Forget it. Today would have been PERFECT; chance of rain 40%-70%, next Saturday is Passover and I won’t be home. After that I return to work. This isn’t going to work.” Although she stated so in her review, she never asked for a refund as she was willing to work with us up until today. Despite letting her know that I would accommodate her the best I could even if I had to come on a weekend, having to be at the mercy of the weather for cutting outside, knowing that she was willing to have a rain date, knowing that I had previous commitments to clients that week and was trying the best I could to make this happen for her and that I wouldn’t know until that Monday, I honestly don’t think that there was anything else I could have done. I, too, have a record of our conversation and as a professional business man, conduct myself accordingly. No moaning, no crying and certainly no use of the word, “dunno.” JL Molding Design takes great pride in both the quality of our work and our reputation. In all of the years that we have been working, I have never had a single dissatisfied client.

My wife and I could not be more pleased with the results of this project. Working with John was a truly excellent experience. When he came to our home for the first time, he patiently listened to what we wanted to do . We never felt rushed in any way. He also offered some fantastic ideas for the pass-through between the kitchen and family room. Communication was absolutely outstanding. E-mails were answered almost immediately. As homeowners who have worked with many contractors over the years, we can say that we have never worked with someone so professional. On the day of installation, John and his crew arrived on time and the work began immediately. John stayed on the site the entire time. The work was done beautifully and professionally. John and his crew were very respectful of our home. We would strongly recommend JL Molding Design! We look forward to the next project with John!
Description of Work: My project consisted of installing crown molding in my entry, family room, and kitchen. John also installed architectural decorative boxes in the entry hall. Finally, John designed and installed custom trim and moldings for the pass through wall between my kitchen and family room.

Great job! The entire process took less than a month (including a couple pieces that had to be custom made) from the time we were quoted until it was completely installed/finished. Very easy to get a hold of and very quick to respond to any question or concern. They showed up precisely on time. John and his crew are very professional and care a lot about the work they do. They were very efficient and precise. They took great care to ensure they kept their mess to a minimum. Any mark/imperfection that I didn't like, they fixed/repaired without hesitation. Would definitely recommend them to anyone considering crown molding.
Description of Work: Installed, patched, painted, and caulked crown molding on the entire first floor as well as a two story foyer.

We had a great experience with JL Molding. We were only doing our dining room right now but would definitely use him again when we are ready for our next project. He came in and was very professional. He showed us various options and honestly discussed the trade-off between looks and price. He told us what was worth it and what wasn't as well as what would look good (even if what he was suggesting was the cheaper option). He was extremely professional and prompt with his service. We will definitely be using JL Molding again.

I would like to take the time to let others know what a great job JL Molding Design did with the installation of molding throughout our NJ home. The communication with John was prompt, efficient and top notch. During the initial consultation, John listened to our needs and what we wanted to have done. We printed out several photos from his website and discussed the look we wanted to achieve. I have to say that after the work was completed, our home looked absolutely amazing. Anyone that comes into our home for the first time always asks about the molding and who we hired to do it.. I proudly tell them, JL Molding Design. It's the only company that I would recommend!

.Working with John Langan (the owner) and his team was a pleasure. They were very professional and did great work. John gave us an estimate which came in a little above what our painter's guy would have charged us. But we thought John would do a better job, and he specializes in molding, so we decided to go with him. For what it's worth, we also contacted a friend's contractor, who quoted us a much higher price. John ordered the molding and had it delivered to our house a few days ahead of time. On the day of the work, he and a crew member arrived on time and got to work. He consulted me on the placement of the molding - how high it should go, how many picture boxes on each wall, etc. He had ideas and suggestions, but wanted to make sure we'd be happy with the end result. Then he and his partner cut the wood in the garage, and installed it in our dining room. They worked quickly and efficiently. I was very pleased with the work. Note that John does not caulk and prep the molding for painting - that was up to our painter to do. However, he made that clear from the start, so there was no confusion. John and his partner vacuumed the garage when they were done, as all the sawing left alot of dust. The floor was pretty clean, but there was still sawdust other places in the garage - ie on all the junk in the garage. That is my only criticism. Overall I was very happy. The molding looks terrific, the price was fair, and the people were professional and easy to work with. I highly recommend JL Molding Design.

I was looking to have shadow box molding added to 3 bedrooms in my home and after receiving a few estimates, I decided to go with JL Molding Design. From day one, I was extremely impressed with the professionalism displayed by owner John Langan. My wife and I were so happy with the work done in our home that we asked John to come back a few months later to add some trim and wainscoting to another room. Unlike many companies today, JL Molding Design is punctual, courteous and most of all performs excellent work. If you are interested in any of these attributes call JL Molding Design immediately!

Overall, working with John and JL Molding was a wonderful experience. John was honest, cared about our time frame, explained everything in detail and did exceptional work. Even our painter was impressed with John's work. John and his employee Rick were respectful of our home and left our home clean. I trusted John and left him in our home to work alone. I really feel like John cared about our home like it was his own. I highly recommend JL Molding and would definitely call them again to do more work in the future.
Description of Work: John was outstanding. We wanted to put crown molding in our living room and dining room. We wanted to change the molding around the three windows and put up a medallion over our current light fixture. We also wanted to put decorative molding in our foyer. John helped us choose the molding that would look best. He knew better than us what size and how decorative to be without the molding over powering the room. John was refreshingly honest. John did not sell us materials that would over power the room or that might need to be taken down later and redone. If he thought we were looking at something that was too much, he told us. We ended up with beautiful crown molding, a medallion purchased at Home Depot ( John told us we would get the best price there), new molding around the three windows, molding above our front door and four boxes with boxes inside in our foyer. Truly beautiful! I never would have known what to pick without John! I am totally happy with how it all came out!

The whole experience was perfect. John was a professional! He was very attentive to details and spent quite a bit of time talking with me about what kind of molding we wanted. He looked at the rest of the house and considered how high our living room ceiling was, and he made suggestions for what would look best and match the rest of the house. He came right before the holidays and the work was completed within several hours. He even worked around a fully decorated Christmas tree. He was a perfectionist and we couldn't be more pleased with his work. The room looks finished now!
