When we were ready to proceed with the job, we set up a date. Of course, that morning was very cloudy and looked like it was going to rain. They assured us that the storm was going to pass and that it was okay to proceed. I have to say I was very nervous and Mike, the man in charge of the project, explained how in cases like this they only work on one section and tarp the rest. He was very patient and treated my concerns very respectfully. When we came out to check progress on the job (which was often) we were never made to feel like we were bothering them. And of course, they were right -- the clouds passed with no rain.
The whole process was very efficient. The crew worked hard and carefully. The house was tarped, the shingles were craned onto the roof, the dumpster came, and off they went. Quite a few sheets of plywood needed to be replaced, so the job took two days instead of one. When they returned on the second day, they worked just as diligently with no rushing. Great care was given to cleaning the work area. In fact, they asked me for some paper towels and Windex to clean the skylights from the top. That really impressed me. And our gutters did not suffer any damage through all of this.
We are very happy with the work that was done. Although it was expensive, we felt like we paid for a quality job (materials, installation, warranty, etc) all around. We would definitely recommend them. Everything was handled very professionally.
Any aspect they did not handle, they provided advice and a resource for it.
I found this experience to be wonderful, and I look forward to the estimate and to hiring George Keller and Sons to install a power fan into my attic.
Once I hire them and have the work completed, I will update this review; however, I can foresee a job well done in my future!
The guys that refinished the floor of my deck were exceptional as they measured and made sure things were level and safe. I was very impressed with the way they secured things and you could tell they did this many times and had a lot experience.
I would suggest that maybe they could have a checklist of those things that go along with a deck like a gate etc, be on a checklist so they can be documented that way as opposed to just talking with a knowledgeable salesman since some things are lost in the conversation.
I was also impressed with the removal/installation process. They used big tarps to cover all of the landscaping around my house (which I haven't seen a roofer do in my neighborhood) - and other than finding a few shingle scraps afterwards - cleanup was impeccable.
Costs were also right in-line. I did get one estimate that came in slightly cheaper, but it felt more important to pay a little more to work w/ someone I trusted to get it done right. I also received a couple of estimates that were a thousand or 2 more. I decided to upgrade to Deck Armor and get a slightly better warranty, and still came in well-below the other estimates I received..
I'd highly recommend these guys if you're looking for a roof. Get a couple of estimates until you get a nice range - but George J Keller & Sons will likely be the obvious choice.
We were also very pleased with the work. It was delayed, unavoidably, by weather, but they kept us advised as to the schedule changes. They did a great job of protecting plantings around the house and cleaning up afterward (the patio and the gutters wound up cleaner than when they arrived!) And when they had to interrupt the job, because rain moved in unexpectedly, they were very careful about preparing the unfinished portion of the roof to protect it.
In all, we were impressed, and we felt like we got a good deal. The end result really looks nice. I would definitely recommend Keller be considered for any job you are planning.
"The member first contacted us through Angies List asking if we work in Middlesex County on 5/12. I responded on the same day and let her know that we do. The member then emailed me through our website on 5/13 stating she could meet on the afternoon of 5/17. I emailed her back on the same day asking if a 3pm appointment would be ok. The member responded on 5/14 that 3pm would be good. On 5/17 I was ahead of schedule so we actually met at 2pm. The member and I had a great meeting on a beautiful sunny day. I did state that I would provide the quote within 2-3 days which would bring me to the following Tuesday, 5/22. Since I meet with homeowners all day long I do my paperwork at night and the week after I met with the member I had many evening school activities with my two elementary aged kids. I apologized and explained this to the member when I responded to her email, on 5/24, asking where the quote was. I apologize if the member feels this is a "extremely poor excuse" but it is the truth. I was wrong not to email her with an update on Tuesday to let her know I was behind schedule with my paperwork. I will do a better job of getting my paperwork done faster or will do a better job of following up if I fall behind on my paperwork. Thank you for the oppurtunity to quote your project and I hope you have a great deck built."
I would highly recommend to others and would definitely use them again in the future, if a need should arise.
I rec'd an email a few days later with an estimate and list of activities that were included in the estimate. We didn't engage them until late March. At that point i was told they would probabaly be able to start in a few weeks and they were actually able to start a little earlier.
On the first day Bill (carpentry foreman) showed up with another carpenter to begin the reframing. A little while later, a Keller truck showed up with a dumpster....thier own truck and dumpster.....i was impressed. Bill was great to work with....very personable and knowledgable. He walked me thru the approach he was going to take and by the end of the day the troublesome hip was re-framed and sheathed and the ice shield and Tyvek applied. The team was very careful to lay tarps on the ground that would catch material removed from the roof and by the end of the day all waste was in the dumpster.
On the second day a van arrived early in the AM with the roofing team. Just as the team arrived, the material truck was in the street ready to unload the roofing materials. This was a no-nonsense team. I don't think it took longer than an hour to remove all the roofing material from the garage roof and start the installation. As the garage was winding down part of the team split off to remove the material on the second roof. Both roofs were completed before lunch as was all the cleanup. Later in the afternoon Bill returned to continue replacement of the wall shingles that were removed for the re-framing and installation of ice shield, flashing, etc.
On the third day, the replacement of the shingles were completed and the dumpster was picked up.
It hasn't rained yet so can't report on that aspect but i'm confident we'll be fine.
All in all, this was an outstanding experience.
Things to watch out for: It would have been smart (and nice) to lay down tarps on the ground and deck to catch the debris from pulling the old wood shakes off. Also, when removing outside hardware, such as light fixtures, switches, etc. I recommend that they put them in a designated container to keep them all together as some pieces were lost HOWEVER, they were replaced at no charge - so that is very positive.
i would definitely recommend them to anyone. Like I said, the house looks great.
I had water damage in an upstairs room that had a wall where the roof joined the wall and there was not proper protection of the wall on the outside. They did a great job of identifying the problem and coming up with a realistic solution to fix it. It took over a month after I mailed in the 50% deposit before they arrived to do the work. That time did include Christmas and New Years and I was told up front that they were heavily booked for a few weeks so I still gave an 'A" for punctuality. It does warrant mention here though because I did not have the comfort of an approximate start date until just before they got started.
The work crew arrived on time and was very professional, courteous and cleaned up when they were finished. A couple of followup visits were needed to reinstall siding and replace a section of gutter and they were quickly taken care of without the need for me to call and follow up or push to get it done.
Overall I'm very happy with the work performed and although I feel the price was high for the repair work I'm confident that the problem is taken care of and they were easy to work with.
