The Great American Roof Company installed a new roof, single layer of shingles on the existing deck in 2011. I still find the occasional roofing nail on the property and in the gutters. In 2014 there was a leak around one of the exhaust fans that was not sealed properly, causing a water leak and ceiling damage. The company explained that they only give a 1 yr service contract for their installation. They would have to charge a nonrefundable $175 service charge to come out and survey the issue. Certainly, a quality installation should be leak free for longer than 12 months imho. Generally, I find that a contractor that won't at least come out and look at a problem that is directly related to their work, especially on a 12k invoice, within a few years, is not dependable. Performing a courtesy visit to try and determine if the service was in fact faulty would have been the honorable thing to do. For that reason, I have to rate this company a D. I will find a new roofer to inspect rather than pay the original that is responsible for the leak in the first place.
"Mr. Moore, we installed the roof on your house in 2011 for the previous owner of your home. The previous owner opted to not move forward with the replacement of the power fan. That being said, Fortified Roofing did not include any work or replacement of this fan during our 2011 roof installation. Therefore, any issues you experienced regarding the power fan were not covered under our workmanship guarantee, as this was not work we performed. Additionally, at the time of your call in 2014 our warranty for this project had expired per our contract with the previous home owner. For issues or repairs occurring after the expiration of our workmanship warranty we typically charge a flat fee of $175.00 for a representative to come out to your home and review any problems. This fee is then used towards the repair and/or replacement of any items. In your case, this would have gone towards the replacement of your power fan. We apologize if we failed to accurately convey our company policy to you when you contacted our office. -Fortified Roofing Team"
