The only thing I'm confused about is the warning. The warning the customer is pushing is to beware because there is a minimum trip charge to get a crew at the home to do measurements for a gutter install. But in the complaint, she states that we told her there would be a charge right there in the phone call. If we are telling people there is a charge, why the warning? It's odd. Either way, the facts of the situation are this: We are a gutter cleaning service. We do gutter installation, but it isn't our main business. We install gutters on about two homes a week on average, as opposed to a gutter installation company which works does installation 5 days a week. We charge less for installation than most companies do, but due to the nature of our business, and our staff, we have to pay the crews every time they show up at a home. If we come out while doing a gutter cleaning and we see you need gutters replaced, we'll give an estimate at that time at no charge. However, if we aren't coming out for any paid service, we need to charge a minimum trip charge to cover the expense of sending a team to the home. Several people have done this because they know how our prices run and know they'll save money using us, or they want us because of our reputation. Otherwise, there are several companies that do gutter installation 5 days a week who come out and do estimates at no charge. FYI, we always deduct the trip charge from the work. So if someone pays the $85 for the estimate, and we give them an estimate of $1000, they only pay $915 for the actual work. If they don't don't hire us, they at least have the measurements so that they can call other companies and cost compare. We always encourage this because we are cheaper, but people don't know this till they make the calls. Likewise, if someone doesn't want to pay the trip charge, they can have someone else come out, do a measurement, and just call us with what the measurements are. We can give a price right over the phone if provided the measurements. I'm sure whoever she spoke with did not quickly hang up, but likewise, if someone did call for a service, we give a price, and they say "no I don't want it", that is effectively the end of the transaction. I couldn't imagine anything else we could logically say right then except "please". That leads to the other confusing thing. The customer, in her complaint, says that she told us no, but then complains that we apparently don't need the business. This is like someone coming up to you on the street asking for money for food, you tell them "no go away", and when they leave you say, "I guess they weren't really hungry". We would have been more than happy to do the estimate, but as the customer indicated, she said no. If we had done it anyway, that's call trespassing, and that's illegal. If there is a tone of humor in this response, it's only because I don't even understand the complaint in and of itself. I just went dress shopping with my wife yesterday, and three department stores didn't have what we were looking for. No bad service, no issues with refunds, just literally nothing happened. Now, I'm not going to post negative reviews of those stores just because there was no transaction. I can only imagine that if she did end up getting 3 quotes, and hired one of them, that she left negative reviews for the other two with something like, "They came out a gave me a quote, but I went with someone else. I guess they don't need the business". In the end, no need to heed the warning, as we'll tell you there is a trip charge. If we didn't tell you, we couldn't charge you for it, because that's illegal and unethical. Secondly, it wasn't that we didn't need or want the business, but she said no, and I was raised that in respect to women, no means no. In the end, since we are not a 24 hour a day gutter installation company, we don't need the work. We'd like the work, and we can do it for a great price, and if you call us with a measurement, we can give you an exact price without a trip charge, but in the time to go and do your free estimate that you might book, we can do a gutter cleaning for $130 that will definitely pay us. It's simple business. I'm sorry if the customer was offended by this, but it wasn't personal.
