So, this year when we wanted to replace the 1985 roof, the decision was easy - Asch Roofing. Asch helped us choose which shingle to use and worked with us on our tight deadline to get the work done. And of course they once again did great work, leaving us with a beautiful roof, while not disturbing the landscaping and lawn. Highly recommend.
Now we're working with Asch on an estimate for additional work we'd like done. Looking forward to continuing the relationship.
"My company has installed over 200 skylights. I have all 200 references, names and addresses. They all got a ten year guarantee. (Not warrenty). Not one of my skylight installations has leaked, including during hurricane Sandy. This upset client has never installed one skylight, but she does not like my information and advice. To bad. She would have been lucky to have hired me. As always I am here to do great work, not hold your hand and talk softly to you. If you are the type of customer that loves to talk on and on needlessly, about a simple situation like a leak please call some other contracter. I am to busy fixing the leaks, not talking about them. John Asch........."
"John Asch contracting was hired to fix a complicated slate roof and build in gutter system. I did not give a set price to do the entire job, but to provide a crew by the hour/ or day. The owner agreed to pay the men as they worked by the day. He could have stopped the men from working after the first day, or at any time. He inspected the work as we went along. We worked there approx. 17 days. He loved the work and paid on time as we went along. I 100% agree, when the money ran out we stopped work. What else would any contracter do. I do not understand why he complains we stopped when there was no more money? I have 33 photos of this job posted on my web site. They show the slate part of the job completed 100% Why would he say it was not completed when photos show it was? Job looks great. The only problem that I had with the owner is a product called copper ridge roll. This was to be installed on the corners of the house over the edges of the new slates installed vertically. My supplier was to get this, and copper is very expensive. This product was going to be over a thousand dollars. The owner said he found it on line for a lot lower in price. We agreed he would get it. When it arrived and I went to install it, I told the owner it was the wrong product, and I could not install it. He got mad at me because he ordered the wrong product, and he was tight for money. The slate roof was finished 100% as can be seen by the photos. We did not install/ finish the copper part. We left that copper in his driveway. My contract for this job was dated 9/21/11. The job was finished about a year and a half ago and looks great. I do not know why owner is lying about my company and twisting the truth approximately 18 months later. I have photos of work and contract on my side. I invite anyone to contact me who may have an interest, and I will take them to the job and show them what we did, or look at the photos on my website. I always complete my work 100% unless an owner runs out of money or orders the wrong parts. As far as me not talking to the owners, Cell phone records can be checked. I spoke at least 15 times about this job to owner over the phone and more times in person during the course of the job . John....."
I could go on and on but really all you need to know is I will never call anyone else for a roofing problem but John and he is the one of only 2 contractors I recommend to friends.
"I am happy that all my hard work over the many decades has caused 95% of all clients who have used my services to rate me as an " A ". I find it interesting that of the approx. 8 " F " ratings that I have received, have all been from people who have never used my services. As far as this client's opinion of me: I drove there at 5:00PM rush hour traffic. Was right on time, as she mentioned. Spent 45 minutes driving each way for free to look at her roof and skylight. After 33 years in the buisness I am expierenced enough to tell her roof was in real bad shape before I even parked fully. The honest answer is her roof is bad. If she can't except that fact, or needs someone to hold her hand and talk softly, it's not me. I could have ripped her off and sold her a new skylight, as she wanted and installed it into a bad roof. But, I don't work that way. I am honest. If you read her comment, her biggest issue is that I told her the truth to fast. I guess next time I will hang around longer to get a free cup of coffee before telling the client your roof is shot. John Asch......."
"You state that my price was well below the other roofers. Why then do I only rate a B from you in Pricing? Why not an A. Thank you any way. JOHN........."
roof years ago. i gave him a call and the next day he came and patched the roof up for free, even though i couldn't find the original
contract. it held up for a year then leaked again, i called him back and he fixed it again . After hurricane irene, it leaked some more So I called him one more time and he came back . we found the original contract, and i was already way ,past the guarantee
date, but john was so nice! He explained that the valley of the roof was the hardest place to pinpoint a leak because it can originate in one place and then trickle down into the valley and leak in another place. So, because we couldn't find the leak the first two times he offered to redo the entire valley of my roof free of charge! I was shocked ! He really did not have to do this but he said he stands
behind the quality of his workmanship and he thought it was the right thing to do! So, three days later , his crew of roofers, including
his son {it really is a family business} showed up at 8:00 am and proceeded to tear off the old shingles and install a whole new valley. By 2:00 pm, they were done, everything was cleaned up and my roof looked as good as new. It goes to show that there are still some nice and honest people left in this world! I'm so happy and grateful! when i need the rest of the roof replaced, I will definately call John Asche and I would recommend him to all of my friends! He and his crew were prompt, polite and courteous!
He turned what could have been an awful experience into a pretty good one for me! They say sometimes God sends an angel......I
guess John was mine!
When he arrived I explained the situation and showed him the water damage in our upstairs bathroom. He gave me some advice about suing the previous contractor. He then went outside to look at the roof. Less than 5 minutes later he was ready to tell me what had to be done. I asked him about what he found on the roof. He said he didn't need to get on my roof. He said the roof didn't have enough of an angle and had to completly ripped up and replaced with a proper angle so the water would run off. He gave me an esitmate of $3000 and told me he'd have to come back another day in order to take measurements and pull permits etc. before he could give me a real figure.
I thanked him for his time and didn't call him back. The major issues I have is that I asked him repeatedly about getting up on the roof to examine what the other contractor had done. There is a slight grade to the roof and a section that is flat. If he had gotten up on the roof as another contractor had he might have been able to provide me with a real idea of the problem.
The advice he gave me about suing the previous contractor didn't ring true either. He said that while I could sue for three times what I had paid and that it would be good to talk to the BBB, I could not repair the roof until the case had been completed through small claims court and I had been granted an award. Some cases take over a year...I'm supposed to wait and allow more rain in my home and more damage to the structure of my home...? I've watched enough Judge Judy to know that's not right.
I feel John Asch was interested in a large job, and mine wasn't, so he gave me a huge figure to keep me from bothering him again.
"I find it hard to believe there are so many ungrateful idiots in this world. Some one else did a bad job installing her roof. I have over 400 calls for roof repairs because of the hurricane. I am running around 15 hour days to try to help as many people as possible. As she said I even called to reschedual because of the bad weather rather then just not show up as a lot of contractors do. I even showed up at 7;45pm at night to help her out free of charge. I gave her free advice. If she dosen't like my advice that is her right. To contact angies list to complain about me coming for free at 7:45PM just after a hurricane when I am jammed up t help her, I find unreal. I guess I would get better rattings if I just didn't go??? JOHN......."
When they got there (they were actually 20 minutes early), he was gruff with them, wouldn't answer my dad's questions, said he couldn't help us after only 5 minutes, and stated and quot;I've got 12 more appointments to get to today.and quot; My dad told him, and quot;Then I guess you'd better leave.and quot;
"After setting up an appointment, I called that day to see if was possible for me to meet some one one hour early. They said they would see if they could. I arrived at the house, met with his parents. Went inside the house on two different floors to look at there leak. I advised them it was nothing that my company could do. I deal with roofing, and they did not have a roofing problem. I spent my gas to drive a large truck there, used up my time for free to give them free advise and they are upset with me because they cant get instant gratification. A few people out there are ungrateful. JOHN.........."
I had one problem with the flashing on the chimney two years later one call they came out and addressed the issue, their were no complaints or discussions they simply came and made the necessary repairs. No problems since then.
It was a pleasure to have a contractor keep their appointments, return calls and complete the work on-time and as promised.
I would highly recommend this contractor.
John Asch kept all appointments, arriving on time.
Detailed estimate, the variable of permit expense was explained and added at the final bill. No deposit required, full payment (cash or check) after work completed.
All work explained. Informative website. Work done ahead of estimated date of 7/1/2011.
On the day of installation Mr. Asch called to made sure that there was protection under the skylight that was being removed.
Installation started early morning, completed by mid afternoon.
No problems, minimal debris inside from skylight replacement.
It had been explained that they do not do any work inside, ie caulking of skylight, electrical wiring for attic fan, but that he could recommend a contracter if necessary.
Overall very happy with the work done.
"Get over it and just call someone else. There are hundreds of reasons why a phone call may have not been returned. If you had half a brain, maybe you could think of a few. JOHN......."
