The Speer family started their company in 1900 selling coal and oil to residents and businesses in Northern New Jersey. Speer Air Conditioning was formed in 1958 and incorporated in 1966. Since then Speer Air has attained a reputation as one of the top heating and air conditioning companies in New Jersey. We average between 35 and 50 employees seasonally. We are a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer (FAD) and have a New Jersey Home Improvement Contractor's license, 13VH00978100 as well as a New Jersey Electrical license, 14873. We provide complete HVAC services as well as electrical services. Speer Air is also a Generac Home Stand-by generator dealer. We also will give a $100 discount in addition to Speer Air discounts and the many utility rebate programs that are available. We look forward to serving you and offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee .

I was not that pleased with them. I would probably not use them again.  I did not hear them vacuuming the unit when my other HVAC company does. I felt like they were just trying to get their foot in the door.

The installation went very well from start to finish. The sales person came by and assisted in choosing the correct units for my home, we scheduled an appointment for 2 weeks later and the units were installed. The crew arrived on time (early morning), the job was completed in one day. The area was cleaned on completion. Everyone was very courteous and answered any questions that I had. I plan to use their services in the future. The people answering the phones are also very helpful. Everything is working fine, I have had no issues.

Everything went well, and our system is running fine, but I guess I was a bit naive about pricing. I called Speer because they listed a special $69 deal for a furnace tune-up, but I didn't read the fine print that it was for forced-air systems only. For my system I was told it would be ~$265. Never having had an oil-fired system before, I figured that was the going rate.  I later learned from my neighbor that their guy charges only $100. Checking online at places like costhelper,com, a typical tune-up "can cost $70-$200 or more but typically is about $100-$125". Next year, I won't blindly trust a highly-rated Angie's List contractor - I will shop around.

I purchased the furnace tune up deal on Angies List.  Speer air was fantastic.  I would definitely use them again.  The tech, Mike did a very thorough job and was very knowledgeable and professional.  He also answered several questions I had about my unit which was very helpful.

Had service scheduled for Friday, Nov 7th, between the hours of 12-4. Provider never showed up or called to cancel/reschedule. As of this morning, I still have not received any communication from them.

The suggested dates on the purchase of the tune-up special are just that. I sent a return email to you on Nov. 5 the to please call to schedule and we never heard form you. Unfortunately, Angie's list doesn't have a spot for the customer to enter their phone number so we can call. We never called because of this. Overall pretty well, informed me of what I need, explained why my gas costs are high due to the age of my furnace. Didn't replace filter however, stated that he was out but nevertheless I was happy with the service and furnace runs better.

I purchased the Fall Tune Up Special for $69.00 through Angie's List.  I received an e-mail from Speer Air confirming the purchase and we set up an appointment.  They gave me a 4 hour window (between 10am-2pm) which I thought was a little long compared to my previous service provider but I accepted the appointment.  The day of the appointment the technician (I apologize but I forgot his name) was running late due to an emergency at his previous stop. I understand that that sort of thing happens.  The receptionist at Speer Air called me when he was on my way and that was appreciated.  
The technician was very courteous and professional.  He replaced the air filter, tuned up the furnace and tested it out and the furnace itself worked fine.  Unfortunately, my Nest learning thermostat could not turn on the furnace.  The technician diagnosed the Nest and the furnace and we both came to the conclusion that there was a problem with the Nest. The technician offered to re-install my old thermostat (which I still had) which I appreciated but I told him I would work with Nest technical support to fix the problem.  He told me to call if needed any further assistance.  Eventually, Nest sent me a new thermostat which I installed myself and my heat works just great now.
Overall I was very pleased with the service and the technician and I would use them again.

The repairman seemed nice enough although when he left and I got a second opinion the second  repairman from another company told me the Speer Air repaiman  had cut the  electric to it so I could not operate the furnace through the thermostat. Sure enough that was the problem. Now by Law if the unit was unsafe and he shut it down, as a homeowner it is my choice whether to listen to his warning. He had no right to cut the electric off. Needless to say we are very disappointed with the way the situation was dealt with and I felt like I was being forced into buying a new unit from them. I am sorry that they are a Angie list provider. I would not use them again because you can't trust them.

If the crack in the heat exchanger opened up, the health of your family could be in serious danger. We do not pressure anyone to purchase new equipment with those tactics and we are only looking out for your safety. If the furnace was left running and the worst happened,Speer Air would be held liable for the sickness or worse of the occupants."

Technically, I have no way of knowing if the guy did anything as I didn't stand over him while he did his work (and frankly, even if I did, I still wouldn't know what he was doing and if it was any good). But I will assume he did a good job. He was punctual, very nice, knew his stuff, spent tons of time explaining everything to me and didn't try to upsell me on anything which is always appreciated. Took him about a half hour of actual work time.

I will definitely see them out in the spring to conduct the repairs. They even told me that the future repair bill will be adjusted to account for a portion of the service bill that I uncured.. We'll see. I will report back in the spring.

Well the spring came and went and the summer is here. Had Spear out again to make the repairs. Different tech. gave me some grief about completing the repairs on the same visit (I had to stay home for the visit from work) but eventually agreed to do the repairs needed and then follow up on Monday for the external work when I don't need to be onsite. the bill was initially estimated at 1700 but then adjusted to 1350.. Guys are honest.
I was given a refund of my service call cost last year. Satisfied with that!
Will write back after the conclusion of the repairs on Monday.
