Description of Work: There was a mixing up in the local deals section and I purchased a deal from them. After I contacted them to set up a appointment, the customer service individual noticed the mix up. She told me that someone would call me back to sort out the mix up. The owner (or one of them) contacted me 5 minutes later and cleared everything up.

The heat wave in our area, together with my own work schedule, made it difficult for us to schedule a mutually convenient appointment. But once it was scheduled, the tech showed up on time, was easy to work with, and explained everything I wanted. I look forward to working with this company on the larger jobs to come.
Description of Work: A tech fixed several spots in the attic ductwork that were sucking hot attic air into the A/C system. He patched a weak spot in the sheetmetal trunk section by using special tape, and he trimmed a frayed section of the flexible duct so that it could be cleanly reconnected. He also fashioned a cover for the filter housing out of the broken original cover. He explained these bandaids should be quite durable, but recommended that I have Chris come back out to price a few options for replacing some of these aging 20+ year-old components.

I was very satisfied with the work and recommendations they provided to me. I will most likely have them come out to do my follow up work when I can afford to do so. I would recommend them to anyone looking for HVAC work. They were quick to respond, arrived on time and very professional.
Description of Work: CRT analyzed the problem I was having with my A/C unit not keeping up with the desired temperature during the hotest time of the day. They provided me with answers to remedy this problem and provided the requested estimates to complete the work. They also added refrigerant to my system because it was a slightly low.

They showed up when they said they would. Fixed my a/c and made us happy.
Description of Work: wow! First time a company told me what to try to prevent a service call, then called back the next day to see if it worked. My regular H/A people could'nt come for 4 days. CRT came next day. They told me what my problem might be before they came, they were right, thank goodness. My system was low on r-22, ( 4lbs). Told us how to clean out side unit with cheap fix, (would cost them $100.00). Paid $384.00 after 10% coupon at angies site.

I got another estimate from somebody else, but their price was $1500 more than him. He came on time. He finished the job in few hours and did a nice job. He gave us 10 years of warranty, which was 5 years more than the other company, so I was pretty happy with him. I would use him again in the future too.

I had just installed a new thermostat from Home Depot because the old one was a touchscreen and no longer responding to the touch. I also had an occasional problem with the old one where the fan would run occasionally, even when the thermostat was set to off. Very odd. So the new one is a touch screen that also communicates with my router so I can control it from any computer or my phone, cost $100. The online interface was very buggy, didn’t work at all to my expectations. The major problem was the fan was running CONSTANTLY with the new thermostat. I thought, “There must be some problem with my system somewhere, I need to get a professional in here.” I found CRT on Angies List, he was in the area, had a great rating, and MANY positive reviews. I called in around 2 PM, and was told that they were extremely busy, how late could someone stop by. My day was free, so I had no time constraints. Chris showed up about 7:30 PM, after an obviously long day. He checked over my entire system, spent about an hour testing everything. Ultimately, Chris told me that the big box store thermostats were garbage, we should try a pro grade one he had with him, even though it was just a basic thermostat, no bells or whistles. Once that was hooked up, the system worked perfectly, no constantly running fan. Chris then broke out this big binder with all his pricing and first off explained that regardless or time of day, or day of week, or even holiday, the cost of the service call was $75. It’s nice to know there is a company out there not gouging you because it might be a Sunday night or Christmas. Then he showed me in the book to cost to repair the particular thermostat he had just installed. $222. I thought that was pretty high, but he didn’t charge me the cost of the thermostat PLUS the cost to repair / troubleshoot. Reminds me of a story I heard years ago: A giant ship engine failed. The ship's owners tried one expert after another, but none of them could figure out how to fix the engine. Then they brought in an old man in his eighties who had been fixing ships since he was a young man. He carried a large bag of tools with him, and when he arrived, he immediately went to work. He inspected the engine very carefully from top to bottom. Two of the ship's owners were there watching this man and hoping he would know what to do. After looking things over, the old man reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine lurched into life. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed! A week later, the owners received a bill from the old man for ten thousand dollars. "What?!" the owners exclaimed. "He hardly did anything!" So they wrote the old man a note saying, "Please send us an itemized bill." The man sent a bill that read: Tapping with a hammer...... ......... $ 2.00 Knowing where to tap.......... ......... $ 9,998.00 Moral of the story? Effort is important, but knowing where to make an effort makes all the difference! Chris put in a lot of effort in checking everything out and determining the source of the problem. I would have never figured it out on my own. Well worth the price he charged. At the end, the total came out to $317 and change. I mentioned the coupon he had on AngiesCheck List for 10 off, and he tried to take 10% off. I corrected him and told him it was $10 off, and he called it an even $300. I would highly recommend CRT and if you’re lucky Chris will come out and solve your problems.

Chris is very professional, knowledgeable, congenial, and efficient once he made it over. He didn't respond right away to my inquiry for an estimate, but when he did, he arrived punctually. He saved my money by telling me NOT to do something, since it was unnecessary. He was easy to communicate with and I would recommend him for his knowledge and skill.
Description of Work: We just moved into a home with a 10 year-old HVAC system. Chris came out to service the heater, and just give the systems a perusal. He was helpful in that he told me to keep the humidifier, which I was going to disconnect, and NOT to remove a condensation pipe. He was very informative and helpful.

It was an excellent experience. CRT was punctual, professional and provided excellent service at a reasonable price.
Description of Work: My AC stopped working at 4:30 PM on Friday night. I called CRT and Chris was at my house in 30 minutes. He performed some basic diagnostics on the outside unit and quickly discovered one of the fuses to the unit had blown because the starting capacitor on the fan motor was bad. He replaced the fuses and capacitor and in 20 minutes everything was working again.

CRT was very courteous and professional on the phone and was interested in getting some background information on the problem. The technician performed the services quickly. The problem I had was that three days later the system was not cooling again. After informing CRT, I was told my system must have a major leak and my options were to either have them perform a leak check for up to $1000 or replace the entire AC unit. I was not pleased with this response since I had just spent $400 on refrigerant that was most likely lost to the atmosphere and no leak check was ever done on the system by the technician to determine how the system lost refrigerant in the first place.
Description of Work: My air conditioning unit was not cooling so I had CRT Mechanical come to diagnose and correct the problem. The technician found that the unit had a low charge and ran an acid test. The technician then recharged the unit and noted that some caps, presumably on the refrigerant line, were loose. He then confirmed that the system was cooling properly.

Everything went excellent with this service call and installation. Kris reacted promptly and visited my property location to do a quick assessment and provide me an estimate. The estimate came in round about what other companies were giving me for the work that needed to be done and the equipment costs. Kris quoted me the costs for installation and equipment in total for a system that appeared to be superior in terms of being more modern than what the other companies were offering with a much better manufacturer's warranty as well. The work was also completed on time in accordance with the schedule and done correctly without any eventualities coming up to cause unneccesary delays. I would definitely use this contractor again for any future jobs and highly recommend to anyone else in need of this service.
Description of Work: Split unit type Heating/Air conditioning unit needed to be replaced entirely. This system consisted of a heat pump with heater coils, an air handler and an emergency heat kit. The system both inside and outside of the unit needed to be removed and replaced.

The work was done professionally and on schedule. The work area was left clean and if a boiler installation can be considered beautiful, then this one was. Chris and his workers took obvious pride in their good, hard work. We are very pleased with this project and feel good about recommending CRT to anyone with a heating project. We will also have them do whatever annual service is required of this system. Good job!
Description of Work: We decided to replace the very old boiler which provided hot water for our radiant heating system. After getting estimates (and a lot of information) from three other companies we decided that CRT offered us the best value. They also had a superior rating on Angie's List, which is what put them on our list in the first place.

The company was called on a Saturday morning and was there before the time stated. Because my daughter was involved in a volunteer organization and had commitments, my husband went to the location to let the serviceman in. He checked the system and determined what was wrong and gave an estimate. He was given the OK to perform the work and had to go pickup the motor. He returned quickly and installed the part. He even tightened up the thermostat. The cost was lower than his estimate. He was efficient and effective. Thank you very much!

I'm more than happy with the work done by Chris and his crew. There were two primary reasons I went with CRT for this project. First, his price was 33% lower than the other quotes I received. Second (and this was big with me), he was the only one who wasn't afraid to tell me the truth when it wasn't convenient for him. After buying my house last year I discovered that the third level was impossible to heat or cool properly. The mix of vaulted ceilings and low airflow made sure it was boiling in the Summer and freezing in the Winter. Other company salesmen promised that their fancy two stage blower would solve the problem. Chris told me what I suspected, the fundamental issue was the ductwork. It was blowing a disproportionate amount of air to the bottom two levels and starving the upper floor. A new furnace would alleviate the problem somewhat, but nothing, but a change in ductwork would correct the fundamental, issue. Given that our furnace and A/C were 19 years old, in September I decided to go ahead with the install anyway. He was very accommodating with the install day, and promised he'd be there between 8-9 in the morning. He showed up at 7:45 and got to work removing the old units. By 4PM or so the work had been completed, and it looked beautiful. I was amazed that they completed it in a single day. I've had a chance to use both the heat and A/C over the past month and a half, and they both work beautifully. The A/C unit is wonderfully quiet compared to the previous one, and my electric bill for September was the lowest I'd seen of any Summer month, thanks to a decent air conditioner. The larger furnace does throw more heat to the upstairs, but it still remains cool (just as Chris said it would). Overall, every promise or prediction Chris made about my heating system was true and accurate.
Description of Work: I had CRT do a full replacement of my natural gas furnace and A/C unit. This was a 70k BTU Goodman 80% furnace and a 13 SEER A/C (the size escapes me at the moment, but it was quite a bit larger than the original).

The job went exactly as Chris said it would. He coordinated the tank installation and the hook-up so we didn't have to worry about being without heat. I have never dealt with a more courteous work crew! The job was completed on the day that was estimated and I couldn't believe how clean everything was when they were done. Chris and his crew surely made this as painless as possible and we are recommending his company to everyone we know.
Description of Work: We had electric baseboard heat and when we completed the addition to our home, we wanted to install an entirely new heating and air conditioning system throughout the house. Chris Thomas, the owner, came out himself to look at the job and explained the job in full detail. We needed to run ductwork throughout the house and install a propane tank (we don't have public gas here). The price he gave us was very reasonable compared to two other quotes we got, but we were more sold on his professionalism and confidence in the system and his ability to do the work. We signed the contract on the spot.
