Customer Service is the worst and the company is negligent on customer contracts. I just bought my first home, and the previous homeowner had service from AmeriGas and was happy with it. I contacted the company to establish an account in my name and transfer the service. Everything went well with the sales rep, and he signed me up for automatic, "worry-free" delivery service. After that initial phone conversation, then everything went horribly wrong. About a week and a half ago, I woke up in the morning to no heat and no hot water. I raced to my hot water heater which powers both to find that it is not getting any gas. I then go to the tanks to find the gauge is on 0. The company neglected to maintain my automatic delivery service and allowed my tanks to go empty. I called customer service for an emergency delivery, they said someone would be right out in 24 hours. Instead it took 5 days for a delivery. When the delivery driver found my tanks empty, he filled them but he locked them out due to a company policy requiring for a technician inspection when tanks go empty. I have been calling everyday to get the technician to come to my home to unlock the tanks but the customer service reps and their supervisors said that they could not help me. One customer service rep said that a technician might not be available for 3 weeks or more! At this point, I have gone one and half weeks with no shower, not able to do dishes, not able to do laundry, and even worse NO HEAT! In order to assure my pipes didn't freeze, I had to buy 2 space heaters to attempt to keep the freezing temperatures away. Customer service reps and supervisors keep telling me that someone will contact me in a couple hours but no one calls and no one emails me. And then today I received a bill for close to $500 for propane gas that I can't even use. I don't understand how they have little to no care for their customers, and their priority is money. A utility service that is supposed to be worry-free is in reality full of worrying!

Description of Work: I am new to Propane and have a special price to help me adjust to the idiosyncracies of using propane. They are a good company but propane is expensive if you have no other alternative.

,AG was the LP provider of the house I bought. Unfortunately, LP is not regulated in NJ. Once we moved in we quickly found out the tank is "owned" by AG. The tank which is quite large is under the ground and since it was AG's tank they could charge us any price they wanted for LP, and they did. After 6 years of them refusing to sell us the tank, myself and all of my neighbors sent a letter telling them to come and get them. They finally balked and sold us the tanks. Low and behold once we owned the tank and we were free to use other companies AG calls all the time with offers of much cheaper LP to sell us. Im not talking 10-30% lower Im talking 50-75+% lower. They also charge many other markup fees that other companies do not charge. Buyer beware. Glad to be free.

Description of Work: Amerigas was provider, when we purchased our home. Amerigas said they would have to do service of system. After it was completed we were presented with a service bill of $125.00 System was working with propane in tank when dwelling was purchased. On refill price charged was higher than Suburban Propane who we used on next refill. We had to get new tank, but still much cheaper than Amerigas. Sub charge for new tank service was $50.00

We have an underground propane storage tank that is used for the range in our kitchen, the hot water heater and our whole-house generator. In July, I contacted Amerigas to refill the propane tank at a recently purchased home. The woman said that she would send some forms via regular mail that I would need to complete and return. She said I would also need to prove that I owned the tank and said that would be covered in the forms. The forms never arrived. In mid-September, worried about running out of gas, I called again and spoke with a guy and explained the situation and that we had never received the forms. He e-mailed me a form which I completed, scanned, and e-mailed back the next day, assuming that everything was in order but not really giving it more thought. Until yesterday, over a month later, when we ran out of hot water and had no gas for cooking, among other things. I contacted them and they said they had no record of either the first or second call (even though I was able to forward the e-mail from mid-September within seconds and which had been sent to the same guy I was talking to). While unapologetic, the guy I spoke with was cordial, but noted he'd need to have a "girl" process the application. And he'd also need proof of the ownership of the tank, though again wasn't specific. I forwarded the amendment to the home purchase contract that mentions that there is a propane tank on the property and does not indicate that it will not be part of the sale. I asked if that was sufficient? No response. Twenty-four hours, another follow-up e-mail and more cold showers later, still no response. By comparison, I called Advantage Propane and in less than half a day they had everything set up and delivered the gas and only required that I sign a form attesting to the fact that I owned the tank. I sent another e-mail to Amerigas telling them not to bother with whatever they had in process as, following their inactivity since mid-September and earlier, I had found another provider. Not surprisingly, I have received no response.
Description of Work: I contacted them multiple times to arrange for them to fill an underground propane storage tank.

They come and fill my gas tank once a year. We have only ever used Amerigas so I have no comparison for price. They come, they fill the tank and they send me a bill and we're done. They show up on their own.

They were terrible. I am still waiting for them to pick up the tank for over a month now. They give you the run around. We call them up and I ask them to come out and get the tank and they say okay we will be out there within the next four to five weeks. They came three times to pick up two tanks that I had and they couldn't do it because it was too big and they needed an extra guy. Now, I am still waiting to pick up a smaller tank and they still hadn't come yet. And, their billing department is terrible. You call them up and they just don't give you any answers.
Description of Work: We just changed from propane to natural gas but we used to get propane from Amerigas.

I've never had any problems with them. I almost don't notice that they deliver. They missed once several years ago and I got on their case and they've been great ever since. I haven't had any major problems with them. The prices are pretty much standard.
