Owner was prompt & courteous for 1st visit to give estimate/set price for lawn care; we agreed on work terms & price for each mow. We also discussed the possibility of doing landscaping work. For actual mowing job, he failed to show at scheduled time for 1st job & I had to call & remind him; he showed up later & did work. For 2nd scheduled job, he again failed to show so I called & left a message, then called him again a few hours later & he said he had forgotten due to long day but would be right over. Showed up almost 2 hours later & just before dark. When he mowed over a planted area, I told him to stop as it was too dark. He became rude, said he could see in the dark, & said no one tells him how to work; I told him I was the homeowner, it was not safe to mow in the dark, & no one I paid would treat me that way. He calmed down eventually but refused to charge less despite being late, rude, & failing to finish job. He said he'd replace plants mowed (but never did). I found out next day that he had also mowed over & broken part of a plastic bed border, & he had taken stones out of another bed border & I couldn't find them. Knowing that sometimes people have bad days, I gave him another chance. I showed him the bed borders & he claimed he had to move the stones so as to not break his mower blades. I said he should've asked me first & asked him to put the stones back, but he had thrown them into thick brush & couldn't get them. He gave no discount for not finishing the prior job or for any of the damages. After he again failed to show or call for the next scheduled job, I called & left a message for him telling him he was fired, as well as demanding a receipt for the work he had done (since he had charged tax) as well as a refund for the work he had failed to do, including the damages. He never replied, sent a receipt, or any refund. Will never hire again for ANY lawn or landscape job. So much for giving second chances...
