The tree was located between (2) two story buildings with minimal space between the buildings. The work was completed without
incident and the area was cleaned up when the job was completed. The process from estimate to work completion went smoothly.

Everything went well.  They showed up earlier than anticipated, and didn't leave any small wood per our agreement, but I can't complain.  They did a great job, cleaned up after themselves, and did so at a fair price.  I would definitely recommend them in the future.

Came home from work several days later to find the project being done...no contact from anyone...According to my neighbors they had already been there over an hour. It was after 9am and I needed to be up and out of the house by 5;30 for work again.  Of course the boss was on vacation and this assignment was given to these men.   When I voiced my concern i was directed to other people to talk with--ultimately the crane driver----was i going to disturb him? Finally I was able to voice my disappointment in the timing of the project.  The comment I received was "you must be use to sleeping during the day" and "have you heard of melatonin?"...Needless to say I wasn't very happy .  They told me that the tree in my front lawn was damaged and i arranged for them to remove it as well while they were here.  
Work was performed and several days later Kevin was at my door before 9am looking for payment.. I was not home so he told my daughter to have me leave the check taped to the door.....No invoice, no follow up.  I wanted to discuss the situation and the huge stump in my front lawn which is still there.  My neighbor who requested this job from me also had a tree removed and i was told by her she was not charged for it, ground and stumped as well.  I paid $200 (reduced from 250 for my trouble) for the tree in my front yard--not grounded and stumped.
The work that the men did I have no concerns with and unfortunately they were put in an awkward position.  I am just dissapointed in the professionalism of the owner himself and  what appears as his lack of concern for the consumer.

First of all Kevin was a gentleman and a professional. He was prompt and had the equipment necessary (a crane) to remove these extremely dangerous trees. One of the trees was dead ( a Y split tremendous pine over 80 feet  4 or 5 foot diameter). No problem for the crew! His crew were second to none in professionalism and courtesy. The crew entertained the entire family, including my cats, as they watched the skilled acrobatics of the team on how they systematically took down each tree. They cleaned up and left after thanking us for the patronage.

Kevin was very prompt in responding to my request for an estimate and also emailed me a copy of an insurance binder that I had requested.  He gave me an estimated start date for the work and this was the exact date that they started work. The crew did an incredible job in taking down the three trees close to the house. They accomplished the work efficiently and professionally.  They protected my lawn by setting down sheets of plywood before positioning the bucket truck on the lawn. For the fourth tree, a very tall tree located in a wooded back yard, they could not access this area using their bucket truck.  Instead, they brought in a NiftyLift ? a portable bucket lift which was able to access the back yard and used this to complete the job.  They chipped all branches/limbs and removed the larger logs as well as cleaning up. I was impressed that this company has all of the proper equipment - bucket truck, crane, NiftyLift ? for tree removal/trimming work. I would have no hesitation in using this company in the future for tree work.

I had a free estimate done on July 17,2013, for a small Elm tree to be removed from my property. The job was to cut down the tree and grind out the stump for $225.00, which I thought was reasonable price. He said they could probably get to it on Saturday, maybe sooner, it wasn't a large tree. The crew arrived on Thursday, the next day. It only took about 45 minutes for them to take down the tree and clean up. They cleaned the driveway and raked up anything left on the lawn. A few hours later another person came and ground out the stump, about 15 to 20 minutes work, and cleaned up.
I've used this company before, I had large evergreen trees removed from my backyard, and they did a good job on that too.

They were on vacation so catching up with them was a bit of a task, but once we connected it was very smooth.
They showed up on a weekend to look at the tree and were there the following monday.
They also cleaned up a couple of branches from other trees and did not charge me anything extra.
I would use them again!

This is my second write-up of Gate City Tree Service on Angie's List.  I was so pleased with the work they did in the Spring grinding down two stumps that I thought I'd try them again with another project.  We had an apple tree growing out of control in our side yard.  Its branches were way over the service lines coming into the house, and the girth was such that it was close to hovering over our neighbor's driveway on one side and our driveway on the other, plus it was absolutely loaded with big green crab apples.  It had to go.
I solicited three bids and received two.  Gate City's bid was more than $100 cheaper than the other guy so I went with them again hoping lightning would strike twice and they would do another superlative job.  Well, they did.  I figured when I got home the day they did the work there would be apples everywhere, pieces of branches strewn across the lawn, and big divots in the ground where the stumpgrinder was set up.  Well, there were exactly four apples, some small wood chips from the grinding, and no divots.  They cleaned up everything.  I couldn't believe my eyes. 
From now on I'm not even going to bother soliciting bids for tree work.  These guys have the best price and the best service, so why go anywhere else.

Over the past couple of weeks I cut down two very large hedges in my front yard that were growning out of of control.  In the end there were two stumps with short branches maybe three feet across that my neighbor and I figured could be pulled out with his truck.  After a lot of digging and root-cutting around these puppies my neighbor hooked up his truck to one of them and let 'er rip, but the stump wouldn't budge.  I knew then that I needed a professional to come out and do the job. 
Looked on Angie's List and Gate City got some pretty good reviews so figured I would try them, and I'm so glad I did.  They responded to my email inquiry immediately and Kevin, the owner, was out to my house that morning surveying the situation.  Next thing you know I have a quote for $95 to grind both stumps, which surprised me because they could have easily gouged me for double that like some companiies would do when they know you are in a desparate situation.  I accepted the offer and Kevin was out the next day to do the job.
Spoke to Kevin on the phone the night before to express my concern about damage to my driveway from the heavy machinery and to my truck which was parked near the house.  Kevin told me he is always very careful about not causing damage to property, and I shouldn't worry.  Well, when I came home from work that night the job was done and there was a beautiful foot-deep hole where each of the stumps had been, just as Kevin promised.  No damage at all to the driveway and truck, and I was a happy camper. 
I highly recommend Gate City Tree Service and will certainly use them myself again as the need arises.

The Gate City Tree Service team cut the trees down, removed them from the property and mulched the branches. The stumps were ground and all excess materials removed from property.

Kevin's crews did a terrific job removing over 30 trees over 2.5 days, some enormous, some from hard to reach places on the far side of the house. They arrived on time and proceeded with clockwork precision and coordination. Fascinating to watch. Be aware that the crane set up and breakdown will take time, so be sure you know when the day starts and ends. Clean up was as promised--nothing left! (If you have the stumps ground--you'll be on your own for that cleanup, as I also found with a service years ago.)

The job went very well. They arrived at 8 am and proceded to immediately get to work. The job took all day (8 am to 5 pm) with the cutting down of the trees etc. The logs were then removed two days later as different equipment had to be brought in to accomplish this.

Kevin came out to give me an estimate.  He was prompt and very professional.  We agreed on the price and he scheduled the work to start in 10 days.  He was actually able to start a bit sooner.  His crew arrived and started removing the 1st tree.  Because of the size and location of the trees, they used a crane.  Everyone on the crew worked so well together, everything went very smoothly.  The crew was very pleasant and respectful.  The did a great job cleaning up before they left.  The whole transaction, start to finish was great.

Kevin came to my house and we walked around and he took a few notes and he gave me an estimate.  When I asked him about grinding the stumps he gave me an additional price and then combined the two into a lower price because I wanted both the trees and the stumps done at the same time.  When his crew arrived to do the work I was amazed at how well they worked together.  Not one tree was dropped on my property.  They used a crane to lift all of the trees out to the roadway and then cut them up and put the branches into the chipper.  Through their own ingenuity they were able to cut and lift the trees from the back of my house.  I was like a little boy watching how they were working.  The young man showed up on Saturday morning and removed the stumps and again I was continually watching him.  He was like a machine going from one stump to the next.  Kevin is a good business man and his crew is the best.  They all work together like a well oiled machine.  I have more trees in the back of my house that I plan to ask Kevin to cut this winter when the ground is frozen.  I like contractors who say what they are going to do and do what they say.

I live on a steep hill with no driveway access to the Backyard.  After quoting approximately 5 places, Gate City was one of 3 that would agree to the job given the difficulty.  They were buy far the cheapest (I was getting quotes in the $5-6K Range vs Gate City's quote of $3300).  For no cost they also agreed to prune two 20 ft tall trees in my front yard with a bucket crane.They brought a very expensive crane and approximately 5 workers for half a day.  I was very impressed with their abilities and professionalism.  I highly recommend them to anyone looking for tree services

The crew were here the next day,Monday.The two man crew did a great job.Clean up was perfect.I really was pleased with Gate city thei work and their responsiveness.

The crew of three men were here for approx. 5 hours.  They worked non-stop except for their lunch break.  They were polite, respectful, and considerate.  They did everything I asked and cleanned up after themselves.  This is the second time I have used this service and have been satisfied with their work.  The only downside this last time was they did not come at the time arranged.  I had to call to find out where they were and was told they were running late because of a previous job they needed to complete.  The delay would not have bothered me at all if I had been informed.  I think it is important that services always keep their customers informed, no matter what the issue.  They appologized profusely but I could have slept an extra hour if they had called!  :)

I guess i said it all in the above portion of this Angies List Review .... this is the first time i have been this satisfied as to seek out a web site to make sure somebody got  .. credit where credit is due !!
