Despite being on automatic delivery / automatic pay, our tank has run dry twice in the last 6 months. I can live with no heat/hot water/cooking in July, but not in January when the temperatures are around zero, and not for three days. I do not recommend Suburban Propane. Terrible customer service - over an hour wait each time I called and no delivery despite paying a $175 'emergency delivery' charge which even the customer service rep said we shouldn't have to pay due to the auto delivery program. They haven't even called back as promised (twice!) with delivery window, nor on Sat or Sunday night to let us know they had stopped sending trucks so we wouldn't get delivery -- we had to call them to find that out. Still waiting, now with frozen pipes. We 'inherited' this provider when we bought the house, and will be changing as soon as we can -- I can only imagine how difficult that will be, since they don't seem to be interested in delivering propane to an existing customer in frigid winter weather. I do see news reports that they are making a ton of money with this cold spell, too bad they couldn't spend some of that actually providing service. In calling around to other providers (who have a real person answer the phone without an hour + of hold time), it also seems that their rates are substantially higher than others in our area.

Was not going to bother with a review but a reminder from Angie's list to rate as they deserved prompted me to finish the review. Unfortunately, we had a very bad experience with Suburban Propane. Service had been outstanding with MainGas in Ossipee, but once Suburban purchased them we experienced dramatic price increases and missed delivery requests. The over the phone suggestion to turn the heat down rather than make a weekend delivery was the reason we fired them and changed our propane service provider.

The price was a little higher. They came on time.
