Thermostat showed 61 degrees when technician arrived. The furnace had been istalled on January 2nd and 3rd of 2013 by AkSarBen HVAC. The technician, Don G., looked it over and determined the compressor locked out as the "freeze stat" was set at 30 degrees upon delivery. And for a closed loop geothermal like mine, it should have a "freeze stat" set at 15%. This was a simple fix - NO CHARGE - and Don was surprised they didn't catch this when it was installed. It was just an oversight at installation according to Don.

We own an older home in the Dundee area of Omaha. We purchased a new "Heat-Pump" in 2008 from Aksarben ARS. Aksarben ARS engineered the solution, and sold us a unit based upon the size of our home, the amount of insulation, and the size and type of duct work. The furnace and air conditioning combination unit has been good; however, our issues have been around improper ducting and venting. In addition, we have had numerous issues with the external humidification unit.
We had issues in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 with the original humidification unit installed by Aksarben in 2008. We spent money on new filters, service calls, and replacement parts. None of this resolved our issues.
In the spring of 2012, we engaged Aksarben ARS and the manufacture Aprilaire to try and find a solution. Aksarben made a promise to us that a new unit would resolve our issues. We installed the new unit in May of 2012.
We again struggled in the winter of 2012 with humidification. Aksarben had numerous technician on site in October 2012, December 2012, February 2013, and March 2013 attempting to resolve the issues.
In March 2013, the problem was associated with a manufacturer defect. Aksarben replaced a number of parts and we were promised that this unit was fixed. Spring came and the unit was disengaged by Aksarben.
We had Aksarben back on site in October 2013 to reengage the unit. We experienced issues 48 hours after the technician left our home. We had Aksarben back on site on December 4. We again experienced issues 48 hours after the technician left our home.
We called in on December 9 to explain our situation. We stated that we were flexible on time, but needed Aksarben to schedule a technician that was familiar with our Aprilaire 800. We received a call back on December 9 that a technician would be dispatched on December 17 who was aware of the problems, history, and be fully qualified to fix the unit.
The Aksarben technician arrived today, December 17, with very little knowledge of our problems. The technician immediately called "Don", as Jerry was not familiar with the error codes. After 30 minutes, the technician stated that "there were no issues"; despite the unit displaying red flashing lights, squealing, and displaying a solid red service light. The technician stated that the unit was "operating as designed" and that it was "fully functional"; despite our home being at 22% humidity and the unit being set at a level 7.
We were extremely frustrated and asked the technician to leave. We asked Jerry to have his manager call us to discuss next steps. It took another 30 minutes for us to receive a call from Phil.
We proceeded to opened a case with Aprilaire. Based upon the error codes, Aprilaire is recommending a full cleaning, a replacement canister, and a new tap be made on the cold water supply. Aprilaire asked to be engaged on this incident. Aprilaire can be contacted toll-free at 1(800)334-6011, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m. Central Standard Time.
We have also talked with Melinda at Aprilaire, (608) 310-6175. She also recommends replacing the canister, cleaning, a new tap that is properly supported, and a new membrane switch.
Melinda has offered to speak with Don and Phil, cover this issue under warranty, and make available a senior Aprilaire technician who fully understands the error codes.
In the end Aksarben was onsite more than 20 times and never did resolve the problems. Aprilaire replaced the unit and everything has been operational since the unit replacement has been installed.

We hope you will still consider using aksarben for all your heating, cooling and plumbing needs in the future. aksarben / ARS Customer Service"
I won't be using them in the future.
"Mr. [member name removed], The coupon you purchased from our storefront was for $50 off of a ticket totaling $100 or more for HVAC or Plumbing services or repairs. The estimated cost of your service, as noted in your review, was $90. The service has to be at least be $100 in order to receive the $50 off. If we are misunderstanding your review or what transpired on your initial call, please give us call. We want to make sure that there are no misunderstandings. Our intent is to provide the best customer service possible. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you."
Also, prior to this, I was getting new furnace bids for our previous house. Aksarben's bids were double the other companies.
I have been an Aksarben annual service agreement customer for 12 years. I have always found the technicians that check my heater and air conditioner to be knowledgeable and fair. Every now and then they do the "hard sell" for additional products (e.g., carbon monoxide monitor), but nothing over the top.
Last year, when renewing my annual heating/air agreement, I decided to add their plumbing option. As we were preparing to sell our house this spring, our agent suggested replacing the two-tone (gold/silver) faucets in our master bathroom for something more modern. Bought two new faucets at Lowes and called Aksarben to have a plumber come install them. This is existing plumbing - you turn off the water, pull out what is there, and install the new ones. My wife said the technician was here for 75 minutes - 15 of that was his doing paperwork. When he handed my wife the paperwork, he said that the cost of replacing the two faucets was $436. Including paperwork time, this works out to $350 PER HOUR. My wife, not knowing better, wrote a check. The following day, I left messages with the plumbing manager. After some phone tag, we were able to talk. The delay was good since it gave me time to calm down. The manager explained that their price is per installation item and is not based on time to do the item. Hence, the first faucet installation was $200 and the second $180. I did not even think to ask when setting up the appointment since I assumed it would be an hourly rate - $120 for the whole job. The technician did not even wipe the sinks after installation. On top of that, they charged me $13 for taking away my two faucets - the technician did not offer to my wife to put them in our trash. Overall, I feel absolutely cheated and swindled and told this to the manager.
The manager agreed that the technician should have told my wife about the cost ahead of time. He indicated he would give me a 10% refund (though as a service customer, I am entitled to a 10% discount which I don't think was originally applied). To his credit, he did get me a check the following week. As such, my cost came down to $390.
As a result of this incident, I will not be renewing my annual agreement with them and will suggest you do not use their plumbing services unless the costs are outlined ahead of time.

"When we are called out to a customer’s home, we explain to the customer before the appointment is booked that he/she will be charged a service fee. Once the problem is diagnosed at the customer’s home, our plumbers provide an estimate for the repair costs. We stand by our products and services by guaranteeing our work. We are sorry that we did not meet your expectations, but if you do have further questions or concerns, please give us a call at 402-331-1233."
I got an A/C system check from Aksarben in May 2013. I have 2 A/C units for the house so this service cost $124.00 total. I was informed one of the A/C units was only 80% filled with Freon, and it was probably filled incorrectly when installed. This made sense as the upstairs always seemed harder to cool in the summer.
My problem began about 2 months later when I electrical bill skyrocketed. My average kilowatt usage literally went from 31 per month to 63 per month. This kilowatt use rate stayed high until the end of the air-conditioning season. After the A/C season my monthly usage dropped down to 20 kilowatts. That's when I determined there was a leak. Aksarben came out to my house and agreed I have a refrigerant charge. Their solution was to charge me $1,500.00 (minimum) to find & fix the leak, or I could expect to pay about $6,000.00 for a new A/C unit.
There is a high likelihood Aksarben caused my leak during their discounted A/C system check. I will need to get a new A/C unit, but I will go elsewhere.
He found a very small crack in the heat exchanger, which I observed as well so their practice is to call a second tech to verify it. The second tech showed up and asked the first tech why he hadn't removed the burners. The first tech essentially said "it was too hard." The second tech also observed the crack and left (he was much more professional than the tech doing the job).
I signed some paperwork indicating I knew the heat exchanger was cracked and the tech was supposed to reassemble the furnace and put it back in working order. The cracks were very minor and the fire box of a furnace operates at a slightly negative pressure while the air the furnace circulates into your house is at a slightly positive pressure so I wasn't too worried about carbon monoxide poisoning despite the techs effort to convince me this was an emergency.
He tried to convince me that he didn't feel comfortable leaving unless I made an appointment to have someone come out and discuss all my options (i.e., buy a new furnace from them). Finally I agreed to and low and behold the lady on the phone said they could get someone out that very day (it was late afternoon). I told her a week was the soonest I could meet with them.
Fast forward, two days later (Sunday, November 17, 2013). I keep my house on the cool side and hadn't really paid any attention to if the furnace was working. Well, I turned up the heat and low and behold it's not. Called Aksarben and was told by the on call Tech that they don't work on furnaces with cracked heat exchangers. Anyway he had me go through some trouble shooting procedures over the phone, which did not work. I do think he gave it his best effort. Finally towards the end of that exercise, I notice a bracket laying inside the furnace and a loose screw. See pictures. I don't think the first tech did anything except try to find a cracked heat exchanger so they could sell me a new furnace.
November 19, 2013 Update
The tech I talked to on the phone Sunday showed up to find out why my furnace wasn't working. He found a rag that the first tech had stuffed in the blower motor that kept the blower from running. He also found that the first tech hadn't plugged in a control plug. See service ticket that I've attached. This certainly wasn't good on the blower motor to get start demands yet be unable to run because a rag was stuffed in the fan. Anyway, I called Monday to ask for my money back and was told they would take the price of the "System Check" off the price if I purchased a furnace from them.
I'm quite sure they knew their isn't a snow ball's chance in h*** that I will do that. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS! Angies list has many other HVAC companies that will do a good job but not this one.
