Do It All Handyman

On October 12, 2010 we contracted Jim and Sheri Smith owners of Do It All Handyman to build and install a pergola on the back of our house. During the consultation, Jim drew a simple sketch of what the pergola would look like.  After that consultation, the Smiths had to go see Jim's father who they said was very ill.  About 2 weeks later we received an e-mail photo of what the bracket of the pergola would look like.  I talked to Shari over the phone to clarify my understanding of the design and sent an e-mail saying it would be okay. After that we received a call from Sheri saying that Jim's father was still very ill and that they wouldn't be able to get to the job right away and she asked if we'd like her to send our check back.  We told her that we would be willing to wait a little while and have not heard from her since.  Because that  "little while" grew to more than a little while and during that time we never heard from the Smiths via phone or email, we called and left a voice message that we would like our money refunded.  My husband left two other messages, one on 12/10 and one on 1/10.  We also sent and e-mail on 2/23/11 to [email protected] requesting the return of our deposit.    To date we have received no response. The phone number they gave us in October (910) 599-5004 is not longer in service; the phone number on the Angie's list sited (866) 952-5478 is no longer in service. I see that you have an address on for them of 4505 Kings Drive, Wilmington 28405.  I will send a letter to them at that address. Thank you for any help you can give us in getting our $800 back. In early October we hired  Do It All Handyman to powerwash and paint the trim on our house.  The Smiths did not do the work themselves but subcontracted a young man to do it.  He did a decent job and the Smiths gained our trust.  That is why we felt comfortable in paying them 1/2 of the cost of the pergola up front.  Perhaps that is their game--gain trust and then take the money and run. The young man who did that job told me that the Smiths would be moving and he would be taking over the company.  I have no contact info for him. Linda Tarrall

We paid $800 upfront in the form of a check with the remainder to be paid after the completion of the project.  At the time they were hired to do the second job we were informed that their father was very ill and they would need to travel to see him.  Shortly after (maybe 3 weeks) they informed us he was still ill and offer to return our check if we wanted to cancel the project.  As were were not in a rush to complete the project we said no.  After another month passes we decided we couldn't wait any longer and would in fact like a refund.  We have tried to call and email a number of time with no response.  This has been going on for 6 months now.  Beware of Shari Smith and Do It All Handyman, they will take your money and disappear!
