Air Experts Heating & Cooling

My 7-year-old heat pump/AC had stopped cooling. The Air Expert service tech (I apologize for misplacing his name) arrived right on schedule and did a thorough examination of the system. He was very professional and understanding yet advised that repairing the system would be more costly and less reliable in the long haul than replacing. I verified this with a close friend in the commercial HVAC industry for a second opinion and he agreed 100% with the AirExpert tech's findings and recommendation. Dave Hepner arrived the next day right on schedule to discuss my options. He carefully laid out the potential costs and risks of repairs vs. replacement. He gave me a variety of equipment and financing options with absolutely no pressure whatsoever. We managed to stay within my budget restraints and closed a win-win deal in less than two hours. I was frankly annoyed at the necessity of the the exchange, but couldn't be happier with the way Dave handled it. Dave scheduled my installation for the next morning and left his personal phone number in case I had any problems or questions. Installers Ryan and Adulfo arrived, again right on schedule (This is a habit with these guys, apparently) the next day to install the new system. Ryan and Adulfo introduced themselves and explained the day's process to me and got straight to work. I was so comfortable with both Ryan and Adulfo that I left for an hour to run an errand leaving the house open for them. As a retired cop, I don't generally trust so easily. They made it easy. They finished right on schedule. Ryan explained the new system to me and walked me through the settings. I've used AirExperts for a couple of years, now, and have not yet had a single reason to regret that first call. Friendly, professional, thorough, reliable ... and most of all, honest. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Scheduled original appointment for a 2 hour window. Got a call that the technician was running late and had to reschedule. On reschedule date, the technician called and said he would arrive ahead of schedule which was not an issue. The technician performed everything required in a professional manner and provided an assessment of what I should be aware of.

Lyon arrived on time and did an outstanding job. My only reason for not giving Air Experts an "A" in this instance is that it took two tries for me to get the kind of experience that I had hoped to get the first time. Just be sure to set expectations up front and I am sure Air Experts will serve you well.

The service was very good. He was very kind, very good,and very thorough. The work turned out very good, he was very thorough, and he found no problems. The interactions with the provider were very good, he was very professional. I didn't spend any more than the $55 of the big deal.

They charged $75 me for a fuse but this didn't solve the problem. They then said the repair would be $700. The technician was really nice and on time but I found another company that did it much cheaper with a warranty so I will never do business with this company.

Purchased 2 deals, as I have 2 units - they scheduled the service promptly after purchase. Service Tech was on time and friendly as well as professional. He gave feed back and wasn't pushy about other products/services -which I appreciated. I would gladly use them again.

***UPDATE***: Air Experts responded very quickly to my review here and on the BBB site. I got a call from the owner of the company apologizing for the issues I had with the installation and financing. According to him, he thought the problem had been handled already. It wasn't perfectly clear how he thought it had been handled, but he assured me that my satisfaction was his top priority and promised to immediately pay the financed amount down to $6300 (the amount we originally expected for the system we thought we were having installed). He asked if there was more they could do, but I told him this was all I would have asked for. The credit to the account showed up the next day. While I am happy with the way things finally turned out, the difficulty with communicating with the company prevents me from giving them an A. I feel that they made a mistake and ultimately did everything they should have done to make up for it. As I told the owner, this all would have been avoided if, after I called to tell them to go ahead with the installation but before they actually came out, they had simply sent me the final estimate for the system they thought I was asking them to install. I would have seen that it was not what I was expecting, called them, cleared it up, and ultimately probably would have gone with the Carrier system we had originally been thinking about. This is a lesson for me as well. I should always confirm 100% what work is being done before I allow someone to start in on my house. Next time I will certainly be more careful. It went exceptionally poorly. First, the salesperson came to our house for an estimate (Feb. 22). They seemed very nice and upfront about everything. They were very keen on showing us that they were number 1 on Angie's List and had more AL reviews than any other heating and air company in the area (about 1000). Consequently, I imagine this review will get buried and never read. However, the salesperson stayed out our home for over 3 hours! I felt uncomfortable asking them to leave, because I had no idea if that would affect what kind of deal they might give us. In any event, we talked about several systems and eventually decided that a 15 SEER Carrier system seemed like the way to go, based on the salesperson's recommendation and some Consumer Reports ratings they had with them. When they finally left, they told us they would email the estimate. The next day, they did indeed email the estimate with all of the information we had discussed. We wanted to get at least one other estimate, so we contacted another heating and cooling company and had them come out and give us some. Their prices were not quite as good and neither was their labor warranty (1 year vs. 5 years). So, we decided to go with Air Experts. We had to wait a couple weeks before confirming with them due to our busy schedules. In that time, the Air Experts salesperson sent us another estimate, claiming they had a good deal for us (March 23). The estimate listed a 15 SEER Lennox system for $5500. The same SEER rating for $500 less seemed like a great idea at the time. I called and scheduled the installation (April 1). When I called, there was terrible wind noise coming from the other end, but I was able to confirm a 15 SEER Lennox unit would be installed, presumably the only one for which we had an estimate. The installation came and went. There were no problems during the actual install. However, within 2 weeks, the unit failed and would no longer heat or cool the house. Air Experts did send someone out to fix the unit at no cost (the warranty applies here, I assume). During this time, we received the bill for the services. $7000!! Now, I should say that we had discussed financing terms that allowed a flat 15% interest to be applied at the beginning of the 60 month term, so we were expecting around $6350 on a $5500 principal. We also saw that the price for the system was listed as $6000, which was the same price as the Carrier system and would represent no real 'deal' at all over the Carrier system that the salesperson expressly recommended. We also received a credit card in the mail with a balance of $7000 and no other explanation! I immediately called and email Air Experts. I was told the salesperson I had dealt with before would contact me. I waited several days and called and emailed again. Again, I was told the salesperson would contact me. Finally, after a third contact, someone else called me back and, while very apologetic and polite, they basically told me they would pay $100 on the $7000 financed total to bring it in line with the original $6000 estimate. Further, they informed me that the equipment that was installed was not any of the equipment for which I had an estimate! They told me they would discuss things with their boss and get back to me the next day (April 15). I should note here that they also informed me that the credit card was just something that particular bank issues with it's small loans and that the balance of $7000 would not at all be affected by the interest rate for the credit card. This would have been nice to know before my wife freaked out about it! I called and emailed after I wasn't contacted the next day (April 15). Finally, today (April 21) I received an email from the first salesperson (whom I will add I asked specifically not to be contacted by, because I no longer trusted them). This email states that the $5500 system was a 13 SEER system (even though it says in the estimate 15 SEER) and what we agreed to on the phone was a 15 SEER unit (which is right), which is what was installed. However, if I had known it was going to be the same price, I would have gone with the Carrier system that the salesperson originally seemed so keen on. There has been no further offer to refund part of the difference other than the original $100 to bring the total price more in line with the estimate of the original Carrier system.

The technician was on time and acted professionally, however, it wasn't a good experience. Specifically, the technician didn't seem to know how to work on my system which is a Trane dual system heat pump. In fact, he made an adjustment to the unit which he claimed would make it run better, but it actually caused the unit to stop working entirely until I switched the unit back.

They've been good for us. They were very careful not to damage the walls when they were carrying tools and materials into the home to install a unit in the attic. The price seemed to be quite competitive.

The entire process working with Air Experts was great. I was introduced to Dave Hepner through my neighbor who recently had two of his systems replaced and he strongly recommended Dave to me even though he knew I had already met with three other contractors and was set on one. But my neighbor told me to give him a shot so around 11am on Wednesday I called Dave who told me he would be by that night. I met with Dave, the project manager for Air Experts who came to look at my existing unit and give me options. I highly recommend you ask for Dave directly as he is awesome. Sure he's a salesman, but he's a great person. We chatted for a while before he went up to see my set up and asked me what my plans with the property were. None of the other three salesmen did this. I can tell he cared about my needs as he tailored his recommendation to my specific needs with the property (I am staying here for two more years then keeping it as a rental). Once we were up he looked my entire system over and then the outside unit; he explained to me his initial thoughts and then got right down to looking at available options. This is what most impressed me about Dave and Air Experts, they have tons of options, not just 2-4 like the other guys that came by. Once he found an economical option that fit my overall budget he then went over several financing options they have through their creditor. Once again, Dave gave me more options than the other guys. He also looked up rebates that I was entitled to (his office fills out the forms for you) and gave me the warranty information which was good or better than everyone else. Throughout the process we continued to chat like old pals, he really makes you comfortable and want to work with him so when he was done with giving me the options it was a no-brainer for me to go with them. This was the funny part, its late in the evening, well past business hours and Dave says I can have a crew out here at 8:30 tomorrow...so my immediate thought is yeah right. Well at 8:30 the VERY next day, two Air Expert technicians were at my door with shoe covers on and drop cloths to prep my home. The guys were fast, clean and extremely professional. They took apart the unit and then another tech showed up with my new system and took off with the old one so the two original guys never left the house they just continued working. During the day, Dave also dropped by to check in on me and the service techs then we chatted for a bit before he thanked me again for his business. Once the guys were done, they checked the unit, explained some things to me and gave me their number to call in case I needed anything or had any issues. They were out the door by 5:40pm the same day and they cleaned up everything after themselves (my wife was very happy). That night Dave called me to make sure everything went well and that we were happy he also told me the office would be calling me to coordinate the Town Inspectors visit for the permit they pulled. I also received an email from his office the next morning to check in on me and explain the warranty & rebate process. I cannot say enough great things about these guys. I have owned several homes and have had to deal with several contractors but these guys really have there stuff together. If you need a reputable company that stands by their word, can deliver quality results, quickly and for a very competitive price, call these guys. There is a reason why they are #1 rated here. THANKS DAVE!!!

Jason came to the door and introduced himself. He was very nice and helpful. He fixed the system and explained details about the system and why it was acting up. He did some work on the system and he talked with me and my husband. We paid the bill and he left. It was a good experience and I will use them again.

Both technicians that came out were porfessional and it was easy to schedule an appointment. The first time they came out no issues were found. The issue happened again, the second technician stated the computer system was the problem and would need to be replaced if not now eventually.

Everything turned out well with the service. They were very proactive and called us shortly after we purchased the deal, their technician showed on time, and the work was done as promised.

They came out, repaired it and got it going again but recommended to replace it. They replaced it the same week. Everyone I dealt with was friendly and courteous. I have waited 3 months to do this review because the sales guys said that they could get me a substantial rebate from CP&L/Progress Energy/Duke Power which came in the mail yesterday. They also got me a tax break and the cost of the repair was deducted from the sales price. Our house is now nice and toasty and my power bill has gone down.

Jason, the Air Experts technician, provided spring HVAC service and changed the filter. Per contract, the only cost this time was for the whole house filter. Jason was excellent. Recommend him highly.

Air Experts Heating & Cooling had a promotional coupon for a tuneup/maintenance for A/C or heating systems. We have a split system so I bought two. We exchanged a couple emails and set-up a date for the service. (Although I didn't receive a confirmation email so I did have to call them.) Kyle from Air Experts came on the date and time scheduled. He was very professional and thorough. I asked him for an estimate for a couple other related issues while he was here. He provided me an approximate cost for those as well. He did a great job and probably spent nearly 2.5 hours cleaning and tuning the systems. He went through each system very carefully. After he was finished he provided me his analysis and suggestions. Overall, I'm very pleased with the service. Often it seems like these groups try to sell you something or add additional items that need fixed while they are here. While Kyle did mention some parts probably need replaced he was very upfront about how long they would probably last and even said that we could get other estimates from other companies for comparisons. That's something I can appreciate.

It was very good. There were no additional charges. They were prompt, they were very polite, they were pleasant, and seemed to know what they were doing. I said I wanted them to do the other one as well instead of just the heating, so they called their boss, and asked if they would ahead, and they did that. All in all, it was a positive experience. They were pretty good. I would have liked it a little bit less, but I think the price was good.

It was great, they were good. I did not pay any additional charges. They were very helpful. They were very friendly, openly talking about other issues we had and offering our prices and disclosing everything upfront.

I knew from previous experience that the part I needed replaced would be $350. I called them and they came out within 20 minutes, after he got here he said he would have to go out and get a part. I asked him how much the part was, he said $450. I went ahead and paid for it, though I knew I was being overcharged. I just needed the service done.

Our second floor A/C was not turning on. Curtis was prompt and friendly and took time to explain the problem and how the safety worked on the unit. We reset it, and things turned on minutes later.

:Air Experts diagnosed the problem as a safety air flow thermostat in the flu, he also mentioned the compressor had too much Freon, so he had to removed some of the gas. Note the Heat pump historically had a small leak and it had been 2 years since it was recharged!. He installed the new thermostat and adjusted the blower to speed it up and within a few hours, the same symptom appeared. This time he recommended cleaning the blower might fix it. That appeared to solve the problem. Then less that a week after the repair, the compressor stopped running. I felt it was very strange that the failure appeared after he had to bleed off an overcharged compressor. I decided to use a different repair service as I had lost faith in Air Makers and called another HVAC service organization to fix the problem. The determined the compressor had frozen (seized up). I had to replace the entire Heat Pump system..

It turned out well and he did everything that needed to be done. He was a nice & friendly guy. He took his time and told me what needed to be done. He had to make a run to get a part while was here. He was right on time for his appointment too.

Overall I was pleased with the work and the service, with a few minor exceptions. After signing up for a deal on Angie's List I promptly received an email asking for more information and possible service dates. On the day of service the technician came out and was very nice and up front about the issue and costs. It was raining that day, and the tech had to go through the backyard to get to the crawlspace to access the furnace. When the technician came back his shoes were a little muddy and he tracked a little mud in the house (not a lot but it was noticeable). It would have been nice if they had put on some kind of shoe cover before coming inside. We had also just had our crawlspace encapsulated and everything was really clean in the crawlspace, but I also noticed a little mud tracked in there as well. After telling me what was wrong, the tech informed me that he would have to order a part and return at a later date. I think a week or two went by and I hadn't heard back from them, so I had to call them to get status. The first time I called I was promised a call back that day, but didn't get one. I called them back the next day, and they said they would call me back again which they did. They scheduled another appointment and came out and did the work. The same tech did the work and there were no hidden charges or anything. I would go through this company again for additional work. The way the work was handled, the up front costs, and no hidden fees really goes a long way with me on this type of job. I've had bad experiences in the past with others working on A/C and furnace issues. (Not exactly sure that the date of service is accurate.)

We found Air Experts here on Angie's List. We purchased a special they were offering at the time on this site around 5pm on Wednesday. We were called on Thursday morning and were scheduled for a consultation appointment that afternoon. The systems were installed on Friday morning. Patrick (sales/consultant) was great. He answered all of our questions. He was able to work the price in such a way that we received both the AC and the furnace plus a whole-house filter for about the same as a competitor quoted for the AC alone. Installation was a little more involved. Apparently, our builders installed the furnace and then built the house around it. They had to rip it out piece by piece. By the end of the day however, we had a working AC and furnace. The only reason we gave a B for quality is because the fan is a little noisy. The A/C outside is quieter than our previous system, so I guess it's a trade-off.

The provider was not able to fix the problem the day he came out (because the part had to be ordered), but he gave us enough freon to cool down our very hot house (to help our twin babies sleep)! So grateful!
