$59 trip charge is fair given that it can be applied to the cost of the repair if undertaken with them. They failed to mention, before they came out, that they do not unmount and remount TV's in order to do the repair -- evidently no TV repair company does that. It would have been helpful to know that before they came out as after the fact we found companies charging a minimum of $75 per hour for unmount/waiting around time/remount time up to $400 charge by Best Buy because the TV is mounted on a stone wall over a fireplace. Cheaper to replace than repair. Wouldn't have spent the $59. When I called today to ask them to waive or halve their fee, it was intimated that I should have known to ask them if their service included needing to take down the tv.
Response from A Plus TV Repair
"If your television is mounted 8 feet off the ground, and it took two people to originally mount the TV then why not have the consideration to make the service company aware of your special circumstances when calling. 99% of TV's are not mounted that high. The ones that are not and are reachable from the floor, we WILL actually assist the customer to take the TV off the wall but only if they are willing and able to assist, and we may be the only TV repair company that will even do that much. At no additional charge. Also, if it originally cost that much to have a large TV mounted then why would you ever expect to pay only $59 to have it unmounted, the problem diagnosed, then remounted for you? Did you know the costs already and were just trying to get something done for nothing? Common sense should tell you sending out two people, with ladders, to perform the work you were expecting would cost a whole lot more than $59. Your statement that your TV was cheaper to replace than repair is not true. The estimate i quoted you to replace the main circuit board was less than half of a COMPARABLE replacement TV. Your mounting costs are irrelevant because any TV you buy would have to be mounted and have nothing to do with repairing your old TV. The type of problem your TV had did not even require the TV to be unmounted in order to diagnose the problem. We did not come out and tell you we could not perform service and charge you anyway. You just did not want to pay someone to take it down and remount it again after we returned with parts to complete the repair. Your insistence that we refund our trip fee after driving out and performing the service we promised to do and doing it correctly and professionally is ridiculous. Your failure to make us aware in advance of your unique circumstance is not our fault."

Determined what the problem was in the first visit, also identified where the prior repair shop had changed boards on the TV when they could not fix the TV. Secured a replacement board under a special program from the manufacturer and tested unit, found the changed board (from prior repair shop) was another problem ordered board and replaced. Excellent service, very complete in the trouble shooting, explained everything that was found and potential causes and problems.

I have found a new service for all TV and computer repairs. They work in the home, contact about scheduling appointments is excellent, follow up great. Always call when they are on the way and always show up in the scheduled timeframe. Very neat and clean while working in your home.
