I would certainly use this company for all of my HVAC, fireplace and electrical needs in the future.
Job was finished in 2 mornings.
Carpet and stairs were covered and protected.
All upstairs unit registers were vacuumed under for loose insulation.
Carpenter reframed attic access the following day.
Caulked and painted.
The owner who came to quote the repair work within hours of our initial call, spotted problems with the home's original duct work. Then he had to deliver the bad news that the repair job was going to exceed our budget. He did so professionally and compassionately. After discussion, he wrote a proposal to install a new heat pump. Although expensive (Why does everything always have to cost so much?), his proposal seemed wise and reasonable.
After almost two months the unit--which is fully warranted for 10 years--has performed faultlessly. (It was this extended warranty, made available to us at such an attractive cost that convinced us to replace the old unit.)
Outstanding.
When I decided to use A&E, we agreed on a date and he said it would be a 1.5 day job.
They arrived right on time on Monday the 13th, and started right in. There were 3 or 4 men in the crew - some began work under the house, and some worked to remove the old unit and build the new concrete pad. One guy came in and went into the attic to seal up the ductwork while it was still fairly cool in the morning - after that they did not come into the house again except to install the thermometers and train me in their use.
The crew boss stopped at one point to tell me that they had found bad connections between the ductwork and the air vents into the house, and would be replacing some of them.
When I looked out, the back yard appeared to have been bombed, and all of them were hard at work. They stayed hard at work till about 7pm. Then as they were cleaning up the yard, the boss came in to train me on using the thermometers. I was confused - they surely weren't done, I'd been told it was a day and a half job! But they were. They said the boss told them to get it done today, period. Given that the temps were in the high 90's, I REALLY appreciated that!
They cleaned up the mess completely, and they dug up and removed the old unsightly drain pipe. They even took away some large packing boxes that I had, that I couldn't fit into my recycling bin.
A couple of days later, blissfully cool, I noticed that there were some outlets on one wall not working, and my computer was periodically shutting down. Knowing they had done electrical work, I called. Their electrician (not a subcontractor, but an employee) came right out. One of the circuit breakers wasn't quite closed - that fixed the outlet issue. He did some investigation on the circuitry on the computer outlet, and concluded that my UPS was failing (he was right, too - I've replaced it and had no further problems).
Then the city inspected and failed them - the markings on the electrical panel indicated that the heat pump MAY have been connected to the wrong size circuit. Well, the markings on my electrical panel were very poor anyway - little was marked and much of it was wrong. An electrician from A&E came right out. Not only did he verify that the heat pump was on the correct circuit, he assisted me in marking some of the other unmarked circuits. When the city inspected a second time, they passed with flying colors.
I'm very pleased with the work they did. I'm also very pleased with their responsiveness, good manners, and professionalism. And I'm delighted with the new unit - and looking forward to being as cozy warm this winter as I am comfortably cool right now. Strongly recommended.
I could've gotten away with paying lesser from other providers, than I had to, but I believe the service I received is worth what I paid. I will most certainly reach out to these guys and specifically Russ P.
