Description of Work: Trimmed a number of trees and cleared away tree debris/damage caused by last year's ice storm. After one appointment time was re-scheduled - delayed due to weather, they arrived on-time and quickly completed all the previously agreed upon tasks. They were very professional and did an excellent job.

Went very well.
Description of Work: I have used JD Mills on two occassions this year and have found them to be easy to work with. They came out and provided a quote on the spot for tree removal and stump grinding and we able to schedule my work quickly. They do exactly what they indicate, and I had no issue with them at all. They do provide the necessary paperwork on insurance coverage and worker's comp when asked (always ask to protect yourself - no matter who you use). I would absolutely use them again if I need their services.

We bought this house in late 2005 knowing we'd have to re-landscape the front yard. Fortunately, my brother is a designer whose expertise includes landscapes, so he designed it for us. My brother had had J. D. Mills Expert Tree Service ("Mills"), tame their massive 70-ft Willow Oak as well as plant a number of other trees, all of which were successful, so he recommended Mills to me. I talked to a few other contractors, and selected Mills. Now, mind you, I know a lot about planting landscaping plants, and pruning trees, and have done a lot of it as well, and had I been younger, I might have opted to do the planting, but with age comes wisdom, and it was going to be a lot of work and taken a lot of time, and I had already worked hard building the berm and doing some of the soil prep work, so it was time to "outsource" the balance of the heavy lifting. Mills did an excellent job, evinced by the fact that out of all those planted the Mills crew planted, not one has died, and I'm writing this on May 17, 2010! (I don't write reviews until all results are in). It is a;; the more remarkable, as I was not in a position to do much watering at all during the drought of 2008! Since Mills is primarily a tree work contractor, I should relate in detail that they really know how to prune trees. He is truly an arborist, as opposed to someone who dosn't know how to properly prune trees. That's where the seemingly uppitiness in the company's name, "EXPERT" Tree Service, comes from, I suppose. But it's true, and it is crucial when getting tree work done. The cuts are made so the wound will heal properly. Mills made only one heading cut, to eliminate a competing leader on a medium-sized willow oak. That was the exact number than was required, IMHO. Mills knows how to thin a tree to reduce the amount its "sail" so that the wind won't blow it down, yet not butcher it and then give you the lame excuse, "but they always come back." They know how to shape trees for beauty without wreaking havoc with a tree's natural growth habit. They know how much of the tree they can prune without causing a bloom of suckers and water spouts. He does not use the now-discredited black wound seal paint. Mills knows all that I know they should know plus a whole bunch more stuff I don't know, and, most likely, all he needs to know and more. "Expert," indeed. Mills also does a very good job of clean-up and haul-away. He has a number of supervisors who have been with him for years. It is my understanding that he has done a lot of tree work for High Point University. Since installing the front yard landscaping in the fall of 2006, Mr. Mills has driven by twice when I've been out in the front yard, on the way to or from another job or estimate. He and I enjoy admiring how well it all turned out. Mr. Mills loves his trees and plants, and it shows.
Description of Work: 1. Front-yard major tree pruning incl. two tall 50-ft.+ willow oaks 2. Installation of front yard landscaping incl. planting some new trees-- 1 15' willow oak, 6 very tall, mature crepe myrtles, 3 dogwoods, and 3 Nellie Stevens holly trees-- plus shrubbery -- incl 4 laurelpedala and approx 18 burford hollies-- and groundcover--approximately 150 blue-rug junipers. 3. Mr. Mills thought we needed a meandering slatestone path from the front yard to the side yard, so he threw that in. I suspect he does things like that. In addition, two years ago we had Mills back to remove a large, tall sycamore tree from the back yard that had fallen down. They did so quickly, neatly, and flawlessly, which was quite a feat, as the main trunk was perching precariously over a fence as well dangerously close to a persimmon tree we didn't want harmed.
