Elegant Floors

The owner, Darin Grimes, appears to be knowledgeable about flooring. However, he expects you to be available at a moment's notice in order to do your work. I had a large flooring job and I couldn't get him to give me any kind of time frame for when he would finish. Finally when I tried to get him to commit to a schedule he canceled the contract, leaving me with a bunch of plywood upstairs that he bought but didn't install.

Long process due to humidity problems, but we were kept informed at each step of the way. The end result was well worth the wait. During the whole process, the installer was 100% professional. He is a perfectionist and that came across in all of our dealings with him. His name is on the product and he stands by what he does.

The hardwoods in our new house were in dire need of refinishing. Jim Rogers from Variety Carpets had just taken measurements for new carpet in a room when I asked if he could recommend someone for the wood floors. Jim had said that Darin was very good and he would have him call me. Darin contacted me immediately and he and I met the house. He explained everything that would need to be done, discussed options, and took measurements. He evaluated an area in the kitchen that had cupped from previous water damage. He determined that no work could be done until the moisture content of that area was down to an acceptable level. He told us to put a fan on the area and he would check back several days later. After one (or two) more meetings at the house to check the moisture content, he advised that those boards would need to be removed in order for the sub-floor to dry. We gave him the go-ahead and he took out as many boards as we both felt needed to come out. Sure enough, the floor underneath was holding moisture as well. We put the fan back on it for a week while we went on vacation. Darin called when he knew we were back and had had a few days to rest. We met again at the new house and he determined that the floor was good to go. Darin started sanding on a Monday and applied the last finish coat on Friday. He helped me decide on a stain color that would best match the stairs (he was very patient while I pondered). And speaking of stairs, there were 3 corners that a dog had chewed. Darin recommended that we use a "stair guy" that he knows (Reid Herring - who was great, also) to replace those stair pieces. We had daily contact and he was always willing to answer questions and give updates. He was very professional, knowledgeable, polite, and honest. I had no reservations about letting him have a key for the whole week. Finally, about 2 weeks later, he brought me a gallon of special cleaner and explained the best way to use it on the floors. Darin's service and attention to detail was outstanding. The whole experience as great!
