In December of last year I needed some repair work done to my oven door and also needed someone to take a look at an old drink machine that I had. Over 2 trips the technicians from Bud Matthews Service were able to assess the situation, advise on the best course of action, and make the repairs at a very fair price. I would recommend Bud Matthews Service and would definitely utilize them in the future.
Description of Work: In December of last year we were experiencing an issue with our oven as well as an estimate of repair for an old drink machine.

Service was required on the dishwasher as it was not getting dishes clean. The technician found that the heating element was cracked and replaced it. The dishes still did not get clean. We had to call another service person to remedy the situation, as this company did not feel that additional investment in repairs was warranted. The fix ended up being a relatively simple matter that required no parts. There seemed to be poor communication between the technician and the service manager. In fairness, we will note that the original bill the company submitted to was adjusted to include only the diagnostic call and the heating element that was installed.

It was a great service. They did this service in my grandmother's house. I spoke with them over the phone. They were nice over the phone. They were very fast. They were willing to go over to my grandmother's house and bill me over the phone. It was all done on the same day. That was very convenient. They were prompt. Their work is holding up fine, there are no problems. I would definitely use them in the future.

I called Bud Mathews Inc. on a Saturday evening after several dealings with Another Residential Services bad service. Bud came out that day and assessed the problem. The rusted out coil needed replacing not just filling. Bud gave me a quote, which I agreed to and he ordered the part. Tuesday at 8am a technician was at my door to install the coil and do an overall check of my system. I was very pleased with the technicians exceptional service. He took great care in bringing things in from the truck and up to the attic. He wiped his feet, didn't bang against walls and made sure he cleaned up everything when he was finished. The job took about 3 hours to complete. There was no nickel and diming, no extra charge everytime a piece of equipment came off the truck like others do, and the price was 20% cheaper than what Another Residential Service quoted. It was just good old fashioned quote and fix the problem. Bud and the technician who did the install were also conscientious about the environment and freon exposure. They both stated that the other service should have never refilled a coil with such a big leak. I will definately call on them in the future. In this day and age it's good to know that there are still reliable people who provide great service!
Description of Work: Assessed the HVAC system in my attic for leaks, replaced the rusty leaking coil with a new coil, filled the system with freon.

i had quotes from several companies but Bud Mathews gave me a feeling of confidence up front and were in the lower segment of quotes. they ordered the parts and then arranged a time to install. two workmen turned up, placed covers on the floor to protect carpet and hardwoods, worked for about two hours and said they were done. the AC was working again this was obvious and looking around the house you couldnt tell they had even been there. very professional, instant feeling of trust, very happy with the result

There was something wrong with the computer required them to come back 4-5 times and ordering different parts with different technicians, so it took them some time to actually figure out what was going on; but in the end they did get to the bottom of it and fixed it. They gave me the guarantee, and they didn't charge me for the missed up. They thought it was one thing and it turned out not to be that, so that made them not to charge me more. They came out four times, but they only charged me to come out once. I would recommend others that they are reliable, and people could trust them to do the job as well as to get to the bottom. I have used them several times, and every other time i have used them, they have been seamless. They did the best job they could.

The work was not done. The man left. I will never hire them again for anything.
Description of Work: The appointment was for replacement of the wood under the kitchen sink in the cabinet, sealing two bathtubs and around the sinks, sealing a area outside the back door, putting a spring-hinge on a door. None of it was performed. No one showed up even though the appointment was for first thing in the morning, about 8:00 a.m.. At 2:30 p.m. I called and they said, "We'll send someone over right now." At 3:10 p.m. a representative showed up. He said, "Well, I have a piece of plywood that would do it, but it's not cabinet quality." I said, "No, I want cabinet quality". He went out, got his tape-measure and came in and said, "Well, this will cost you more. I have to go buy that. I charge by the hour." then he went in to measure. He came back into the room I was sitting in and said, 'Well, you know, I get off work at 4:00 p.m. I won't have time to get this done today. I'll just come back tomorrow." I said, "No, I have to work tomorrow. I waited all day for you. It should have been done." He left.

I was very pleased with Bud Matthews Service. This was the first time I used them. I would thoroughly recommend them. They were on time and did what they said they would do. They got the part and came back the following week to repair it. I remembered seeing their trucks in my neighborhood all the time, which is what first struck me to call. I called them because of Angie's List. I have not used anyone else so I have no comparison for their price.

They came out when we needed and took the time to assess the situation. I think they told us what was really true about our refrigerator and that there really wasn't anything much that we could do to fix it. They seemed to be perfectly good in terms of responsiveness, timeliness, and professionalism. They did the job as well as they could, but they were not too cheap. I would recommend them to others, though.

He agreed to and did come during the one hour I had free that day. He took dryer apart quickly and agreed to come back as soon as belt came in. When his employee told him about the broken heating element, he told him not to charge me for that day's trip or time. Element probably broke as man was vacuuming the dryer.
Description of Work: Bud himself confirmed that my old dryer needed a new belt and ordered one. He first checked heating element to see if it was worth putting money into the old dryer. A few days later his employee came to install it, but found that heating element no longer worked.

Our brand new dishwasher broke during installation and Bud came out and fixed someone else’s mess at no charge to us. He submitted a warranty claim directly with the manufacturer. I've been a client of Bud Matthews' Service for several years and when my heat went out on Christmas Eve, I called them. A technician arrived late in the afternoon and diagnosed the problem but didn't have the part on his truck to repair it because it is expensive and unusual. I had 12 people coming for dinner on Christmas and no heat! The technician gave me names of other companies to call to see if they had the part and worked on the part to see if he could get it going one more time. He did but warned me that it could go out anytime. It lasted about 8 hours before it stopped again around 11:00 Christmas Eve but that was enough for us to maintain a bearable temperature in the living spaces with space heaters and the fireplace over the holidays. First thing, Monday morning, they arrived with the part and by 10:00 a.m., we were toasty warm. It was exceptional service in every way.

I was very grateful that he cut the gas off and solved the immediate issues, but when I had 2 other service providers look at the unit both thought the unit could be repaired for significantly less money than replacing the system. Bud Matthews did not give me this option - they just gave me quotes on new systems. So I went with another provider that successfully repaired the heater for about 1/6 of the cost of a new system.
Description of Work: Our heater had stopped working and had made a very large noise the last time we tried to turn it on. I called Bud Matthews and they were very prompt in getting back to me and scheduling someone to come and look at it. When the service person was examining the heater it caught on fire. He put it out and cut off the gas for us so there would not be any safety issues and told us someone would call about an estimate for a new heating system.

Badly. The young man they sent out to do the job certainly got it done. However, it took him two trips to do a simple task. Problems: 1. All he had to do was change the circuit breaker from a dual 30 to a single 15. He didn't have the slim-line circuit breaker in his truck (really?) so this took him two trips. The second trip was almost a week after the first. The wiring was all there, nothing needed to change (except the switch to a plug). Total time spent on this: 1.75 hours!!! I have no idea what he did other than cutting the wire to the hot water heater and, for some reason, putting in another connection box and wiring that whole thing up. Again, even given time for the extra work it shouldn't have taken more than 30 minutes max. We also paid for a trip charge ($76.50) so that wasn't included in the total time. Personally, I think he just came up with time to waste and then fudged his time to increase the bill. Matthews charges on a 15 minute increment of about $43.42 / 15 minutes. (I was told I would be billed for 1 3/4 hours at $38+ per increment but if you divide $304 labor by 7 (the number of increments) it comes out to the $43.42 figure. So either Matthews over-billed or didn't do the math properly.) 2. The young man who came out and did the "work" didn't think much about what he was doing. We had two hot water heaters. They were in series so the first one fed into the second one and then into the house. Unfortunately, he cut off the second one and didn't bypass the water connections. So, for about two to three weeks (waiting for the Rinnai to get installed) we had hot water running into a cold tank before running into our house. Did I expect him to do plumbing also? No. Did I think he should've had enough experience to know what he was doing? Absolutely. In the end, he didn't. My entire experience with this company was awful. I was told they would return calls. When I did recieve them they were either days late or none at all. I was hoping to find a single firm that could take care of multiple needs. I was going to have them do some repair work on my master bath. However, after I received this bill I canceled that. Unless you enjoy paying outrageous fees, you might want to consider a different service organization.
Description of Work: I was going to use Bud Matthews to do several jobs, however, the first one I needed was to change a switch to a GFI plug-in. I was moving from electric hot water heaters to a Rinnai tankless system and needed a plug-in immediately in front of one of the current hot water heaters. Their task was to change the 30 watt connection to a 15 watt connection and change the on-off switch to a plug-in.

However, about a month later, the fridge did the same thing again, so we called them back. It was the same guy who was very embarrassed to have to return so soon. He checked the fridge out, once again, took out the part and pointed to a an area, saying,"It must have had a tiny crack in it that I couldn't see when I installed it, but once in use, it opened up." He went to the same place in his truck, did the same magic, replaced the part and didn't charge us for anything. He said that he'd never encountered two bad parts in a row with this model. We've had no issues since then.
Description of Work: We'd had an issue with our refrigerator not cooling properly. They came out immediately, said something to the effect of- "Gee you've got THAT model" and knew exactly what what wrong with it. Apparently that particular model for several years had the same simple defect. The guy went to the truck, fished around for a minute and voila! brought the part back in, took out the bad, put in the new and it was done!

We use them periodically for appliance repair and so forth. I don't remember how much we spent. Our interactions with them have been very good. Some things turned out well and some didn't do so well. They are reliable and I think that is the reason we use them regularly. They usually provide the service very promptly. They are fairly reasonable. I think it's expensive, but I have never had a great deal of comparison to go with. We would use them again in the future.

We thought the price was too high, but we were in a time crunch and had them do it anyway. Our experience with Bud Matthews has always been professional and well worth the money. We do feel that they're a bit more expensive than other services but we can always rely on them to respond when needed and to fix problems efficiently and reliably. We have had them replace faucets, install door hardware, replace outdoor lighting, fix the refrigerator and they are currently replacing our AC unit. We would recommend then to anyone looking for quality reliable service.
Description of Work: We have used Bud Matthews on several occasions for handy work in our house. Their most recent visit was to replace all of our wired in smoke detectors which were ten years old and acting up. They arrived on time, brought a tall ladder and replaced 7 smoke detectors in 30 minutes.

When service man returned 3 or 4 days later, he indicated they (probably Mr. Matthews) did not feel the motor needed replacing at this age. Therefore, the service man replaced the belt and a support spring for a final cost of $166.90.
Description of Work: 6 year old Maytag washer would not spin. When service man arrived and ran it through the various cycles, it worked okay. He said things get stuck under the agitator preventing it from spinning and later work their way free. While checking over the washer, service man felt the motor had too much "play" as it seem to move about. He recommended the motor and belt be replaced and esitmated cost at $200.00. We agreed.
