I had used Wells Fargo in Indiana for my mortgage for the house I bought in North Carolina in 2010 as well as a home equity loan with no problems. In 2013 I downsized and sold the larger home and bought a smaller home. I only needed to finance about 25% of the home price and wanted a 10 year loan. I had nothing but problems with the local Wells Fargo mortgage department (based out of Asheville although I use the Hendersonville bank and they service that bank as well.) They did not meet my closing date and on the anticipated day of closing they were requesting documents and information that I had either given or discussed with them weeks before. I had to delay my closing. When trying to set up a closing date 3 weeks later I wanted it on Monday since the sellers lived out of town and could not come on a Tuesday or Wednesday but I was told they couldn't do it Monday due to the Charlotte office was moving and they couldn't get the paperwork in time. We set it up on Tuesday and the sellers had to sign on Monday so I never met them. When I got to the lawyers office finally on the day of my closing both realtors, the lawyer and I basically sat for 2 hours as the paperwork was still not all done and the lawyers office and bank were sending documents back and forth. Finally at 5 pm we all went home after signing what I could and I had to go back the next day to finish signing paperwork. Even after the closing I got a phone call the next day from them wanting documents for a house they thought I had sold in Indiana but it had not yet been sold. At one time they even wanted information on a house that my mother owned and I was not even an owner of that house. At one point during this fiasco one of the bank vice presidents contacted me since he knew from an email that I was upset. He said he would put my case on the fast track and call me back the next day and I never heard from him again. In addition they could not give me the 10 year loan I wanted and I ended up with a 20 year loan at a higher interest rate than I was initially quoted. My realtor said this was not an isolated case and that he hates to deal with this local organization for mortgages and the closing attorney's office said the same thing, basically that they always have problems with this local Wells Fargo mortgage department.
