Very badly. Only recently did I notice that the common price in NC for a gallon of propane was about $2.40. Suburban had been charging us $4.30 and more. When we brought that to their attention they said we were low-volume users, but they would drop our price by 20 cents. We use about 250 gallons a year. We called Freeman Gas in Waynesville and had them put in a new underground tank. Their per gallon price is about $2.35 and they discount to $1.90 if you buy fairly high amount--about 300 gallons. Please shop around. My brother has been happy with Freeman for years. I can only believe Suburban is in business because people don't compare price--which was our problem.

I especially am impressed with the service I received from Michelle Jordan in their office. I had read some negative reviews about Suburban Propane but learned that they are under new management and are doing their best to prove to customers that they are a fair company with good customer service. So far, they have followed through on their promises and have provided excellent service at a competitive price. I would recommend Suburban Propane to my friends. In fact, I did, and they gave me a credit on my first propane bill.

I had no issues with them at all, they were here on time, did what they said they were going to do and that was that.

I stopped using Suburban Propane this year out of frustration with their poor service.  My propane deliveries never occurred on the day promised unless I escalated the request to an emergency status.  After going through this a couple of times I began to threaten to cancel my service.  I received a call from a local manager (the Asheville, NC area) who promised to look into why I was having problems and call me the next day, but he never called me back.  I received a variety of informal explanations from different Suburban employees that I talked to, ranging from having their routing done by people who do not understand the difficulties of navigating mountain roads to claims that customer service reps should not have promised deliveries because they intentionally over book their drivers.
Calling for service was also a source of frustration, requiring navigation through a couple of layers of menus to talk to anyone.  In general,  the customer service reps were friendly and they tried to be helpful within the constraints of the environment they were working in, however I had one encounter with a billing representative that was confrontational and unprofessional.

I used suburban in Florida without any incident at all, therefore I thought their quality would be reflected nationwide, how wrong was I. They are terrible, they don't turn up, when they eventually did they didn't finish, the work they did failed 2 inspections. I had their customer service dept on speed dial, their customer service department are very good by the way.
I felt sorry for the girls in the office because they started to run out of excuses, the bottom line is they are understaffed.
Hopefully things will be smoother from now on otherwise it's going to be a cold winter!

They are the recommend in the area. They have been wonderful at installing a new propane tank and new tanks line. They are neat, courteous, prompt, and affordable. They did a fabulous job at a reasonable price.

Had used this provider since 2005. In February of this year, they came to fill our tank. We felt we did not get as many gallons as we were told were put in the tank. We were also shocked at the price we were charged - around $4.00 per gallon. Called other providers in the area to check price and learned Suburban was charging almost twice as much per gallon. Called office and expressed concerns about price and whether we got 150 gallons because our gauge wasn't reading properly. Told the price was correct even though we informed them they were charging twice as much as other providers. Talked to maintenance supervisor about our tank and gauge several times and went through a run around for several weeks. Left messages repeatedly for manager but never received return call. Our tank ran out of gas more quickly than we had ever used gas before - usage would been almost twice as much as normal. Our concerns were never addressed, and we changed to another propane service. I saw on our local BBB website that other customers had the same complaint about being overcharged for propane during the severe snow and cold weather. They were issued reimbursements but we were never able to get anyone to address our complaint. We contacted the state of NC and learned that home propane service prices are not regulated even though it is actually a utility in the sense that it provides heating and cooking fuel for homes.
