Absolute nightmare from beginning to finish. Initially, we were happy because we were told we would get a very good interest rate on a 15 year loan. Well, after weeks went by, we learned that we would have to switch loan programs at least twice, and as a consequence our rate went up. Then we ran into problems with the closing date. As the closing date approached, we began learning that the closing might be delayed because a loan approval hadn't been reached. Closing was scheduled and planned for on our part, but I got a call the morning of the planned closing date to learn it would not take place - no reason provided at that time. Then the run arounds began. Next, we are led to believe everything is going as planned and closings will be scheduled just as soon as loan approval is attained on the property we want to purchase. Because of the delay in the first closing, we are now running up against a deadline on the possible cancellation of our contract to purchase a home because we have not closed as agreed in the sale contract. In a nutshell, before the final days of losing our property purchase, we are being strung along by Suntrust employees, assuring us they are going to get it done on time. We are virtually standing by the phone each day as this time nears to learn when and where we are going to close our loans and settle our property purchase. We had been advised by Suntrust that there was no need for us to use an attorney, and that a title company could be used instead. Later we learn that is a mistake because our agent informs us that the title company basically charges the same fees, but we don't get protections and representation that an attorney would have provided. So we are left in the dark for days and weeks as to what is happening with our loans. As we try to learn exactly what is going on we are often referred to different people, but no one can actually tell us who or what is holding up our loans, and when we might close. To make a long story short, on the last possible day we can close before we forfeit our property purchase, I am called approximately 11 AM and told we will have to drive to our closing scheduled about 2 hours from that moment, in a location that is at least one and a half hours away. It didn't stop there, but I could go on and on with this catastrophic story. In conclusion, we closed on our first loan, but had to sit around for hours more into the night time while we waited for last minute approvals and paperwork from Suntrust at the closing table (for the second loan closing). The seller's real estate agent wouldn't even give us the key to the property after closing because they had been lied to so many times by Suntrust (agent's words) that they didn't trust that they would receive their money from the sale.
