Veterinarians
Dr. Coward has been taking care of my family's pets for more than 20 years. He is an extremely compassionate, skilled veterinarian who has often gone above and beyond when taking care of our pets. I feel like he truly loves our pets and appreciates that our dog is member of our family. He is affordable and provides excellent, sensible care. His staff is friendly, wonderful and caring.

Dr. Coward and his staff are very genial, but from the start we got the impression he was more inclined to think of pets as outside animals than close family members. He was fairly nonchalant about all our animals' needs. When the problem is minor, I think every parent appreciates hearing it's nothing to worry about. However, twice our dog cut the back of her leg (once about an inch in length and again about two inches). We called his emergency number after hours and he told us not to worry about it, that dogs heal better without stitches and that he was "sorry (we) over-reacted." Each time one of our "kids" had an injury he told us not to worry about it. The last time he told me I had "over-reacted" was a couple of hours before my dog (my child, the light of our family) died in his observation rather than under his care. Our dog got out and was shot by a neighbor. We took her to an animal hospital where we were warned this was a very serious injury that could be life threatening. Their policy is to contact the regular vet and offer him the option of treating the injury, and if he was uncomfortable with it, their surgeon could operate. The ER vet told us Dr. Coward reported he had dealt with many gunshot wounds in the past and he would be able to treat our dog. I will never stop regretting allowing Dr. Coward to "treat" her. The ER vet had suggested abdominal exploration to find and repair likely damage to her organs. Dr. Coward decided not to "rush in" with surgery, but to observe her. He told me dogs get shot all the time and their organs seem to "just shift aside" often escaping with no damage. He told me he was sorry I had overreacted. So instead of trying to repair my dog, he "observed" right up until she died. If I had had any idea he had no intention of operating I would have stayed at the ER. By all means, get your farm animals treated at Pineview. Get standard treatment for the stray you don't care much about. Pick up your heart worm tabs. But if you value your pet like family, don't trust Dr. Coward with their emergencies.

I was very pleased with the service and care we received from Dr. Coward at Pineview. His staff was friendly and helpful on the phone and in person. Dr. Coward saw us right away and treated my skittish dog very kindly. He also communicated very well with me, answered all my questions, and was very knowledgeable. He diagnosed and treated my dog without doing all kinds of unnecessary tests and trying to sell me products like other vets do. His office is not frilly, but I'd rather not pay extra for "frilliness." I also like the resident Siamese watch-cat!
