Dr. Walanabe is an awesome dentist. He introduced himself, gave me a brief history and explained everything from start to finish. I will most definitely continue to see him.

The "dentistry room" was comfortable, and very nicely lit - I hate it when the lights are blinding bright when you lay back in the chair. I am a very nervous dental patient, and the dentist and the hygienist were reassuring and calming for me, so I felt fine all the time. When I left, the dentist gave me an update on likely future work, and I found that very helpful.

+ -1 moreI picked Dr. Watanabe because of reviews that he didn't hurt them. I am petrified of dentists. This is the first dentist in a long time that didn't hurt me (not even the shots!) and I felt very comfortable within his care. You can tell he knows what he is doing and also that he enjoys taking care of his patients. The staff are very friendly and helpful and make it as easy as possible with your insurance, etc.
Description of Work: Have been several times in the last couple months for exam, teeth cleaning, and replacement crown.

+ -1 moreThe equipment seems up to date. They have multiple dental hygienists and dentists on the premises, so you can check when you need to get in. They offer some Saturday hours as well as later days and earlier days, so there is some flexibility with scheduling. They do kids and adults, which is nice because you don't have to have separate doctors.

+ -1 moreDr. Watanabe was the dentist with whom I made my appointment and he performed the dental work. He used composite fillings between my four upper front teeth. I was very disappointed with the results: The color of the composite fillings did not match my existing tooth color very well, all the fillings in the four upper teeth were sensitive to cold and heat afterwards, and they still are. Before the new fillings, these teeth were not sensitive. I now have to use a prescription tooth paste on them to lessen their sensitivity. Personally, I found Dr. Watanabe to be extremely unprofessional and actually rude in the comments he made to me. I lost confidence in him pretty quickly after he began working on my teeth because he started carrying on a conversation with his dental assistant (a conversation that had nothing to do with me or the work he was performing on my teeth) instead of concentrating on his work on my fillings. This experience was the worst dental experience I have ever had in my life. Of course, I never went back to this dental office, and would never recommend Dr. Watanabe to anyone else.
Description of Work: The reason for my appointment was to have old tooth-colored fillings between my four upper front teeth replaced, as the old fillings were no longer a good match to my existing tooth color.

+ -1 moreThis was my second appointment at Ballas Dental Care. This is the first time I've gone back to the same dentist since I was a child. I have very sensitive teeth and a pretty strong dental phobia, so I generally buckle down and force myself to go to a dentist, then can't make myself do it again for another two to three years. Jean, my hygienist at Ballas Dental Care, was fantastic. She understood my fear and didn't try to talk me out of it. For the cleaning, she gave me a topical anesthetic to swish around my mouth. What a difference! I didn't have to go through the cleaning completely tense, praying they didn't prod one of the super sensitive areas. The numbness had completely worn off by the time the appointment was over. Dr. Watanabe told me they could do some work to help my teeth become less sensitive. He laid out the options, but I never had the feeling that I was being sold anything.
Description of Work: Regular dental cleaning and checkup.

+ -1 moreI called Dr. Haines on Wednesday & he got me in that Friday, even though I was expecting only to have 2 teeth worked on he arranged his schedule to completely fix my problem. He used the newest equipment (a dental vinatu) just to make my shots less painful! He was extremely careful & patient!
Description of Work: 3 crowns & 1 bridge, 2 teeth were completely cracked & one with cavity.

I was not sure I wanted invisalign but my bottom teeth were a mess so once it was explained I agreed to go forward. It has been about 10 months now and I am very happy with how it's working out. I hardly notice them and the movement is very impressive. I only regret I did not get them sooner.
Description of Work: I am getting invisalign. They have been great. There has been no problem with the process and the staff has been excellent.

Description of Work: Final fitting for complete dentures. Service was professional, painless, on time, and expedient. Entire staff was friendly, courteous, and professional. I have never felt this way about a dentist appointment before, but I look forward to going to the dentist and can't wait to go back. Also, everyone on the staff seemed happy and glad to be there to serve their patients. With that kind of positive attitude exhibited by the staff, it was not hard for me to be in a good mood also. Whatever they put in their Kool-Aid, I want some, too.

+ -1 more.As noted above. Plus, the office personnel (at the front desk) did not greet us, at least 2 times in a row. No notice of us, and I did write to the doctor himself about this issue a month ago and there was NO response from him. I observed 2 other patients coming into the office while I was in the waiting room and they did not greet either patient, except to say to the one person "sign in there." I wrote to the dentist and advised him about the personnel's lack of a smile, lack of greeting us. It was a nice note, a friendly note. There was no response. It has been a month since I wrote to him.
Description of Work: My son had red, puffy gums. He had been to this dentist for cleanings with fair regularity. Upon asking the dentist how to handle my son's gums, he said that they needed to be planed (deep cleaning) and would schedule an appointment for same. I told the dentist that I had observed my son flossing (and even did it myself for him) for months. He said it didn't matter how long we'd been doing it, that the plaque was below his gumline was causing the problem. My son's only 17 and he has had braces. I took him to the scheduled procedure. The appointment was scheduled for approximately 3:00 p.m. The office was busy. After a few minutes, my son reappeared and told me that the dentist didn't do anything, and that he had said that his gums seemed slightly better and that we'd wait and see. Well, his gums had been like that for the last 2 years, so I wasn't thinking there would be any improvement with waiting. Although I did like the conservative approach. After waiting a month, we returned for a planned recheck. There had been no improvement in the redness or puffiness. The same scenario played out, with the doctor telling my son that there was slight improvement and to come back in six weeks. Plus, he prescribed an oral antibiotic and a swish antibacterial mouthwash. We went back once again and yep, the scenario played out again, this time they asked us to come back in 6 weeks. I phoned a periodontist office for a second opinion. Well, there was no bacterial infection in my son's gums at all. It was a "common problem" that people who have had braces can have, the periodontist told me. He said that it was from the gums being squished together. My son subsequently had a gingivectomy/gingivoplasy and now he is perfectly fine. There was no bacterial infection present, period. I might add that the dentist himself did not speak to me on any of these occasions after finishing (just looking) with my son's mouth. On the third occasion, I was peeved and shoudl have asked to speak to him, but I just wanted to get out of there. I am so glad that this dentist did NOT perform the planing on my son's mouth, as that was NOT what he needed done.

+ -1 moreOverall I am satisfied, I mostly see the dental hygenist that cleans your teeth more than the doctors. My hygenist is Sandy and she is wonderful, her personality is fun and is always happy to see you and in a very good mood all the time, I can tell that she really enjoys her job.Dr. Haynes is the dentist that checks my x-rays and sees me when Sandy is done with me. He seems like a nice guy and is respectful. The only thing negative about the whole thing is when they give you the estimate of how much something is going to cost when they factor in what your insurance will cover it is not right very often.After they bill your insurance there is always a little bit you wind up owing, when you get the detailed bill about a month later. It seems they charge more than other places and you have to pay the difference (say in my case $10 - $100 more) depending on the service. This is not a deal breaker for me. I dont expect to get things for free, I have been going to them for about ten years. I would recomend them

Description of Work: I hadn't been to a dentist in a few years and I knew I was overdue for a check-up. I have had several bad experiences with different dentist. So I joined Angie's List to find a good dentist who does root canals and sedation. I am so glad I found Dr. Watanabe. I scheduled a visit and he was able to see me within a week. my first visit was a consultation and check-up. he explained to me I need 2 root canals which I figured I did because they were old one that need to be replaced. I also need to fillings. Because I needed all that work done I chose the sedation. he explained everything ahead of time, I was able to work out a payment plan, and was scheduled the following week. I would recommend this option to anyone who has dental phobias. Dr. Watanabe did such a great job.i even went back a second time for a tooth ache I had. Dr. Watanabe seen me right away and talked me through a root canal without sedation. he was very gentle and very caring. I'm so thankful I finally found a dentist that is as caring and thorough as he is. I have my 3rd appt. scheduled. I never thought I would say this but, I'm actually looking forward to going. Thank you, Dr. Watanabe and all of your friendly staff too.

+ 0 moreLike a lot of people I have a lot of anxiety when visiting the dentist and put off going for too may years. A cracked tooth and visible cavities along my gum line finally forced me to go. I choose to use oral sedation for all the work to be done. This was definitely the way to go for someone with anxiety about visiting the dentist. While I still don't enjoy the dentist, I will definitely continue to use Dr. Haines and Ballas Dental Care for all my dental work.
Description of Work: Initially made the appointment due to a chipped tooth and multiple cavities. The staff and Dr Haines were great to work with from making the initial appointment, discussing insurance, and the actual visits to get the work done.

The staff is very accommodating and very friendly. The environment is very nice. They are competent, they do good work and they don't hurt you. I think the availability was good. I got in quickly.
