We got several bids from local contractors to put in energy efficient windows to replace our old wood windows where half of them wouldn't open. We liked the windows that Peter's Home Repair brought over the most and they were also very competetive with their price. They gave us a gauranteed install by date in order to avoid the new lead based paint regulations that would be going into effect.
We put 10% down on the project and waited. Two weeks before the install we had never heard anything from Peter's Home Repair. We began making phone calls to make sure the job would be completed on time. They never gave us an exact time of when it would be completed when we spoke to them. A week before the contracted completion time we reminded them we had them put in the contract to have all the windows installed by the agreed upon date. I think they went back and looked at the contract because the next day they called us to set up the install the following week.
They arrived early in the morning and got right to work. They put all the windows (12) in the same day, but it was a long day for them. They were there until after 6pm. They didn't quite finish setting up the windows and came back the next morning and finished the job.
Unfortunately, the trim around the windows was left in poor condition. I'm not sure who would be to blame for that. I don't know if i should have expected them to touch up any paint they scratched off or chipped off during the window replacements. I eventually went around and repainted the window trims. That is probably the only thing that put me off with the install.
Pros:
We love the windows and they are much more efficient than the windows they replaced.
There has yet to be any leaks from the new windows.
Cons:
It took several phone calls to get them to start the job on time. It seemed like it wasn't until they realized they'd have to pay any additional costs for the job if it wasn't completed on time.
Note:
Several people have told me to avoid Peter's Home Repair, but my experience was not that bad. I thought they did a good job and we got a good product. I have yet to call them to repair a window that doesn't want to stay open so I can't comment on their follow up service.
