I needed a new mattress to replace a 4 year old pillow top king size mattress that my daughter had wet the bed 3-4 times on and I just couldn't get the odor out. She showed me the same mattress to what we had, just a different name - as all mattress retailers get their own version of the same mattress. I paid $410 for this replacement mattress and I was pleased as could be since 1) I was irritated I was replacing a mattress that should have had more life left in it and 2) I paid $990 the first time for the same mattress. So the price was right in my budget. I paid an additional $15 to have them remove my old mattress (well worth it!).
Delivery was arranged for the next day. I got to choose the mattress from the floor that would be delivered to me, and Audrey wrote my name on it so I knew exactly which one I would be getting. I liked that as compared to shopping retail where you get something from a warehouse.
On delivery day, the delivery guys showed up 10 minutes early, and were out of here 2 minutes before the original appointment. They took out my original mattress first, then brought in my new mattress and set it up on the bed for me. This mattress material actually matches my box sets, whereas before the mattress did not! The pillowtop was slightly pilled on side of the mattress, but I'll be putting a thick Costco mattress cover over it, so you can bet that's not going to bother me.
I saw in another review someone received a mattress that had been used, and had an obvious yellow stain on it. I don't see any stains on mine, nor do I believe someone slept on it. Burlington says they get their mattresses as factory seconds. I would guess that factory seconds includes damaged and returned mattress. Don't some retailers allow returns if you're not satisfied? I imagine some returns come through here. I suppose it's what you're comfortable with. Had I read this review before purchasing, I would have had them remove the plastic wrapping over the mattress in the showroom prior to purchase.
They do offer a complete 30 day satisfaction policy by purchasing a water proof mattress cover for about $40-50, but I did not opt for that as my husband saw this more as an add-on like a warranty. After all, how can there be any guarantee the person who buys their waterproof cover will actually use it? I suppose in the other reviewers case that would have helped them out. In any case, I suppose they could now buy their own waterproof mattress cover?
Overall, we are very pleased we found a mattress replacement at more than half the cost of what we paid for the original ($990 from Mattress Firm in 2009, today $410 from Burlington Mattress), it matches our box set and the price was right. Set your expectations accordingly. The mattress business is a bit of a racket as it is, but at least I didn't shell out $1K - $2K on a mattress which seems to be easy to do shopping retail.
"Thank you so much for taking the time to review our company. As a small family owned operation every little bit helps. I am extremely happy to hear you are enjoying your mattress! Thank you for your patronage! Burlington Mattress Co."
