Wife came home from work on a very hot Friday afternoon and found our home uncomfortably warm inside (about 80 degrees). She called me at work and described problem to me. The blower was still working and air coming out of the registers in the house, but it was warm air. She turned system off and then back on; still not cooling. I came home and found the compressor unit not running, and cycled the power off and on; compressor and condenser fan still wouldn't run. Since our system is 15 years old, I expected the worst - that the unit had gone permanently belly-up. Even though I knew they were closed, I called Foreman's at about 5:30pm, because they answer their phone after hours in case of emergency. (660) 665-5200. I figured that we'd have to wait overnight, sleep in a hot house, and they'd be there the next day. Evan Foreman, the owner, answered the phone. I told him what was going on, and he was at my house in about 30 minutes! Amazing quick service! He quickly found that the contacts in the main contactor were bad, not letting power get to the compressor and condenser fan. He said that the starting capacitor could also be bad, so he checked it. It was bad. The condenser coils were also very dirty and they needed to be cleaned too. He didn't have a contactor on his truck and got on his cell phone and reached one of his technicians coming in from another job, who had the contactor and coil cleaner on his truck. Evan left and a few minutes later the technician came and replaced the bad contactor and cleaned the coils thoroughly. I knew the coils were dirty, but there was an incredible amount of gunk that boiled out of the coil fins when he cleaned them. He started up the system and it's run perfectly since then. The total cost of parts and labor was around $220, which I feel is VERY reasonable for an after-hours service call in miserably hot weather to replace two parts, and do a lot of cleaning. He could have charged me more and I'd have gladly paid it. I've used Foreman's several times in the past to work on my furnace, my gas water heater, and my duct work (which was improperly installed by another contractor), and I've been completely happy with all work performed. Foreman's isn't the cheapest heating and air conditioning contractor in this area, but they've always been punctual, their work has always been top quality, and they've always been honest.
