Dry Basement was very hands on with us through the whole process. They even came out a few weeks after the project to make sure everything was right and that we were happy. They are nice people, but even better they really know what they are doing and they do it right. We hope you don't need foundation repair but if you do it can be frightening. We feel Dry Basement saved our home.
He asked if he could call me on Monday the 25th since our last estimate was Friday the 22nd. Called Saturday the 23rd and got offended when I told him we were probably putting the work off but wouldn't be using them. When I gave a few examples of the sales tactics that I was put off by I felt like he tried to argue with me to say that I shouldn't feel that way and that he's only saying what he is told to say- I totally agree on the last part, after reading other reviews and talking to a friend who had DB work on their foundation this is just the sort of tactic they use. He did say that the reason he hadn't been able to quote the specific discount was that it was part of a winter sale that hadn't officially started yet at the time so he didn't know exactly what it would be. That certainly may be true, but was not the way it was put to me at the time.
Of the three estimates we had done, Dry Basement was the only company who's representative did not ask whether we have doors upstairs that don't open and close properly. The other two were interested in checking upstairs to see any drywall cracks we might have, Dry Basement did not inquire about that. Both the others took some foundation measurements, one with an electronic device to check the elevation at various places around the main floor, one used a plumb-bob to measure various points along the foundation wall in the basement. Dry Basement rep measured the length of the walls affected to come up with "28 feet of our No Water System." We got the distinct impression they're more interested in selling the system (and their basement remodeling service- which was talked up even though I had made clear that we wouldn't ever be finishing this basement. "Something to keep in mind for your next house.") than in diagnosing the actual problem. They try to make you feel nervous about other companies by giving you a website where you can look up legal action against other companies and he showed me a sheet printed out from there with all pending legal action against one of their competitors.
"We are very sorry to hear that this member had a negative experience with our company. It is never our intention to mislead any customer when diagnosing a problem, pricing a solution, or offering a discount. It is the priority of our company that every customer receives a thorough inspection and analysis of any foundation or waterproofing problem they may have. Each estimator has been extensively trained by a local Engineering Firm that specializes in residential foundations. This training allows for our estimators to suggest repairs customized to specific repair needs. It is very alarming to hear that this training was not appropriately used in this instance. With that being said, steps have been taken to insure that this will not occur again. From time to time, we offer discounts for various reasons. These discounts are made available for those homeowners who would like to take advantage of them. Any discounts should be made clear to the perspective customer at the time of the free estimate. We would like to offer our apologies to this member for the unpleasant experience she had with our representative. As mentioned above, management will do everything in its power to prevent this from reoccurring which includes but is not limited to retraining the person involved, reviewing company policy, and making sure that our code of ethics is followed at all times. Thank you, Brad Bowers Sales Manager"
"Dry Basement, Inc has completed work at this property on 4 seperate occasions. Once for a former homeowner in 1993 and 3 times for these members. Our last job, in March 2012, was to reinforce a wall that we had repaired in 1993. The warranty on that job expired 17 years earlier and was never transferred to the current owners. Even so, we gave the current owner a credit of the job - which reduced their cost from $8,384 to $6,872. This repair was treated like a new job in that we used an improved repair method which carries a 36 year trasferrable warranty so the homeowners now have warranty protection. It is worth noting that in 2001 we performed a structural repair in a different area of the property and then in 2005 a waterproofing repair was completed with no noted calls or complaints from the homeowners. It was a surprise to see their complaints on Angie's List as we had no idea they were dissatisfied with their significant discount or their 36 year transferrable warranty. Dry Basement, Inc. has a 97% customer satisfaction rating and works diligently to maintain this rating, but can only do so if contacted appropriately so that we may fairly address any issue they may have."
"We would like to thank you so much for your kind words about our company. We take pride in knowing that our customers are happy and satisfied with the service that they have recieved. It is this type of positive "word of mouth" that makes us stand apart from the rest. Should you ever have any questions on need any further assistance please feel free to contact us."
"The severe drought in our area has resulted in a very high volume of homeowners needing our assistance which means long wait times. Dry Basement,Inc. is working diligently to see as many people as possible in a timely manner. In an effort to do this, it is necessary to organize the appointments in such a way that the estimator has the time to properly asses the issue and give an accurate estimate for repair. This can take several hours depending on the nature of the problem. This makes it imperative that we organize our appointments according to area in order to achieve this quality. It is unfortunate that when this was explained, that this member was unhappy. It is understandable the frustration and disappointment that they have, however rescheduling the appointment was unavoidable. It is of our opinion that this member look at the estimates that they have already recieved and choose a company accordingly."
"Thank you for your understanding and patience with the crew who installed your system. Although we take many efforts to avoid "bumps" during the installation process it is construction and sometimes they are simply unavoidable. It is the customers level of patience and flexibility that really makes all the difference to the foreman and crew during those times. Thank you again for your fair rating and kind words, should you need us in the future or have any questions please feel free to contact us."
"It is Dry Basement,Inc's responsibility to give a through inspection and a complete recommendation for repair. Many homeowners choose to address only part of the repair recommended, as in this case. Finances, health and market values are just a few reasons homeowners choose how much to invest in any project. Dry Basement, Inc strives to earn 100% complete satisfaction, by working within budget constraints that will allow repairs to the most needed areas."
"When a consumer purchases a product or service from a company it has always been my understanding that if the consumer is not satisfied with the product or service received, that it is the responsibility of that consumer to inform the company of any concerns. Dry Basement, Inc completed a $12,299 project for this member on April 8th, 2011. Since this date Dry, Basement,Inc has received no phone calls regarding any concerns on the work or that a tool was missing. Had we received such a call, we would have immediately responded and handled the concerns promptly. Dry Basement, Inc has been in buisness for 37 years with a 50% referral rate and over 99% customer satisfaction. It is always a priority to assure that our customers are happy with the product we install and the service we offer. We cannot assure this however, if we are not made aware of customer concerns. To post comments on a blog site a year after the work was done doesn't give the company an opportunity to rectify any customer concerns. It you still have any concerns that you would like to bring to our attention please call the office at 816-741-8500, we would be happy to speak with you."
"In some circumstances we find it necessary to employ the expert opinion of more than one person within our company in order to design the best and most economical solution for a foundation problem. In this member’s case we attempted to set another appointment with our senior foundation consultant of 34 years to verify the findings of our estimator, however our phone calls where not returned."
"As a basement design specialist it is very important that proper measurements and details are collected in order to give an accurate estimate of costs,as this type of work is not a "cookie cutter" design, and each basement is custom designed based on the customers wants. When meeting with this customer I spent the appropriate time needed to get all the infomation necessary to give them an accurate estimate, which included calling upon the expertise of the Operations Manager of Basement Magic, Greg Amann and architect John Sankey at no cost to them. The customers wanted part of the project, which was to build a loft, heavily discounted, we were willing to accomodate their request, provided Basement Magic was contracted to do the basement remodeling project as well. They agreed, but then later contacted me and said that they hired someone else to do the remodeling project, but wanted us to still build the loft at the discounted price. I explained that we were not able to do this and the company they hired to remodel their basement should have enough experience to handle the loft project as well. I don't feel I was ever snappy or upset with them, but apologize if they felt I was."
