Since Metro Wide is a well-known company we went with them for our move
across town. They were punctual and rates were reasonable, but we did
have a few problems with them. They somehow got their truck stuck in our
neighbor's driveway and had to be rescued, and they nicked up some of
our furniture and woodwork during the move. We called ahead to see if
they were comfortable moving our piano along with the furniture, but
when they arrived the movers seemed to have no clue as how to move the
instrument. They also didn't load the truck in such a way that the
weight was distributed well and placement efficient, which made
unloading much more challenging. Overall, I would say we will be looking
for another company next time we move.

The move went well - however at the end of the day their were several items we could not locate - newly purchased coffee pot, newly purchased wastebasket and a small safe (nothing inside). Our daughter questioned the movers at the time but they stated they were some place in the midst of all the other items. The next day our daughter called the company and told them of the situation. Several days later the company contacted her and stated they had dismissed two of the three movers that had been involved in her move. The company reimbursed her for the value of the missing items.
The next week I realized the camera I had taken with me to take pics of our grandsons moving from the old house to the new house was missing. The camera has never been located. I feel this item was also taken at the time of the move.
Recently our daughter went to her jewelry armoire where she keeps pieces of jewelry that she only wears on special occasions - these items were located in a bottom drawer of the armoire - all the items in that drawer were missing. She had not been in that drawer since the move. She attempted to contact MetroWide Movers - they would not return her calls - she filed a police report with the Kansas City Police Dept - finally she connected with MetroWide Movers and they have been very uncooperative - she has asked repeatedly for the name of their bonding company and to date she has not received that information.
What is interesting when the movers were getting ready to move the armoire they made a big production out of wrapping it in cellophane in front of us - as if to say - see how trustworthy we are.
Our daughter has filed a complaint with BBB and I am making this report on Angie's List on her behalf and also that I was involved with the move and present at the time this all took place.

Metro Wide Movers moved all of my furniture that was too heavy or awkward for me to move. 3 Guys showed up 15 min early(a good thing) and started working right away. They didn't damage anything even the heaviest items we own(Dresser, China Hutch, etc). They clocked out for their break that they took on the way to the new house and told me they were doing it so there weren't any questions about it.
They did a tremendous job and even moved some extra heavy stuff that was already at the house down to the basement which required them to take outside and around the house to get it in the basement.
Chris was very responsive to getting me scheduled for the date I wanted and answered every question I had.
Thank You Metro Wide Movers for making my move EASY!

"We do not have a record of ever moving a (Member Name) in July of 2010. The policy we have is to collect cash payment when a credit card will not clear. We do not accept checks because of a history of checks that came back without sufficient funds. Clearly this is not an accurate review of our company being that it was not posted until a full year after we supposedly moved this customer."

I thought Cole and Chris (the guys that answer the phones) were really professional but I didn't feel the same way about the movers. Two movers showed up on time but the whole time they were loading their truck, one of them kept talking to me about how they only work PRN and how he was going to be late on his house payment because they hadn't gotten that much business lately due to the economy. Towards the end he told me that if I had some other items that needed to be moved, they would do it cheaper on the side to make some extra cash as long as the items would fit on the truck and I didn't tell the main office. I did have them move a couple extra items but after we got over to the new place they guy that had been talking about his "money issues" started talking about his washer so I gave him the washer and dryer that was left at my new place thinking he wouldn't charge me for the other items he moved on the side but he still charged me for that too. After I started getting things settled in the house I noticed some black on my living room furniture (not sure if it was from the blankets they used or straps) and the shelves in a cabinet I had in the living room were all out of whack. If I would have thought about it, I would have removed them but to me I feel like since they do this for a living, they would have caught something like that because the shelves could have broken the glass in the door of the cabinet. If you have cheap(er) furniture they are resonably priced but if you have nice furniture, Im not sure if I would reccommend them.

Metro Wide provided packers and movers for me. The packers missed some items that the movers caught. But the biggest issue was that I was supposed to have two trucks for the move and only one showed up. So the move took twice as long as I expected due to the fact that a second trip was required.

I moved the day after Christmas during a snow storm which made moving very difficult to say the least. I have moved many times in my 44 years, but never in the winter. I chose this moving company mainly because they could give me a guaranteed quote and if by chance they finished my move quicker than they predicted, they would only charge me hourly for the time it actually took. I thought that was very good business sense and that was what sealed the deal for me. I had researched Angie's List before, and read many horror stories of people who got a quote before the move, but ended up getting charged more afterwards. Three young men showed up on time and after a quick assessment immediately got moving. They moved very quickly and there was no horsing around. They were very professional and courteous which was also very refreshing. My move took only 2.75 hours even with all the weather variables, as the truck got stuck in the street at my new address. They quoted me 3.5 hours so my move ended up being $298 versus $356. Because the young men had worked so diligently and quickly, I tipped them the money they basically saved me. The only negative feedback I have is the minor damage that was done to one of my bed rails, my broom was left on the truck, and I lost a pair of shorts and a sock. I was reimbursed for the broom, and since my bed rail didn't weigh much, I didn't receive much compensation for it. As I said though, under the circumstances, I thought the move went very well and I don't know if any other company could have done a better job. Next time I move, I will box up my clothes in my dresser so nothing falls out.

Company gave me an estimate to move a one bedroom apt from Overland Park to Gardner over the phone. Co. also sent directions in writing. It was very clear what was expected and owner/operator was very professional over the phone. My experience prior to moving day exceeded my expectations. Moving day did not meet expectations. The movers were actually too early, not all boxes were ready to go and I felt rushed. I was explicit that I wanted a very expensive and very heavy glass top table to be wrapped and treated safely. The movers assured me it "will be wrapped six times" However, the glass top wasnt' wrapped at all!! And only one of the movers moved it off the truck and up a flight of stairs. Although the table was delivered unharmed, I was very surprised it was treated that way. The movers seemed to think I wanted everything done quickly, but I wanted everything done safely. I didn't care about time, I cared about not having my things broken. It seemed to me the movers had many other moves to make that day and they were in a hurry. Yes, I would use this company again, but I will make sure I am watching closely and am more assertive when I don't see something done correctly.

I am going to try and keep this short because I hate to type. I was a little worried that they might have trouble getting the truck in the driveway and up to the house because we had received 6-8 inches of snow in the last couple days. I tried to keep the driveway as clean as possible, but there was still a lot of snow and ice. They arrived on time Tuesday morning, three of them, Jesse, Tim, and I forget the other ones name, they introduced themselves and went to work and had no problems with the snow and ice. I stayed at the old house because we still had a lot of loose stuff that hadn't been boxed up yet, even then, I was surprised at how much they took that wasn't boxed up. My wife went to the new house to clean and start organizing. When they arrived at the new house to unload they had no problems with the snow and ice there either. My wife said they were very polite and worked fast. The job was estimated around $850 and when it was all said and done the bill was $611. The guy at the office, Hud, told me this would happen and it did (come in under estimated cost) because they go with whichever is less, the actual time it took or the estimate and their estimate was about the same or a little less than other companies around here.

I contacted Metro Wide Movers thru their website for an estimate to move just my big furniture from an apartment to my new townhouse. Within 24 hours I had received a estimate questionnaire. Once I completed that I received a written estimate. Since I did this 60 days prior to my move I did not respond right away. Chris Brown from Metro called me several days after the estimate had been sent to see if I had any questions. I told him I did not at the time and was looking at other companies. He mentioned that the final cost would not be higher than the estimate but should know that if the hourly rate was less expensive then they would bill that way. When I was ready to commit to a moving date I called Chris and scheduled the move for a Monday at 8AM. The day before the move (a Sunday) Chris called to confirm the appointment and discussed the arrival time. On Monday I received a call from the driver letting me know that he would be arriving at the scheduled time. When Zach and Alex arrived they were very friendly and got right to work. They took care with my furniture and even provided a wardrobe box to finish a closet that I had not had time to move the clothes from. When we arrived at the townhouse they inquired where each piece of furniture belonged. Before they left they made sure that I didn't want them to move any of the pieces. I should also mention that it was raining (hard sometimes) and they made sure to lay down blankets at the entry way so not to track mud in the house.
