Owner was rude and condescending- told me that I had no business buying said machine from Debi at Jackman's Fabrics. Stated that she was only interested in her commission, which I know to be false as employees do not receive commissions. When asked about my problem he was off putting and completely disinterested, and rude. refused to point me in another direction. Mocked me for buying the machine and nasty about where I would take it for servicing and what I would do while it was under manufacturer warranty, Definitely will not take it there
Description of Work: was looking for help with w newly acquired commercial sewing machine and this shop had been listed first in my online searches and the reviews had been positive

I had a Kenmore vacuum cleaner - about 3 years old - that had a horrible noise and vibration in the "head" (a canister vacuum). The "competition" wanted $99. plus the parts to look at it, so I tried these folks. Granted, I drove about 17 miles to get there, because the choices in the St. Louis area are limited - especially if you read reviews... They were VERY pleasant folks, took the vacuum in to have a look. FIVE minutes later it was repaired - $42 - and is quiet as it has ever been. I wouldn't hesitate to return, and plan on it if the need arises. Thank you Fenton Sew N Vac for treating folks like neighbors. It was a pleasure.....

They were prompt, professional and very skilled. They were honest and explained what I needed done. They went above and beyond by coming to my car to get the vacuum and after the service was done he carried it back to my car. Very nice people work for this company. I am very pleased and will be using them again.

.I took my Dyson vacuum cleaner to Fenton Sew-n-Vac because the On/Off switch would not stay On. They found that it was still under warrantee so it cost me nothing to get it repaired. It is working fine now

The two sewing machine repairs were not "cheap," but I believe you get what you pay for. Everything was done as expected, and finished very quickly. I'm thrilled to have the machines working well again. Fenton Sew-N-Vac exceeded my expectations on my vacuum repair. I've had my Electrolux vacuum for over 20 years (and I love it as much as anyone could love a vacuum). I've had it to more than 4 different repair shops (to include an "authorized Electrolux" shop), each of which "fixed" it, with varying degrees of expense, shoddy work, and minimal success. Fenton Sew-N-Vac actually figured out what was really wrong with the machine, found the parts needed, and I'm THRILLED to have the machine back and functioning better than it has in the last 10 years! I will be back in the future as my machines need service or work again. Thank you Fenton Sew-N-Vac!

I brought my Singer mechanical sewing machine in for a repair estimate. The bobbin basket had slightly dislodged and needed to be adjusted. It is a simple repair, and (as the clerk confirmed) would probably take only a few minutes to fix. That being said, they charge $90 for full detailing before they will even look at the repair, and ask you to approve up to $110 in additional repairs when you drop it off. I was unwilling to pay $200 to get a $150 machine fixed, said thank you, and prepared to leave. At this point, another salesperson became very rude, telling me that the cost of repairs had nothing to do with the cost of the machine, and telling me why I should get it fixed anyway. He treated me like I was stupid, which I did not appreciate. When I said firmly that I was not going to get the work done at his shop, he then tried to pressure me to buy a new machine in his store. I did not appreciate his rude attitude or his pressurized sales approach.
Description of Work: I did not have work done, due to the price as well as the employee's attitude.

Response from Fenton Sew and Vac
I am sorry that Ms. [member name removed] was unhappy with her experience here at Fenton Sew & Vac. I think there was a misunderstanding about our charges. It is true that we charge $89.99 plus parts, if any are needed to service a machine and we warranty that machine for one year. Compare that to other shops warranties that are anywhere from 30 days to 90 days. Most new machines only have a 90 day labor warranty on them, some of the higher end machines might carry a one year warranty on labor. Sometimes things that look simple are not. The way a sewing machine works, internally, is that all of the mechanics are tied together. If you make an adjustment to one mechanism it can and will most likely have an effect on another mechanism and you have to adjust that one as well. There is a sequential order of adjustments laid out in the service manual to properly service a machine. If any one of those adjustments are out of wack, so to say, it will have an adverse effect on the proper overall function of the machine. It's rare that a machine has just one issue. If we don't correct all of the issues and we just fix the issue the customer is having and they get it home and have another issue, they expect us to fix that issue at no charge. We prefer to go thru the machine from one end to the other and make sure that all functions on the machine work properly. We would rather do the repair properly or not do it at all. We also clean and oil the machine. Most machines have not had a proper cleaning in many years if ever. Proper maintenance is the life of any mechanical piece of machinery. To just patch up a machine is not doing a professional job and is not truly being fair to the customer. As far as our charges are concerned, I doubt that at any point in the conversation did we tell her it would be $200,.00 to fix her machine. On a mechanical machine the charge is, as I stated before $89.99 plus parts to go thru the machine completely and address and correct any issues the machine might have. When we get done it will sew like a new machine. We try to get the machines preapproved to $110,00 total in order to cover any parts it might need. If for some reason the tech gets the machine on his bench and finds that there any issues that might take the repair cost over the pre-approved amount, we will call the customer with a free estimate. If the customer chooses not to fix the machine, there is no charge for our estimate. They can pick up their machine and they owe us absolutely nothing for checking it out. In this customers instance, if she had approved the machine to $110,.00 we would not have fixed the machine and charged her more than that without her approval. We do a high volume of repairs and in the interest of expediency we try to get some type of pre approval. Trying to call every customer after the tech has looked at the machine is not very efficient. It's not always easy to get a hold of someone to get the estimate approved. The vast majority of the machines we fix fall well below the $110.00. As far as the cost of repairing a machine exceeding the cost of the machine when it was new, It is also true that our repair prices have very little to do with the original cost or current value of the machine. It has more to do with paying our techs a living wage, providing them with health ins., the overall cost of overhead to operate a business and the time it takes to repair a machine. We try and point that out to customers who will say " I only paid X amount for the machine new" or " I can buy a new one for x amount" We have new machines that start @ $99.00 And sometimes it's a good idea to buy a new one and sometimes it's a good idea to fix their old one because it's a better machine than they can buy for $99.00-$200.00. Unfortunately $99.00 machines are cheap for reason, they are not as good a quality as a machine you might have paid $99.00 for 10 years or more ago. Also cheap machines can actually take longer to fix than better quality machines. We are sorry if Ms. [member name removed] thought we were treating like she was stupid, that was not our intent. We were just trying to educate her as to her options. I think she was mad because she the clerk failed to properly explain our procedures and policies or she failed to understand. I really don't know any reputable repair shop that does not charge between $80.00 to $100.00 to fix a machine today. That's just what it cost today. I hope she found someone to fix her machine for what she wanted to pay and that is still working properly. Ray York Owner

They sell Riccar vacuum cleaners that are Made In America. It comes with bags, which I like, because I like the dirt to go into a bag, and then you can throw it away. It also came with a 15 foot extension hose. All the attachments are pretty much "on board", and it has a really long cord. I have had it for 9 or 10 years. For the first 5 years, they gave me free yearly service. The fact that it is American Made is really cool, but it also does a really good job! I have been really happy with it! You just flip the switch and it changes from floor to carpet. One time, they even had a special on the bags. It's a really good vacuum, and I really like it. They are good people. They also sell cleaning supplies, in the back of the store. They have the vacuums and sewing machines in the front. I traded in my old vacuum, and got a discount on the new one. Because I bought the vacuum from them, I go to the front of the line if I need service.

Great as always - took machine in, they looked at it, gave me date, called before the date and the machine is fixed, works well. I purchased my Babylock sewing machine here about a year ago. Although I can get my warranty work done anywhere, I choose and strongly recommend Fenton Sew-n-Vac. They are strict about making sure you have every removable part to take home with you so nothing can be misplaced. I needed the hook part that threads the needle replaced. They called and explained how long it would be for my part to come in, then called to tell me it was finished before their estimated date. My machine always comes back very clean, the repairs work great and the test cloths where they try it out comes with it so you can see everything is ok. They carry my machine for me and I think it's a excellent family shop that I am very happy to have located near me. Dorthy and Vicki are outstanding in the store where they will answer questions, show you things and explain about sewing machines. Their selection of material is fabulous, it is more expensive than the chain stores but the colors are vibrant and you can't see the ceiling light through the weave of the fabric. The classes are wonderful and I have learned an incredible amount since I started purchasing things here several years ago. I have NEVER had a bad experience, but when the ladies are busy with customers of course I wait to get my questions answered.

I called first thing in the morning, right after the shop opened. The person who answered the telephone was curt, unresponsive to questions, and overall discourteous, as though she was bothered to have had to take my call. She stated that they had a flat rate of $89.95 just to look at the machine. When I started to describe the problem, she cut me off, saying "you'll just have to bring it in." When tried to determine the billing policy, asking if the $89.95 would be absorbed into or offset by the cost of the repair, she impatiently stated "You pay that no matter what." I was so put off by this person answering my call that I immediately decided to look elsewhere to have the repair done.
